I WISH...
I had the option of starting with a clean slate and 100% bonus to my training time when i started. Instead of trying to figure out what's the path i wanna take before i even know anything about any of them i could do my research and find out that... OH SH!T, i should really make myself useful and train the learning skills before i dig into the other skills.
If i had that option and learned about the learning skill trick, i would have had 1.5 to 2 times more skillpoints today.
My opinions belong to me, you can't have them!

i dont know many corps/ alliances that will even consider a new player....just look through the recruitment threads and the required sp to join some corpS !
Thats really about metagaming, the less sp the greater chance its a spy tbh (an 80 mil sp char isn't likely to be "clean" and players are less willing to get one "burned". Even if suddenly new players had 5 or 10 mil sp they wouldn't get into corps for exactly the same reasons as before a) they wont know what they are doing, (probably more so than before as these free skills will keep them alive when they should have died and learned) and b) they might be a spy.
Eve is a minefeild to new players, but skills have nothing to do with that. As it is 1 mil sp or 3 mil sp will not make the difference between dying or not dying on a lvl 1 mission, knowing how to play eve will (its all but impossible for anyone who knows how to turn a rep on to die in a level 1 mission).

With even more chances to frake it up.
Just saying
Sarcasm aside, maybe it is set up, in a passive way, to make sure that people that get through the turoials and the first 2 months better know what they are doing, unless you are the type to play solo. In which case, you were/are likely not to be a long term customer.

Are you kidding me it really easy to start-up, in the first month I was doing L4's, starting my second month I can do them with my eye closed. The only problem I am currently having is finding a good corp, I'm still looking tho.

Honestly, I'd just be happy if CCP scrapped the learning skills and gave everyone the extra 10 attribute points for free (and reassigned all the sp that some of us have spent on learing skills).
Lets face it, while learning skills are optional, they are a requirement unless you enjoy training your skills painfully slowly. Experienced players will always suggest that new players train them up first to save time in the long run. But saving time in the long run is NOT a good way to get a new player to buy a subscription, new players should be able to train with the 100% training speed bonus and the benefit of maxed learning skills from the get go so that they can train the fun stuff straight away.
Having players start with nothing but getting a brief period of faster training time is fantastic. The system before this one was great for anyone who was making an alt, but a new player started out having to choose a bunch of skills that he or she had no idea how to use or even what they were for. This method at least teaches them what they need and why.
For the purposes of suggesting improvements to the new player experience. Perhaps they should reimplement the large amount of SP that new characters start off with, but give it to them during the tutorial, essentially give a few different choices during the various tutorials and allow the character to train certain skills immediately to streamline the learning process. Shoehorn it into the storyline as being plugged into a pod for the first time effecting your short term memory, you knew how to do all of these things already but you had forgotten. This would at least allow players to make educated choices about their character and what they want to do in EVE and end up with a character that they enjoy and skills that they understand (and possibly some suggestions as to where they go from here with their skill training.)

By the time you hit 1.6 mil sp you've quit because you can't do anyhting for the first week or two of your game.
Giving new players many more starting skills was much better than the current system, they even could have let you just spend your starting sps instantly if choice was the problem.
But it wasn't really it was just a new player nerf to stop alt recycling and making ready skilled alts for all sorts of purposes, now you actually ahve to train your alt... |

How is this different? With the SP boost you can make a SPECIALIZED fighter alt in less than a week. EVEN on a trial account. So in effect, it just take a little longer to get the skills you wanted. But at least you now have the training queue, just select what you really want and then go PEW PEW.

If you are the sort of player who concentrates on how fast you can train up for that uberleetchariotofdoom ship and measure your pwnage by the number of skillpoints you have, then EVE really isnt the game for you.
IF you are the sort of player who sees someone in a uberleetchariotofdoom ship and decides that you are "going to have a go" regardless of the piece of crap you are flying and your lack of sp.....welcome to EVE, your future will be bright with the exploding ships of your enemies.
For every 20 newbie whiners who quit EVE "in disgust", we probably get 1 or 2 who have the mindset this game requires. Seems like a good ratio to me.
EVE isnt hard for new guys. EVE is hard for new guys who want to go it alone. There are plenty of corps who accept inexperienced pilots and are more than willing to teach them the ropes.
You dont have to spend your first month purely on learning skills. Interspace them with other skills and the game will get sweeter earlier.
I would sup with the devil and forget to use a long spoon if it led to me spitting on the grave of nationalism.

Never played it...dont know what it's about other than they have some midget guy do the tv advert.
havnt seen many smart answers to the point about the loss to the training bonus when approaching the 1.6 mill threshold.

I dont think its unreasonable to give noobs more and more help/advantages as time goes on. Infact its NECESSARY for survival. Its the only way to balance the never ending new stuff that comes out that the old hacks will first in line for. Well kind of, Id say this game isnt balanced in that regard but buffing noobs is a step.
Its called progress. Making it easier for those that come after you is whats its about because there will be harder challenges ahead, the old unnecessary ones dont need to be in game forever. Progress.
