So, while browsing the youtube content of Fanfest 2009, I checked out HTFU, and was surprised to find, and maybe I was hearing things wrong, that the f-bomb was used in the song. That's artistic license, so I didn't think too much about it. Then I watched the footage of the keynote.... with my family. Needless to say, I was pretty surprised by the casual use of "****" during the presentation, albeit a very cool presentation. I don't know if the culture has changed at ccp, but I seem to remember their being rules as to the type of language that could be used on the forum. Does that not extend to the productions that become the face of CCP and EVE? I might be alone in this, but I think it sounded very unprofessional to hear expletives of that sort during the keynote of all things. Those are my two cents.

Have you all ever been to a keynote presentation? I mean, look at the first 5-10 minutes of the presentation. One of it's purposes is to show to investors what CCP is all about. In general, profanity is not very professional, unless you're General Patton. : P |

Although I understand what you are saying, this was not a convention to gather potential investors or something similarly as serious. It was a festivle for the, as Blane said above, 18 year old individuals that play EVE that wanted to go to Iceland for a fan based celebration/recognition. So I see why things were more lax then one may have expected.

It's not that it's offensive, but rather that it's unprofessional and unnecessary. I suppose CCP doesn't need to worry about their image though. They have their niche group. |

Being over 18 and drinking does not really give free rein to speaking poorly; but it does describe the general result of those two conditions, unfortunately. |

In addition, you don't get **** drunk on stage either, if it's a professional presentation. This was FanFEST. Not a business meeting

Not everyone are that sensitive to swear words. I understand the thread maker wanting to protect his children, but I don't necessarily understand why.
But they should put explicit language lable on that video.
HTFU might have made the presentation less professional, but it made it more CCP.

That wasn't an act
Also, CCP is a privately held company so I do not think they are worried about rocking the boat

When used by adults, swear-words are a reasonable and useful addition to vocabulary.
However, when used by children, they're a horrible menace that destroys their innocence, ****s their childhood, and sodomizes their dolls.
Swear words are no worse when used by children than by adults. I don't get why people use swearwords and then go ape**** when their children do the same thing.

You use their flagship product and yet choose to base your opinion as to their professionalism on some naughty words rather than their game?

Whoop whoop, I'm the space police!
To the op, you have a valid point, and the rampant use of the f-word can be seen as unprofessional. However, a speaker must make their presentation for their target audience, and I suppose the target audience is for 13+ and up (as the game is). If you were offended you should have turned it off rather than let your family hear the f-bomb. Then watched it later alone or with an audience that could handle the language. CCP has a right to say what they want and they have to be responsible for that. But so does everybody watching. If enough people got up and left or didn't watch it on youtube, maybe CCP won't use course language next year.

So movies that use the F-bomb are just as bad then? They are after all professional actors and should behave like angels?
During a robbery scene in a drama movie about a victim at a bank robbery getting shot
Robber: Uhm... Hands in the air and stuff? Please? Victim: PLEEEASE DON'T SHOOT ME MISTER, i have children. God, please someone think of the children! Robber: Uhm... Please do as i say, mmkay? Victim: But... Madness? Thiiis iiis SPART ... uhm, wrong script. Robber: Ey? Just lie on the floor and don't talk no more. Please? Victim: Excuse me, i think you forgot "SIR"? Robber: Oh, I'm sorry SIR. Could you PLEASE lie on the floor and be quiet, SIR? Victim: But you don't have the right to do this, i have my rights! Robber: Oh yes... The rights... I forgot, have a good day!
Robber leaves the scene.
Now, seriously??? REALLY??? OMFG!?!?!?111?
Please note that each of the clips hosted on that youtube site has an ESRB rating. Also, please note that the Fanfest is hosted by CCP FOR EVE PLAYERS. Finally, out of all the friends i have. Anywhere on this planet. Not a single one gives a **** about the use of the word. Go back to "concerned mothers for children not loved enough at home that they go murder people on the streets blaming it on the F-word association" also known as CMFCNLEAHTTGMPOTSBIOTF-WORD
Have a nice day!

Wait... those are just terms to mean, "****" "****" "****" "Damn it". Your philosophy of language is broken.

I don't see a problem with a fun video for a fun video game at a fun fan fest containing a few fun swear words (swear words are fun unless you are a humorless robot). If you want to watch a boring, useless politically correct video then go watch the economy video from fanfest. Zzzzz tritianium, zzz macro miners, zzzzzzz.
