So since I'm a ****** when it comes to laundry (have managed to unwilling shrink my ex-gf's clothes a number of times without knowing how).
So now I do have this 100% polyester crap, and I REALLY want to shrink it! But polyester being plastic... I'm not too sure it is possible.
The washing-tag on the thing says wash in cold water, dry in tumbler set to LOW. So what will happen if I go monkey and wash it in 90C? It just melts to a blob and hello washer repairman?
Possible to shrink it or not? If yes, what's the best approach? I got three of these hoodies to test on haha so we have three tries to get at least one right (and if all three fails, wtf I'll just order one of the correct size).

Edited by: Billy Sastard on 13/10/2009 17:57:09 I do believe that the only way to 'shrink' it would be to catch the stuff on fire and 'shrink' it down to a pile of ash and cinders . I found this technical paper and it looks like polyester doesn't even melt until well over 200 degrees C. <-------------------------------------------------> "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." -Albert Einstein |

i suppose you cant cut ...try using a dryer and increase temperature step by step ....the only problem is that can be deformed |

# Step 1
Prepare all polyester garments for washing by checking any and all clothing pockets for loose change, wrappers and other unwanted items. Forgetting to remove these items from pockets can affect the wash cycle. # Step 2
Turn the clothing that you wish to shrink inside out. This helps clothing color stay vibrant when washing. # Step 3
Place your inside out clothing items inside your washing machine. Set the wash cycle to the highest water temperature possible. The hotter the water, the best chance you have to shrink polyester. Let the clothes run through the entire hot wash cycle. Using laundry detergent is optional. # Step 4
After your clothes have run through the wash cycle, place them in your clothes dryer. Use the highest heat setting possible on your dryer. Allow time for your clothes to run the entire dry cycle. # Step 5
Repeat the entire wash-and-dry cycle (steps 3 and 4) to attain better shrinkage. You may even need to run the items through a third wash-dry cycle for those hard-to-shrink polyester clothes.

It would probably fit me fairly well, as I am roughly the size of the average small family. but I would probably frame it and hang it on the wall with a plaque reading CHRIBBAS TOO BIG HOODIE.
Nevermind that shipping it across the atlantic and the whole damn USA to get it to me on the west coast would probably cost 3x what the hoodie is worth. Altho I do need a new one as my old one is getting, well, rather old <-------------------------------------------------> "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." -Albert Einstein |
