[Semi-SRS Post]Some say I love veld more than Chribba, others say I'm the greatest miner in eve, all I know is I have the cure to macro mining.
TETRIS!!
I know what you're all thinking: "wtf, what drugs has he been on?" but hear me out.
Imagine if instead of your mining lasers automagically filling your hold, you had to stack the pieces of ore in your hold as efficiently as possible. Imagine that the pieces of ore were conveniently shaped like the tetris blocks of old. Macro miners would end up with a single column of ore and once it reached the top their hold was full. Players on the other hand would pack their holds so full of ore that macro miners would be so slow they wouldn't even bother. AFK mining would also be pretty pointless.
This might actually make mining dare I say, fun?
So what do you think? Good? Bad? DIAF?[/Semi-SRS Post]

Okay for your loan miners with time to kill, but seeing that we on a good mining operation will fill an orca in about five minutes, this is a bad idea in my opinion.

Yes, let's make mining take more focus than lvl4 grinding. That sounds like a great idea. I'd love to play tetris for **** money for hours on end. --- Owl |

IMHO Tetris is a nice idea, Bejeweled would do the same.
On the other hand, destroying the basic mining is now will be pretty destructive to the game but introducing "minigames" to increase your yield or maybe allowing with these minigames refining higher end ores out of the plain one type roids could be something.
Even though CCP said they are looking at "new ways to improve the mining profession" and also with the promise to introduce "system wide mining belts" we wont likely see something this within the next two years as their scrum teams are like more working on Incarana, getting Dominion right and likely T3 frigates.
My propose for mining would be having roids not show what type of mineral they have, and if you scan them you can get their percentage mix of what is in there.
Now you either go the "old way" and just put your mining laser with one type mining crystals on that, so you only get the minerals with the higher percentage out of it, but if you go for the "new mining lasers including the mini game (tetris, bejeweled, what ever) you can extract all types at rates that are determined by your skill in the mini game.
It would keep the old mining profession allowing a relaxed game play and slightly reducing the mineral yield/input into the market but on the other side it would also encourage the new game play allowing a wider and likely more profitable yield (with an different ore mix and maybe getting some of those low-sec/0.0 ores in small quantities as well).

Absolutely brilliantly fun and ******ed idea at the same time :D I would never want to see this implemented, but the idea reeks of awesomeness nontheless :D ---- The Demigodess with a Conscience - An EVE IC Blog |

No.
Let me rephrase that:
NOOOOOOOOOO!
I would really hate to see anything remotely like this implemented. There would be even less incentive for people to head out into lowsec/0.0 if this came to be. If this happened, people would just spend more time in the belts in highsec earning small bits of high end minerals through a mini game to produce or sell. Sure it would take longer, but would you rather have a couple extra weeks mining (making Isk off the low end minerals), or be forced to deal with the dangers of lowsec/0.0? --------------- He who stumbles around in the dark with a stick is blind. A simply awesome idea! Alternatively, just let miners occasionally pick up some asteroid wastes: stuff that takes up cargospace but is so completely useless that it wouldn't even have an option to be put on the market. An active miner will know to jettison right away so he can continue mining. An AFK miner will find his cargoholds full, and has to jettison the wastes that take about 10-25% in total, before restarting his cycle to maximize the contents of his cargohold. Different types of ore could even generate different percentages of waste, so Veldspar could be around 25%, while for example Arkonor could have a wastepercentage of around 12%.
Oh, and add some skill that takes a year worth of training in various fields before it can even be injected to reduce the amount of wastes mined, though it should never actually hit 0%.

Fanfest Talk on Youtube. I think it was the Keynote. They like where T3 cruisers are now and are reviewing the work on T3 frigates and the options it might give. Nothing clear but they seemed to like that idea themself so guessing it might be higher on the radar than redoing their whole "systems system" to include system wide asteroids. As they know what they need to do for T3 frigates opposed to "we have no clue yet what to do to improve the mining profession".

Basically I would say just the same like that. The point is balancing it toward the "complete overhauled system of mining". We have low sec ore in high sec in rare exploration sites already. Not saying that we need low sec ore/0.0 ore in high sec, just saying if we're overhauling the complete system do it completely, so touch everything and see how we can improve it, you got to requestion everything you had, again, to make the old arguments are still valid (or gotten outdated already).
You got to make it worthwhile to interact with the game to reward your attention to the game rather than just going AFK/alt tabbing. Maybe remove the "higher version (dense/rich/...)" from the game and hand this out. It should be all be looked at and reviewed inlight of a possible change. ----- Garr Anders

This might be fun for the first 10 minutes but then it gets dull pretty quickly. Also, ore is more like sand, stones and maybe some rocks, you pour it into a ore hopper basically.
Not to mention a macro miner will find a way past this change. Simply checking for a color there and a color here etc etc and they can make macro tetris. So in essence, this would be a boost to macro mining because now even less people would be bothered with mining.
My opinions belong to me, you can't have them!
