There have been a few post on sniper ships and each has had its own ideas some better than others to that end I was thinking about a possible design and came up with the following
I will explain this idea in sections which are New skills New ships New weapon/ modules How to use
New skills for the ships Extreme range acquisition skill û allows for the piloting of Sniper class BS each level increases accuracy by 10% Racial LRTH skill û allows use of the Lrth, each level reduces weapon cycle time by 5% (explained what this is below)
Now for the ships
Rockslide û hull class maelstrom
Eviction û hull class Abaddon
Nution û hull class Rokh
Far edge û hull class Hyperion
Each of these vessels resembles the hull class ship save a single large gun port on the front except the nution which has missile pods in its back. Also all ships save the nution must be facing their intended targets within a 10 degree scope. For stats decrease hp by 50% as these ships like snipers in the field are not meant for close range combat ( on grid) and will ne to be protected . They have 4 high slots with enough power grid to support 3 decent Small class guns. and like other such ship give a bonus of reducing the CPU grid need of any Lrth equipped to it by 99% ( in essence Lrth are only used on these ships alown). These ships have a specially designed targeting system that allows them to target ships at the AU range. This comes at a cost that having just learned the basic skills to fly this ship you will take 10 full minutes to acquire a target lock. With the only advantage being that you keep your lock even if the target warps to another location. More will be explained below
Note: if it didnt make sence above these ships have paper thin armor.
The Lrth
The long range tactical Hammer is the primary offensive platform for the sniper class ships each is unique in its function but they all share the ability to strike from ultra long range
Rockslide Lrth
The rock slides Lrth in called the grand cannon. In essence a gigantic single tube barrel that fires a slug of similar size, in damage the Grand cannon is top gun (literally) as the slug will tear through hulls of BS sized ships with ease, generally crippling it in the process.
Eviction Lrth
The evictions Lrth is a called the Prismatic cannon. In essence a large multi spectrum cannon of unparallel power. Though it sits on the bottom of the damage spectrum for all lrth its high accuracy and almost instant hitting time makes up for this.
Nution Lrth The Nutions Lrth is a class of missiles known as ôpulsar casterö which if you hadnÆt guessed launches pulsar missiles. These missiles have extreme range by missiles standards but still must travel the space in-between it and the target. Hence a shot fired may not reach its target for half a minute or more. The pulsar missile is above the evictions prism Lrth in damage but below the far edges Gauss cannon. Lastly as the missile has its own guidance systems the nution does not need to face its target and may actually move while firing.
Far edge Lrth
The far edges Lrth is a weapon known as a Particle cannon. The same principals used in there hybrid turrets and used to accelerate a plasma mass up to insane speeds and then direct them to a target ship. At the speeds that the plasma is sent at it hits with the force of an atomic bomb causing a detonation upon a successful hit causing damage to nearby ships in the process , the partial cannon is 2nd in damage dealing potential
Spotting laser û a Simplified version of the target painter that has a green beam and a 100K range has no real effect other than to assist a sniper ship
Lock down probe û a probe designed to track enemy vessels in real time and relay the data back in real time in a format usable by the Sniper pilot

I don't see the need. There's no precedent for off-grid interaction beyond chat and scanning, and this shiptype would be a little silly. Crusades: Security Status |

good god, where did you pull those names from?

your posts continue to underwhelm. a pro-tip: presentation is everything. your idea might be gold, but if you wrap it in dog ****, noone is going to pick it up because it is hard to see the nugget in the middle for all the crap you have smeared over the outside.

