EVE is realy a complete game since every thing we can imagine can be done here. But i have a question. I would like to know why i can not be repaired by my own maintenance drones? Yeah you will say because you can not target yourself! but couln't be a way to bypass this? I meen a maintenance drone's job is to repaire shield and armor, what ever ships or structures i should ask it to fix, even my own one!!! This game is close to reality in the way to play, You can do almost anything, it's like a micro society. And in real life i can use my screw driver to fix my friend's car or my own car!!
Could this be a idea to fix this none sence in a futur patch? this will just help EVE to be more and more realystic Using things in the way they should be used for.

I would hazard a guess it was to encourage people to be sociable in game rather than sitting there playing with themselves.
If you play this game solo, you lose basically everything that makes it a good game, and besides which you can repair yourself already

Its to stop you setting up a passive Armour tank at no cost or a enhanced shield tank at no cost in fitting or cap.
Its also a result of them reusing the combat drone code. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

^^ truth, but I also see the horribly un-realistic approach in not being able to rep yourself. Truthfully I'm not sure which side I'm on. On one hand it may make horribly over powered tanks, but allowing it would be more realistic and more useful. Part of me also thinks that if you want to sacrifice the firepower of 5x med combat drones (or whatever) for an enhanced tank you should be allowed to make that choice.

Agreed, you should be able to apply them to yourself. -----------------------------------------------------

I get this mental image of a Blaster-thron with 2 NOS fitted, local reppers, plates and supplementary tank by 5 drones.... nasty.
It would go a long way to help out remote rep battleship fleets, though...

Like we need to boost RR gangs.
5 heavy drones are useless versus most frigates. Not all that great vs cruisers either. They can't keep up or do full damage to them. Heavy repair drones don't have this problem. They move twice as fast, have a 10km range, and don't have to worry about sig rad of the target.
If you wanted to repair yourself with drones, they'd probably have to take a heft hit from the nerf bat.

Also keep in mind, that rep drones (as any other drone) can be targeted, shot at and destroyed.

While I agree that for mid to close range you trade fire power for repair ability. But for example you using a long range fitted battleship, your optimal range of engagement would be out side the default drone operational range. Also if you need to warp out you don't have to either loss your drones or wait for them to get back to your ship.
Given that its common for a tank to warp and draw fire in a mission then another ship is used as a damage dealer to kill the rats from a safe distance.
I personally as a drone user would like to use them, as I could keep a full set of shield drones to restore them without having to carry a shield booster freeing up a slot for something else. But I can see how they could be abused. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |
