I'm currently trying to get spec'd as a Taranis/Ishkur pilot and I'm wondering what drone skills are going to be most important for me. Also, I want to get out there ASAP so what order should I be training them in? Thanks in advance.

Edited by: Horchan on 15/10/2009 18:18:27 Since you'll mainly be fielding light drones on those two boats:
Drones 5 Drone Interfacing 4 (preferably 5) Scout Drone Operation 5 (for T2 drones) Combat Drone Operation 4 (preferably 5) "Racial" Drone Specialization 4 (for T2 drones, you can skip Amarr) Drone Durability 4 Drone Navigation 4 Electronic Warfare Drone Interfacing 4 (for extra range and the option of ECM drones)
Edit: You NEED T2 drones. It's not an option.
You may want to train Repair Drone Operation and carry a few on your Ishkur to help repair allies after combat, especially if they're not fitting a local rep. You probably won't need Drone Sharpshooting, as that mainly applies to sentry drones. Amarr drones are situational at best, so many people skip them. The rest of the drone skills don't really apply to lights in a combat setting. ---

This with the following clarification:
- For PvP prioritize Minmatar spec; Warriors and Valks are probably the best for the task
- For PvE prioritize Gallente spec; Hobs and Hammers are almost always better against rats
- Ignore Caldari spec for now; once you learn to know when you want it it will be worth it
- Amarr spec is for drone groupies mostly although it has a few limited uses here and there. Like getting certs. So ok, no, it really doesn't.
And for god's sake, don't ignore DI to five. It's a huge bonus. Even if it looks like it takes awhile (it doesn't in the scheme of things) it's worth it.

For pvp, you want Drone Navigation 5. It does matter!

It can matter. Warrior IIs on an Ishkur should do the trick without it. But if you move up to a Vexor/Ishtar, you will indeed want it for Valk IIs.
For PvE -- which usually means Hammers/Ogres -- it's a very nice thing to have. But don't put it at a priority above DI 5; it's a much more important skill to max.

I can attest to this. I just finished DI V after 23 days and I automatically seen a HUGE difference in how much damage they deal now. I would train it ASAP if I were you. Especially if your going gallente ships! Yea Amarr drones suck the most imo. They are only good when you know for a fact your rat or enemey will have a giant EM hole you can exploit.

The reason to ignore Amar Racial is b/c Amar drones get the lowest damage multiplier... Gallente (Thermal hobgob, hammerhead, ogre) drones get a 1.6x damage multiplier whereas Amar drones (EM acolyte, infiltrator, praetor) get only a 1.15 multiplier. That means that thermal drones do 40% more base damage than EM drones. Even if your enemy is weak to EM, except in rare circumstances, you will still do more damage with Gallente Thermal drones than with Amar EM drones.
Minmatar drones (Explosive) also have a relativly low damage multipler (1.3x) but are still often used because they are the fastest and have the best tracking.
Gallente are used for having the highest damage.
Caldari are almost as high as the gallente, so are useful when the tank is vulnerable to Kinetic.
Amar just don't have any real advantage...other than being EM with by far the lowest damage.
