I've been trying to figure out how to stop the onyxs from can tipping. Is there any one caldari ship that could break an Onyx's tank? Thanks for any thoughts.

If it's set up for pure tank, very likely no. -------------------------------------------------

This. If he's setup for single-person-tank (i.e. shield regen rather than pure buffer) it'll be hard / impossible for one ship to break his tank- you're looking at anywhere from 1k-2k DPS tanked, depending on damage type / his skills / fittings, etc. Regardless- if you get close, he'll take off :(

I recall duelling a friendly Broadsword in my Megathron...
I finally broke his tank after several cycles of my medium neut because it turned his hardeners off. Definetly put some hardeners on your ship and, after a while, you should be able to do break his tank...

You'll need three painters, then. And a web. And a point. Giving you a one-medslot tank. It would work, though. But so would a normal Raven with a couple of med neuts and CN torps.

Edited by: Darcon Kylote on 19/10/2009 12:25:49 Blaster eagle with a medium neut. You should be able to fit neutrons if you don't fit an MWD. Even electrons would do it though, with the neut. You'll want a cap injector too.
He won't see it coming either, everyone knows eagles are for sniping with rails.
If he's pure passive fit, then a well fit HAM drake should break him, but just barely. -- Terminal Impact is recruiting PVPers for fun ops in NPC 0.0 space. Visit our website or join ingame channel "the tict pub". |

You're not going to break an onyx tank with an eagle. Its resists are too good against kinetic/thermal.

You think if i use a rook to jam the onyx and holdem, sick the drones on him... then use my newb alt in a harbringer, think we could takem? the rook should be able to perma jam him, the harbringer could be fitted for neutralizers to make sure he never has any cap. Think it would work?

or you could find him, scan his ship and EFT his fit and see what it's capable of, instead of asking a hypothetical question that relies 100% on what said mystery ship has fitted. -------------------------------------------------

Rook FTW! If its just buffer fit, you would wear its tank down eventually, especially if you have HAMs fit (EM or explosive missiles). Caldari specific jammers would ensure that it is jammed most of the time. However, if its a passive fit with purgers/shield power relays, nearly any ship is going to struggle to take it out solo.

This will melt any Onyx even if it fits for full tank which it most likely wont if it expects to catch anything. Swap the TP for a Disruptor if you don't have a tackler.

Rage torps have a 650 explosion radius vs an onyx's (with 4 extenders) 257 sig radius.
You'll need navy torps, T2 drones and at least one painter.

Drake or Raven with precision missiles is best.
Biggest likely weakness is EM, so anything that allows you to do EM damage within caldari (EM missiles) and acolyte/infiltrator/praetor/curator II's for EM drone damage.
It's likely buffed at least a lil' bit by the player, but the innate tank of kin/thermal is rather high on an onyx, so shoot something else. Do a couple test shots on 'em if possible if it won't get you killed of each missile damage type, find out which one hit hardest, and reload that quickly.

If he's can tipping in a belt just point him. We did this a year or so ago with a few T1 fitted frigs and just waited for him to exhaust his ammo. Then didn't let him go until someone with a high DPS ship nearby logged in. Was just over an hour
If you want ransom him or something, that could work too.

Those drones are TERRIBLE and should probably never be used. They have roughly half the base damage of the thermal counterparts, so unless the disparity in shield resonance is more than that much, you are better off with ogres.
Curators are fine because sentries are balanced somewhat more sensibly.

For thermal drones, yes. But not for explosive drones.
