Edited by: Denuo Secus on 16/10/2009 17:22:29 Hi there,
I play EVE since 2006. Since then it was impossible for me to choose one race (ship flying wise) and stay with it. Every race has interesting or just cool aspects for me.
I don't say this is a bad thing. But I'm just curious what your reasons for picking 'your' race are. It could be a tactical or technical reason. But I'm also interested to hear the more subtle reasons...
Thanks

I'm very much the same, I love all races and each ship in the game has some purpose, almost all of which are of interest to me.
I started with caldari because they are known as the best PvE race and I figured that it would help me to earn a bit of money easier/faster. Then I switched over to gallente because I already had decent hybrid gun skills so the transition wasn't so difficult. I'm currently training minmatar because I like the ships and they seem to be the most versatile (and I wanted a rifter :D) and I will then move on to amarr last for no other reason than that I will have trained everything else.
Luckily I like to fly small/medium ships, it will take me forever to train all four races battleships properly.

I chose Gallente for a couple of reasons, one I liked the look of their ships and the other was that sounded like my kind of people, independent minded arsey swines. Pretty much like me ------------------------------------------------ You either need a punch up the throat or a good shag.

Here's why I fly each race:
Gallente - Up-close and personal. Get close and you will unleash a lot of pain, and you have fairly good tank. It's kinda suicide-mode. Caldari - Simple tank, doesn't have to care about range nor speed. Warp to the victim and just fire. Very simple. Minmatar - I go minmatar when I want to have my playing-skills involved in it, rather than mindless F1 - F8 pressing. They suit a lot of different roles because of the balance between mid- and low-slots. They are fast too, so if you get in trouble, you can get out of you know what you are doing. They are very rewarding to fly. Amarr - They have huge tanks. They do very reasonable DPS, without having to reload. You can change your range on the fly very easily. A bit like Caldari, but you have to manage Capacitor AND range.
Hope that helps.

I like the Minmatar back story, so I made one of those. I'll fly whatever I like at the moment, they're all good at something.
My first character, which I still have, is Gallente, and I like their story as well. He still does a fair amount of Industrial work.
In either case, it makes little difference who you are or what you fly, especially since March 2009. Be what you like, fly what you like.

Well I went Caldari for purely background reasons :P
Among the races, it's the one that I like the most in terms of philosophy and history.
They're clearly Japanese, and that's another reason to pick them :P

My main flies Gallente and Minmatar because i prefer their ships, but also because the other two races have screwed up ideologies from my perspective.

I had fully intended to be strictly Amarr. I love their ships and their culture.
As it turns out, I ended up moving away from lasers and getting into drones. I just can't do the whole turret thing. I equate drones to the "caster" class of fantasy MMO's and it fits my style of play. Lasers are too much like melee and I hate melee.
So, I ended up cross-training into Gallente so that after the Arbitrator, I could use the Myrmidon and Dominix since Amarr doesn't really have any good BC/BS drone ships. ------------------------------

For me it was a tossup between Minmatar and Caldari, though in hindsight I would have gone Amarr (January 13, 2006, pre-boost) because I love thick armour plating. For me the deciding factor was that the Caldari society was brutally capitalist, and they look like they bathe regularly. Incidentally I cross-trained early to Gallente as it seemed like a good idea at the time. --- Burukt Vri'ra Locus Industries We Are Losers |

That and as a real life conservative I like to be able to be the free loving space hippie Gallentian.

first i did caldari because the character introduction sounded cool. scrapped that char in few weeks and started speedy minmatar which i think suited my usual playstyle better. then after a year sadly i went after the FOTM and crostrained amarr. Now i train more minny because they are cool but i'm allready looking at gallente

Well, I chose Caldari for roleplaying reasons alone. I could not identify with being a religious zealot, a former downtroddden slave of said religious zealots, or french.
Simple choice, ultimately.

