Hi everyone,
The title says it all... I'm a carebear. I mine, I mission run and I rat but I'd really like to go into 0.0 and pvp (and not die in 30 secs).
Can anyone offer any advice? What ship(s) are viable (I'm Amarr)? What set up should i be looking at? Are there any addons I should get?
Cheers for the advice

Buy an interceptor and lots of cruisers and a couple of BCs and join the Amarr Militia or any FW corps. You'll learn the ABCs, and the Do's and Don'ts of PvP and still be a carebear whenever you want.

I wouldn't suggest 0.0 right away unless you're willing to risk your pod (or willing to set up Jump Clones). The above post summed it up ok - Arbitrators, Crusaders, Punisher, Harbinger. All good ships for their respective ship classes. You need to find a group of people you enjoy PvP'ing with to learn the ropes, it will make things all the more fun.
(Joining RvB is not a bad idea btw) _________________________

Why don't you join the Python Academy and learn to pvp from seasoned professionals.
0.0 is entirely overrated. Play in low sec with the big boys.

Janos, just join the caldari militia, some fleets goes in null sec. Now the state pro and some state pro corp has a bad reputation in null sec so you'll get lots of attention in it lol.
Seriously, join the fw to learn pvp. its a great learning tool.

Edited by: Belkadan on 20/10/2009 16:42:55 first off, welcoe to pvp.
All the above is generally true. FW, RvB, getting into pvp corps etc, is the best way to learn pvp.
If your plan is to jump into the deep end to learn how to swim, nullsec will do that for you. I don't advize it, but tbh, it'll give u a lot of PvP if you're in the right place.
Best advice without repeating too much of previous posts is start small. When you start pvp you're going to get ****ed up something serious. So use clones with no implants and T1 ships. Frigs to start, then cruisers if you want, and eventually BC's. All these T1 ship types allow for a minimum of isk loss as you get your ass handed to you. Sounds harsh, it is. 90% of nullsec warfare is blob warfare. The best place to find solo 1v1 fights, or 1v"managable" fights is on the borders between nullsec and hi-sec. There are usually a lot of folks buzzing around in inties and solo cruisers.
After you've gotten the hang of Pvp and have a feel for the the flavour of fighting you like (up-close, kiting, ewar, hit and run, etc), you can get into some T2 ships (if you want, I know plenty of long-time pvp'ers that dont touch'em).
As amarr, your best choices for pvp were already listed above (punisher, omen, harbi, etc).
And don't freak out that you lose so much (if you do lose) because everyone was there, just take a lesson from every fight you lose, and try to avoid making the same mistake in the future. pvp is 30% ship fitting and 70% experience. You're in cheap T1 fits so jump right in, fight as much as possible. It's the best way to get experience.
Tip tho, if you're in nullsec you have to worry about 2 things tat never occur in hi/low sec: 1) Bombs, 2) Bubbles.
There'll be plenty of SB pilots that want to throw bombs at you, so never perma run your MWD unless you need to. For bubbles, if you're in anything bigger than a frigate, put an MWD on it, cause you're gunna have to burn outa bubbles like a mofo.
sry for the wall of text, but my last tid-bit of advice is search the eve forums, there's a lot of people just like you ***** getting into pvp, there's a wealth of advice in all those topics as well.

like he said.
To avoid bombs: put it on your overivew and if you see one, GTFO NOW...dont think about it...do like Nike, just do it,.
to avoid bubbles: break the alignment entry so this means just warp to a planet then to the gate that usualy does the trick.
p.s: those 2 solutions dont always work but its a good startup guide to survive

0.0 is a bad place to start, you'll get more even fights in lowsec and of course the FW, RvB etc. RvB is probably the better starting point because its intended to be that, mostly T1 stuff and they apparently put effort into arranging even fights.
FW has lots of noobs but you'll run into heavier blobs and some very capable pilots flying HACs/T3/recons/etc.
For 0.0 it depends on the region of course, but to get a solo fight/kill you kinda need to know your stuff beforehand. Going in as a noob will just get you ganked, podded, and having to do a lot of travel.

Well it is mostly man love but blob warfare is hardly a good way start or really enjoy pvp.

Starting out in 0.0 you might die a few times, but you will learn eventually. My friends and I started in 0.0 with a couple of cheap cruiser fittings. The first couple times we got killed right at the gate. Eventually we started to know the area and understand the types of corps/alliances that hung out in it. Made a few friends and now visit regularly with little trouble.
I really think the best way to learn is to die a few times, explore, talk to people in local, and not get mad at those who tear you to shreds.
