This forum thread is the step 1 in hiring a mercenary corporation. The aim of this step is to formulate a good contract and to obtain a short list of candidates. Step 2, hereafter, is to negotiate a mercenary contract with 1 of these parties.
1. Objective of the job I lost a POS in hisec to random aggressive behaviour. I want to reerect this POS and have it defended in case of attack. This means that this is a 'standby' job. I will not make use of the services of the mercenary corp until I am attacked.
2. About me I post with an alt. I represent a research corporation. My main and the location of the POS will only be revealed in case of attack.
3. Tentative contract terms I will pay for (i) the stand-by 'facility' and (ii) results. For the latter, I will pay out damages and a bonus in case the POS is successfully defended. I would like to understand what would be reasonable prices to pay for these services?
4. Logistics arrangement Being a hisec scientist I am not aware of POS warfare. Apart from the merc corp wardeccing the attacking corp, is there anything else they need from me to defend my POS? Reactions welcome!
5. Mutual trust The mercenary corp can trust me to pay in case of attack, as I would not want to (i) incur their wrath by non payment, (ii) I will want to continue to hire them to prevent further attacks.
Can I trust the mercenary corp? The first question is: will they come to my rescue in case of attack? The bonus system should take care of this. The second question is: after a first attack has occurred the mercenary corp knows my POS and could 'stage' an attack, to collect more bonuses. This will lead to an immediate end of our cooperation.
6. Who can fulfill this job Here I need a bit of help. How large should the 'standing army' be of the merc corp? The attack that hit me was staged by a large corporation with many battleships. Which corps would be capable- and interested in this job? Reactions welcome.
** thanks in advance for your input. If you react, just mention the item you are reacting to, e.g., : "6. Who can fulfill this job" You can contact XYX.... **

Contact Alekseyev Karrde in-game to discuss if Noir. may be able to help you. Given the constraints you mention, it may or may not be doable but he's the guy to talk to.
You may also want to check the "Merc Contracts" channel in-game to talk with merc corps other than Noir.

In regards to the Logistics Arrangement, I would advise setting up several hardeners and ECM modules to help in defense.

You may want to at least advise the merc corp of the constellatin/region the POS is located in. Its hard for them to come help you if its on the otherside of Empire.
edit: hey jimer, where's episode 8? ♥

If this is a large pos, it's pretty much safe in high sec. No one aside from large 00 alliance will have the firepower to bring down a fully tanked high sec, large pos.
Here's what you do:
Hardeners: get the resists up high, uniformly as possible. The one damage type that isn't as common is exp, so if you must sacrifice one type, do that one.
Guns: if you have pos gunners, fit them and make sure to concentrate fire on single targets. If you don't have gunners, the guns will be spreading fire and might not kill anything, but will at least force them to use cap and ships to rep. This will slow them down if nothing else, but don't feel the need to fit expensive ammo or guns. Standard ammo and guns will get the desired effect.
Stront: Make sure you have a good amount of Strontium in the pos.
There, I just saved you a merc fee. If your pos is tanked with hards, it's gonna be impossible to take down for 95% of empire entities. The other 5% are groups you should probably just let win.

allow me to introduce myself, i am abrasive soap of the warring clan called 'bannable offense'. forgive me for not adhering to your utilitarian guidelines, but i offer you a more interesting message. if you have ever heard of my people, predisposition towards us may lead you to believe that we are a chaotic group of warmongers or a group of nomadic ruffians that seek only destruction, but nay i say unto you, we live and love as all others do. while some factions may offer you what may seem to be a reliable, albeit mediocre mode of action, we offer you a chance. this chance does not guarantee that we will either help or abandon you, but rather leaves the decision to fate. we at 'bannable offense' utilize a random number generator to decide whether or not your cause should be taken by our clan. rest assured, in the event that fate shows you her gentle, redeeming smile, we will not rest until your enemies are vanquished. the price per opportunity of defense is 100 million isk, and never varies. if you wish to embark upon this option, notify myself or any of the other warlords of the 'bannable offense' clan.

Thx for the advice, will make sure to heed your points. The problem was a "5% alliance" (goons) and I can not afford to lose this POS again

That's not entirely true, my friend. It is possible to take down a high sec POS when you are not a huge 0.0 alliance, you just need a bit of patience (and a helpful support fleet of allies doesn't hurt):
Large Faction Tower in Empire contract kill
Are we allowed to apply for the 5%?

Train Starbase Defence management on 3-4 characters in corp. Buy 8x Domination Large Artillery Batteries, 2x Domination Stasis Web Batteries (97.5% webbing, yes please). Sprinkle the rest of your fittings with warp disruptors/scrams, ecm batterys, hardeners, and medium guns to taste. And just set them passive as 'anchored' while your corp is not under threat. Offline the labs, and online defences as soon as possible when you get the war declaration.
Costs a Billion or two to setup a a near invulnerable death star in highsec. Sit back and relax as you alpha strike pretty much anything. Properly set up (put half the equipment above the POS, the other below), and gunned, the agressors will most likely lose way more than the cost of your labs should they manage to destroy this nightmare of a POS. and yes, with two 97.5% webs you can hit afterburner interceptors with the artillery --- Please resize your signature to the maximum allowed of 400 x 120 pixels with a maximum file size of 24000 bytes.
