Pirate Magnets. Sounds quite arbitrary. Why would pirate factions come into your established system that you heavily defend?
Upgrading a system. Up to 100 players in one system. Sounds way too safe and impossible to harrash with small gangs. How about extend the upgrades to few jumps away. Sov upgrades should be good targets for enemy small gangs. say Quantum Flux Generator which could have 2 small turrets as defence could be taken down by 5 man team in 10mins and then have 30-60min stront invulnerability and then kill it again in 2mins. Also a suggestion: Make a wormhole stabilizer as a system upgrade.
Sov with huge cooldown. Promote huge blobs and favor big alliances.
Sov can change in a day. Sov should be something that is quite stable and changing it should be gradual and about persistance. Having stable slowly moving borders would be easier to understand. No need to update those ratting or passing through contracts every day. No need to check the influence map from browser everytime you pass the system. So make sov be about doing those system upgrades, plexes/missions and killing pirates and enemy alliance players and average score out to few jumps away. Basically imagine the word influence in place of sovereignity. If you have played civilization 4 you'd know this would resemble cultural border system.
Holding more systems costs even more. Arbitrary cost which could be solved with the passive sov claim i described above.
Titans at losec. Just a personal feeling supercapitals don't belong there.

No, no and no. We do not need more tedious sov fights (we are getting sick of the ones we have and wan't shorter more meaningful ones), we don't want afk defense system (however small and destructible they are). Low sec is not cyno jammed (like high sec empire is). Anything that goes with cyno can get into low sec.

Sounds like you are afraid of losing your ship, carebear much?
Others would be delighted at the possibility of making 100 carebear ratters cry with 3 man gang of recons and stealth bombers.

yeah sure.. because hit and runs with recons and sbs in a system full of "carebears" are such a risky and manly yarrr yarrr activity.. right :)

Well unless your fighting complete idiots, it is risky. An "npcing" ship could easily be setup to bait/ gank you.
Op, i agree with you that Sov shouldn't be able to change in a day.

This isn't space civilization, this is eve online. it not a turn based game where you can strategized over a single area for hours before allowing those hostile to you to make a move. Eve is meant to be free flowing and forever changing. the old system was stagnant and putrid so the system is being remade, maybe this isn't the best iteration that it could be but if it don't work it will just get changed again.

Agreed. My my main point was just to point out, that ratting in 0.0 and expecting some basic security while having sov, is about as carebearing as hunting those ratters with cloaky ships ;)
On the other issue: 24 hours is way to short for the timer indeed.

I don't think we've been given all the details on the Sov control unit but if the anchoring time is the same as the online time you have 48 hours before the system control is online.
That isn't counting the 12+ hours it would take to make the previous control unit vulnerable and destroy it.
On that basis the actual changeover time for the system would be 60-72 hours minimum