also just noticed that the post i made has been cut off so heres the rest of it
Stabilizer array control- a device that engages the ships stabilizer systems allowing it to fire its Lrth, on all none missile based ships this results in the ships maximum speed being reduced by 100% while its alignment time is also reduced to allow for proper aim (ship can turn 4 times faster than normal) for the missile brand sniper it fortifies the ships inertia array allowing the ship to move while firing but at the cost of being unable to warp
How to use
For this I will give two example one with the pilot by himself the other with an allied
Example 1 û lone pilot The Sniper has heard that a wanted criminal is hiding out in system X and has such flow to that system being smart he finds a ôSafe spotö. He then activates the Stabilizer array control of his far edge (Hyperion). He then uses normal probes to scan the system and finds the target around a moon. He recalls his probes and launches his lock down probes. once in position the target ship appears in the scanner screen ( like a WH would) and he proceeds to lock it , having trained a long time in this skill it takes only 4 minutes to gain full lock . He then presses the Lrth activation icon and a blast charges and fires showing a line with a dot moving along it much like the probes gives when they move. Once the dot reaches the target the player gets a message saying that the shot hit or missed. A successful hit has rendered the targets ship a wreak but he was only flying a frig.
Example 2 û flying with ally You and your buddy are hunting when you come across a pos that shouldnÆt be in your space. You grab your sniper ship and your buddy grabs a stealth craft armed with a spotting laser. You deploy your sniper 5 AU away from the pos and your buddy under cloak warps to the pos and lights up a target. You in the mean time have already activated your stabilizer and brought up the scanning interface. A quick click and you find that there is a spotted target lit up on the system map screen, since you have also trained long and hard on this it would take you normally 4 minutes to lock this target but because itÆs lit up like a Christmas tree it takes you only 2. After lock you proceed to send a hail of gun fire taking out various parts of said pos

And how does the owner of said POS defend it from your stealth ninjutsu lightning bolts? Can he warp to your position when you fire? Does he have to probe you out? How many shots can you fire before you have to warp to a new spot? Does your little laser-pointing buddy have to uncloak to paint targets for you? IS THERE ANY WEAKNESS IN THIS DOOM CANNON?
If you're going to steamroll people and trash their stuff for fun, there's a minimum requirement: You have to bring a blob. If you can't rake together an absurd number of buddies to storm out there and break things with you, then you don't get to break things. Crusades: Security Status |

weekness that would make this work: takes x4 longer to target pos and after targit is locked the target will know where the sniper is and can relay that info to fleet buddys so the sniper would have to move after every shot in order not to lose his shiny new t2 ship

You're not the first one to propose an "artillery ship" concept with the Tier 3 BS's, if anything, the Tier 3 BS's were all designed with that very purpose in mind(based off of hull shape, they all look like they were meant to house a massive gun down the centerline...). Anyway, if you ask me, these sniper ships should be anti-capital/anti-pos. Being able to turn a weapon like this against anything the size of a bs or smaller is just a horrible idea.

How about just give the Megathron, Tempest, Apoc, and .... well, seems Caldari are screwed in this area, but they do enjoy cruise missiles that reach out to about 200km with skills which far surpasses turrets but trade instant damage for being able to reach so damn far.
Give Role Bonus: Optimal Range Tracking Scripts double optimal range when used in T2 turrets and loaded with T2 long range ammo.
no new skills, ships, weapons, modules, nor scripts, just a Role Bonus that makes them really reach out and fondle at 200+ km
108km optimal for 1400mm T2 artillery with Tremor L loaded jumps to 216+44 max range. pretty nice, eh?
k, probably not good as CCP hates snipers and put in scripting to close the field of combat.

I think that you don't know what you're talking about.
Sure, that example is absolutely outrageous, but if we're talking in terms of what's -possible-, saying that turrets have trouble out to 200k is just ludicrous. You know that sniping BS don't need a boost when they can already reach optimal ranges beyond the targeting range cap.

you can already fit for sniping. really no need for a different ship class. be creative with the current ships and modules.

Sniping is still borked isn't it? Any range advantage for opening fire is just nullified within less than a minute if a cov ops probe it down.
Sitting at some position with a sniping ship for more than 60 seconds seem so risky and it works so heavily against other game mechanics like ship positioning.

easy to understand is fine, but you also have to market them to people.
rockslide is a ******ed name for a minmatar ship, because all you ahve to do si feed 5 random shipnames into google to see that minmatar ships are either named after acts of violence (stabber, rupture) bladed weapons (scythe, scimitar) or names of figures and events from norse mythology (ragnarok, hel, huginn).
by using the name "rockslide" you a) make everyone who likes minmatar ships rage b) make it look like you dont know what the **** you are talking about.
seriously, its not hard to see a commonality between ship names, and if you just go and ****ing ignore that system, iot makes our post look scruffy.
