Personally I find it refreshing, to see that something called FANFEST isn't 90% careful stepping and PR licking.

Forum posters are generally idiots - this thread alone shows that the percentage is at least 80%.
Language is quite an interesting subject. What some consider profane or vulgar is acceptable to others. Luckily there is no central authority on the matter so all is well. If a person is offended then they can just leave just like those who threaten to quit eve with the exception of you probably don't want their stuff since it might be some half eaten bran muffin or a bag of dried prunes.
CCP has its own culture and is allowed to do as it sees fit. Contrary to popular belief by you worker bee peons who contribute nothing to society, your masters in the corporate boardroom swear all the time. In fact, quite a bit of it happens out in public, such as on the golf course, even during business hours! You however might be restricted from swearing due to some policy or rule set up by the company.
But understand that the policy is there for your own protection. For without that rule there would be nothing to stop you from reverting back to your native tongue in which every second or third word would make the late Mr. Carlin proud. Then your masters would have no other choice but to fling you back out into society without a master to dictate what you are to do for 8 hours or so a day. With that amount of freedom the likelihood of you resorting to some criminal activity is extremely high and eventually the authorities will put you where you should have been in the first place, caged up like an animal prevented from harming society.
For the rest of us civilized productive members of society, we naturally know when to use such language so policies designed to control the simpletons need not apply to us. Peons, being indoctrinated by the guise of professionalism are indeed often offended when they hear this type of language, but since they are just peons, their opinions don't matter anyhow.
And before the idiots start spewing about you can't this and that - yes you can swear in a courtroom, just ask permission from the judge or advise prior to stating; parliaments are a different story, but it still happens and religious representatives are actually quite comical in their use of expletives. Then again, religion is just another control mechanism for the masses (has been doing a pretty good job but lately has been slipping) of peons who would without a doubt leave this planet to the roaches.

In other words it is a stand in for when you want to express something with impact or meaning, but can't think of the words.
I agree, it's a fill-in word for people who have not developed a familiarity with all the words and idioms in their existing vocabulary which would serve to convey the message they wish to impart.
Actually curse words can be very useful when one wishes to be emphatic, as their meaning inspires the use of a specific part of the brain which deals with the evocation of emotion, therefore they impart something which other words cannot.
This. Swear words are just as much a part of vocabulary as anything else. Eve players swear, Eve devs swear, there were no children present to have their fragile little minds warped - whats the problem? Only possible problem i see is the op not wondering why exactly there was an age limit in the first place before showing his kids. For all he knew it could have ended with a naked Oveur running naked across the stage with a beer keg under one arm and an exotic dancer under the other.

Swear words are not bad in themselves, it is the manner in which they are used that makes for offensive language.
Using them to drive a point home or reinforce an adjective is perfectly acceptable provided you don't overdo it, they act as a contrast colour.
Unfortunately the linguistic prowess of the younger generations is sadly lacking so they tend to exchange every other word with swear words out of ignorance making their speech neither attractive nor acceptable.
Besides, FF is and was a private party as you can't get in off the street and the site where CCP posted them (YouTube) is plastered with cautions and warnings, so if your foot hurts you probably shouldn't have shot it.

The rating on the video should have given you a hint that it might be slightly naughty.
As for StevieSG, I think she looks just fine.
That aside, there are some women that can raise a mans pulse with nothing more than a lusty quip and a momentary glance, whilst wearing a packing crate.

Did you watch the play about the Gallente guy who had a second ***** grafted on and then proceeded to anally **** a politician's son?
And ``****'' in the keynote is your biggest concern?

Personally I took note of the ESRB label at the beginning of the videos warning of violence. I was severely disappointed that none of the videos featured violence at all. Dev Quiz Show came tantalizing close but never quite got there

I have to say, I'm entertained by how many people actually responded to this. Fanfest being what it is (18+), will you tell me why all of the fanfest videos on youtube say "T for fictional violence" at the beginning. I'm merely suggesting that if they post public accessible content to the internet, CCP should be careful so that the rating matches the actual content (i.e. M for language).

Only in prudish countries like the US. In the much saner countries of Europe, that stuff wouldn't even get it up to a 11+ rating.

Y'all be posting in a troll thread.
On the off chance it's not. So true.
"F-bonbs" and the like are not removed from foreign TV where I live (Northern Europe), so they turn up in prime-time movies, documentaries, interviews. Everyone knows what the words mean. I don't mean people are "tolerant" either - we *know* that hearing and understanding the words for normal activities and things does no harm.
Something to reflect on: Our kids have fewer unwanted pregnancies and lower STD incidence than US kids. But they have a lot more sex. Which system would *you* prefer to live in?

No one outside the US gives a crap. The entire world has moved on from 19th century 'morals and values' because you know, we're not in the 19th century anymore. A lot of people in the US however think that it's allright to push those outdated things onto everyone else, 'because they're right and everyone else is wrong'.
And now someone comes to complain about adults being adults, having some fun. Fanfest isn't a business venture, it's fanfest. The people attending fanfest are gamers, people who play eve. They are also adults who want to have some fun.
But of course, the FCC has to be warned about it whenever people want to have some fun. Because the FCC is a global organization, as everyone knows.

Originally by: llhloiug So, while browsing the youtube content of Fanfest 2009, I checked out HTFU, and was surprised to find, and maybe I was hearing things wrong, that the f-bomb was used in the song. That's artistic license, so I didn't think too much about it. Then I watched the footage of the keynote.... with my family. Needless to say, I was pretty surprised by the casual use of "****" during the presentation, albeit a very cool presentation. I don't know if the culture has changed at ccp, but I seem to remember their being rules as to the type of language that could be used on the forum. Does that not extend to the productions that become the face of CCP and EVE? I might be alone in this, but I think it sounded very unprofessional to hear expletives of that sort during the keynote of all things. Those are my two cents.
GROW UP.

I don't think that CCP cares about being thought "unprofessional" by saying a four letter word that society deems to be offensive. Nor should they, they are addressing their fanbase at an event that has an 18+ age limit.
The world as a whole needs to just grow up, realise that it's just a word and stop complaining about everything for the sake of it. It can't be offensive if it wasn't meant in an offensive way.
P.S. The fanfest was sponsored by Smirnoff Vodka. Keep that in mind when you compare CCP to other companies.

They are a game company, they don't need to act professional at what is essentially a party for a bunch of gamers. In fact they score more points by relating to their audience.
Basically, you're being ridiculous.