Edited by: Tamsin Rhylis on 16/10/2009 20:22:25 I went with the Minmatar race because I liked the story behind them a little more than the others.
Ships wise; I chose Gallente & Minmatar for simple reasons... Gallente for logistic reasons as I do a fair bit of heavy transporting each month, Minmatar for everything else as it's my race and I thought it would be nice to fly my own people's ships.

for some reason i always linked the Caldari with the USA
They're like pure capitalists the Caldari so i found that the US is also heavily based on capitalism and they couldn't be European since the Gallente represent those

I pictured myself as grizzled former Roman Legionaire trying to get along in a dying empire.
Veterans have seen and done many things that set them apart from most, and a busy peaceful life where satisfaction is gained from doing a task well is all the reward they seek.
Relying on one's wit and guile to navigate the sometimes treacherous regions of Eve is a challenge, needing and relying on others removes some of that sense of satisfaction.
As an Amarrian, the hostility directed at my culture by other races creates a silent boundary that ensures my solitude will be respected. My place is among the stars, in the cold depths of space amid the confines of my ship.

Started off as caldari (which are the nice, realistic, capitalistic guys, they sounded the best when I started), I somehow haven't been able to fly decent ships since. Some ships because I couldn't be fooled to train skills for, but mostly because they're butt ugly. The rest doesn't get used because they're **** for pvp.
Now cross-training (well it's more getting my main race) to Minmatar. The scimitar just makes me hard, rapiers are quite cool, the HACs aren't bad at all and they're just so damn fast. :D I just like fast ships. The command ships and their T1 versions are just sexy, the Nidhoggur just
I think the Caldari ships look more duct-taped than Minmatar ships. Minmatar ships are ugly ducklings, but at least they aren't a misformed swan.

Gallente cause the girl on the original gallente bg was freaking hot. i mean a bikini and a big gun. oh and the guy with the flight goggles and the mask was cool too.
But I like gallente mostly for pve and then upclose and personal pvp.
Caldari for mission running.
minmatar for shooting cars at people
and amarr cause lasers go pew pew pew pew pew. --------------------------

Caldari on all accounts. Will fly just about anything but Caldari because I am former military and any excuse to pod a Frenchy is a good excuse. You're either with us or against us so the duct tape empire gets included by default.

Well... each acct has a diff char race. 1. Amarr - Lasers Really the only reason. (That and Khanid were sweet for the first P^2 promo) 2. Caldari - Was a mistake, but I didn't feel like recreating a Gallente for faster Megathron training, and I like the character portrait better than the femanine looking Male Gallentes. (Doesn't matter anyways, because he flies mostly industrial ships + Barges anyway.)

I flew as a Caldari rail pilot, because I liked the looks of the Merlin and Cormorant. Then I got to the Moa and decided the Vexor was pretty awesome. From there, I went on to fly everything Gallente, double back and pick up Caldari, and now I'm flying Amarr. That was all with Liang, of course. My alts are Caldari/Amarr and Minmatar.
Favorite race? Minmatar, because I identify with their independent anti-slavery militant attitude.

I took Gallente since they seemed to be the only true democratic nation, and because smugglers are cool (Han Solo, anyone?)
How much I regretted that when I saw all their ships resembled big fishes with thrusters. I went Minmatar for the dirty, rusty metal and duct tape looks, I stayed with it for the speed. I really love my Rifter. -----

I chose Amarr because lasers look great when fired and they make a nice sound. Hybrids and Projectiles are just boring to look at. Missiles are ok, but Caldari (my first created char was one) have almost no good looking ships.
So, all about the looks. :) Only later I learned that laz0rs are now considered uber. The irony: I have sound disabled now and (gun) effects turned off in most battles.

2004 player here; I'm mostly Amarr with Gallente not far behind and Caldari now a distant 3rd.
I was solely Caldari for a few months at first, then switched to Amarr because lasers are awesome. Later I cross-trained into Gallente as well, which was easy since I already had some hybrid skills from my Caldari training days, and had the tanking skills that come with flying Amarr. Plus it's kinda cool to be right in someone's face while you're smashing it.

Well this is a new topic so gotta reply, lets see, i fly amarr, why is that, well i fell in love with the prophecy and by default the absolution, i loved the curse prior to the nos nerf, being as old as i am i've cross trained for most stuffs and i also enjoy flying some of the more versatile gallente drone boats, i have a lot of SP invested in minmatar but don't use a lot of thier stuff really and i "can" fly some caldari stuff but i hate missiles >.<
