I really think that ccp should give us the choice that when we press the log out button that we get something like what guild wars has, which is a option box allowing you to select yes, character select,no for options, it would be really useful if you need to make a quick character change on your account when you are in a tight situation, besides.. I hate having to re-input my information.

It takes you 5 seconds (if your semi-fast) to type your password. It could take anywhere from 1hour to 1 week for CCP Dev to install this. Don't think its as simple as one may think.

This would be a sweet idea.
An angry sibling/wife/husband could attempt to biomass all of your characters on your account this way! --- The Gate: Lol, try targeting me in a fleet fight. The Station: No U. |

put it onto the long term wishlist - the drawing board i think the main reason tho is to prevent logoffski. But then again just have a standby copy of eve running at password screen.

Except during Singularity Gank all level 5 skills weekend and you forgot to claim capitals/pirate ships after waiting 2 hours to log in. Log out to just character screen would be nice for that

It used to be in. That's the reason it was taken out of the game

You do realise that there's a "Redeem Items" button on the Esc menu ingame, right? ;) ----

Well if it saved 5 secs 30,000 times per day over the next two years that is about 30,000 person-hours... The main use I see is trading alts. The number of people who need to log on an alt in Jita or Hek (or both) is fairly high. So some could be doing it more than one switch more than once a day; 30 jumps or one alt to check Jita prices
It is not the time to type the password: I only have 4 gig and two processors and am eight time zones away from the server, but for me the Reauthentication after I enter my password takes considerably longer than 5 seconds and considerably longer than typing the password. My experience is that logging off results in a crash about once every twenty or thirty times, which adds to the time.
Originally by: HeliosGal put it onto the long term wishlist - the drawing board i think the main reason tho is to prevent logoffski. But then again just have a standby copy of eve running at password screen.
As stated, adding this feature has no effect on logoffski; a quit or ALT-F4 or poweroff is still possible with or without this feature. Besides, someone who wanted that sort of combat advantage currently keeps a second copy of EVE running with the id and password already typed. So just one click will log the existing pilot off and allow quick access to the alt. That might still be quicker even if this feature were implemented. It is not quite fair to argue that the existing system is trivially short and that removing the trivially short time would enable a significant combat advantage to people who have an alt near their current, even though they can get that benefit now with other ways.
Also when EVE login is capacity limited, a character switch causes you to get back at the end of the line/queue. And there is no way I know of to see if capacity is limited, so you could think you are doing a quick switch and it take several minutes to get back on.
Obviating the reauthentication would have some minor improvement on performance.
If CCP ever implements a "security dongle" system to protect against keyloggers then relgging on will be considerably more of a hassle.

There is some slight security improvement in reauthentication. However with keyloggers and without the TPA then you can't safely play EVE on public machines anyway or even friends machines unless you really trust their security procedures. And irate wives/girlfriends could just visit a malware sight where the infection could cost you your characters and more. Malicious people with unsupervised access to your machine are going to be problem regardless of whether you are logged into EVE. And if they are that irate, you are risking more than your pilot: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_and_Lorena_Bobbitt
This is not the biggest issue in the world. With finite programming resources, choices must be made. But it's a "quality of life" issue that I deal with a few times every day. And it is a bit more annoying since the solution is obvious.

0/ signed. But because of skills. "Your other character blogo is currently training skills" Instead of saying "shall I stop it for you". Possibly resolved in other ways i know, but still.
As well as it being handy for trading.
Also, Logofski is bloody easy right now, Ctrl Q and tick the "Dont ask" check box. How is having "Switch" character more effective than that?
