well the Hulk is a mining barge, and the orca is a mining support ship.
Hulk pros: It mines a lot. Orca pros: Has lots of space, can move hulks, can give bonuses.

When you are mining there are two things you need to do:
1) Mine the ore 2) Haul the ore
Miners have a limited capacity to haul ore, even the Hulk which really has a lot of capacity for a miner is limited in how much ore it can carry. You can use a Hulk to mine and return to your base with the ore in it's hold and a lot of people do that - but - every second you're Hulk is playing hauler - it isn't mining. Thus, you have this very expensive ship, with fairly expensive equipment playing a role a cheap industrial could play.
Thus, a more sophisticated method of mining - is team mining.
Most team mining is done with miners and industrials. However, for large scale mining operations that can afford it - the Orca is a very good mining support ship. It can hold a lot of ore. It has a large hanger where such as mining crystals could be stored, it can even carry mining vessels. In addition to that it can use support modules that make mining more effective.
So, you are comparing apples and oranges. Two ships that have completely different roles in mining operations.

Fill it up and make a new can and so on. After 1.15 hours, dock and get your hauler and retrieve the ore from the jetcans (after 1.5 hours the jetcan will disappear). This will expose you to ore theft/can flipping but in my experience it is very rare in non-crowded systems. This is the most effective way to mine solo. You can also use secure containers to prevent ore theft, but they can hold much less and must be anchored or they can still be stolen.

Another point people missed with the Orca is that it can run three Gang links, which can increase you mining laser range and decrease the cycle time, so less moving about and more ore per hour.

You're comparing the dump-truck with the harvester. Neither is better. You can use one or the other separately, with limited effectiveness. When you combine the two, you get a much more efficient operation.
Using a hulk separately is like using a harvester by itself - efficient at picking up the grain, but very inefficient at moving it back to the silo.
Using an Orca is like having a dump truck and loading it by hand - great when you finally fill it up and move it to the silo, but you're going to be a long time filling it.
Now if you get 2 or 3 harvesters you fill a dump truck up fast. Then the harvesters continue collecting more while the truck goes to the silo and back. You've now got a fast effecient operation.

17.199 m¦ cargospace on a Hulk helps a lot.

It works best if you team up with 2 or 3 more players. From my experience two accounts with two Hulks are more efficient then 1 Hulk and 1 Orca.
