Well, it looks like I'm heading to Afghan in a few days.
I got word about it a couple of weeks ago. As if 25 months in Iraq over 3 deployments wasn't enough service. ^.^ I haven't logged into EVE in the last week or so as I've been pretty busy getting things in order and spending time with my friends and family to make the most of things.
The good news is that I'm told that this will be a short one, 6 months or less, (Which usually translates into about 9-10 months) and such. The bad news is that things are heating up and since the place is like.. all mountains and valleys, I'll probably be doing a lot of mountain climbing as opposed to doing foot patrols and Bradley duty like we did in Iraq.
Anyway. I appreciate the friends I managed to make in EVE during my short return, and to those who have read my blog and encouraged me.
See you when I get back. My EVE blog |

I've been a combatant. I didn't find the title humorous, nor do I feel the need for 'dark humor'. Afghan isn't anything terrible... especially these days. We've only been occupying for about 9 years now. It's his first deployment and he wants kudos. Been there, done that, so what?
Don't hit an IED on one of your convoys! Don't touch the random child-artifacts! Make sure you wear your flak jacket when going to the chowhall because they will shoot mortars at your base and be packed up and driving away in their crappy pickup-trucks before they even land!
Lots of sand. Lots of heat. Lots of noise. Lots of bordom.
Have fun... and make good money over there. Don't be like every other daft fool and waste it on crap!

To Omara Otawan & Ocerdyn:
I find it pretty deplorable that people like you two basically troll a thread when the OP is risking his life for all our freedom. He's going to spend months and months in hell and you armchair cowboys/girls give him grief.
"Afghan isn't anything terrible... especially these days."
Here are some stats for you:

I dont give him grief for that, I give him grief for his thread title.
Since you mention the casualties in afghanistan, let me ask you, do you think the 2896 moms & dads of those would find that title funny? Would the 1448 wifes / girlfriends find it funny? Would their children that never get to know their dads find it funny?
Dont think so, and I dont see what is so hard to understand about that.

Oh please, humans have been killing each other ever since we stupid monkeys learned how to pickup that yak bone and start hitting each other with it but that hasn't stopped us from making fun of the process.
I for one think The Holy Grail was one of the most brilliant works of humankind for the simple fact it attempted to show everyone just how stupid we were back in the day. Do you think the sons or daughters of people from that era would laugh if shown Python's humor?
I think RL PvP is EXACTLY how to describe the act of eliminating another corporeal being from this ethereal plane of existence before everyone else. So take your sanctimonious attitude and please go kill a defenseless Hulk somewhere.
To OP, good luck mate. Remember to always have the last bullet in 'your' gun and we'll be here virtually killing each other while you're away!

I find it pretty amazing that a soldier going to war and risking his own life makes a light-hearted comment on a MMORG forum and people like you pick up on it. I would actually imagine those mothers & fathers, wives and girlfriends & children have a ****load more respect for the OP than you and your self righteous claptrap.
This guy obviously isn't somebody that is going in straight from the training camp. He's done 3 tours in Iraq and has, I would pretty much imagine, seen thing that you or I would **** and sh*t our boxers/knickers/pants/whatever, but he hasn't quit and he's going back - for that I give him all my thanks and good luck. So please don't pull your PC bullsh*t. Even if you don't agree with the war, you can't put your head in the sand.

Personally, I didn't agree with the war in Iraq, but I DO agree with the war in Afghanistan. As far as defending out freedoms, I absolutely agree. I want to walk around my capital city without fear of suicide bombers, however small that is. I also want the s****that are the Taliban wiped from this earth as they are pure evil. No idea where you're from, but the news reports of the attacks in Pakistan are appalling. I think the Pakistanis quite fancy their freedom to go to the market/work/home without being suicide bombed.
Who's the trailer trash? Does your world on consist of what your president does? Have you travelled outside your county/state/country?

Soviet Union tried to invade Afganistan for 20 years, they failed. Then they had civil war state for 10 years, they failed. Now USA and Nato is trying the same thin, for 8 years, they have FAILED... 40 YEARS OF WAR, STRAIGHT!
Seriously, LET THEM FIGHT THE CIVIL WAR INTO END!!!
USA fought their civil war without intervention, Finland did that too.
They will never be a united nation, until they have done that.
You are just helping multinational corporations to start 'rebuilding' in Afganistan, nothing else.
