Yes, give each race a little difference in the hud they use. Other games have been able to do it, are you saying the folks at eve arent able to do it?

There isn't really a lot of HUD in EVE... You've got a circle, and some chat windows.

Having 4-5 "skins" to choose from would be a nice touch.
Can you imagine being forced to stare at the Minnie HUD?
Or the Caldari HUD?

[RP]You pilot a Caldari-Manufactured Jovian vessel, through which you control your ship. Thus, everyone is flying the same ship, so has the same HUD.[/RP]
Because the options in the Escape Menu aren't enough?

I really wouldn't call the ability to change the color scheme "options" nor would I really consider them..."racial".
I will concede you that there are plenty of "choices" in the color scheme dept. but....in the end it's just colors..not a "new hud".

As long as all the UI options stayed available and you weren't forced to take any particular HUD I think this is a great idea.
I mean, seriously, if no one is forced into changing anything but just given more options for personalization, I don't see why anyone would possibly have a problem with this.

Development time that could better be spent on something more worthwhile? Seems like a decent reason to oppose it to me.
[Hijack]No, if they're going to work on graphics they really ought to work on restoring the old Helios.[/Hijack]

Edited by: Facepalm on 23/10/2009 20:35:36 Yes! I've proposed this before in the Features/Ideas forum. It's so anticlimactic hopping into a shiny new ship that you've trained weeks for, and having the same boring HUD you've had since day 1. If at least given the option to choose among HUDs, I don't see how it would be a big problem for balancing or implementation.
It'd be cool to have a bunch to choose from too. Maybe one for ship class, pirate faction, npc corp, etc. Maybe even make it some kind of "glamor" upgrade that players can grind and purchase with faction points or something.
This bring up an even bigger topic. The EVE UI is so outdated it really needs a complete overhaul; in terms of code efficiency/bugginess and aesthetics.

why would you have to be a jerk in this thread?
i think itd be cool, but there are lots of otehr things id rather have them dedicateresources to.
lol at the clowns here, theyd think itd be cool too, well if they didnt think boosting their self esteem via being a butt dart was cooler
If it weren't for downtime, I wouldn't make stupid posts. |

Who was a jerk?

Then don't advocate things that don't need the time/energy to actually improve the game. Not being a jerk; it just seems like simple logic.

Thank you for my butt-dart esteem booster. It totally worked.
But seriously, what would this add, how would it add it (especially given that lots of people just disable such "features" anyhow), and what's the opportunity cost?
My quick math says "not worth it", but if you someone could answer those questions effectively I'd be open to a change like that and actually pushing for it.

Honestly I don't see it taking very many man-hours to get done. We're not talking about a major overhaul or any changes to the game engine. Nothing would need to be tested for balancing like changes to ship/module stats do. Hell they already even have all the color and texture schemes for each faction, this is something a small team could probably whip up over a weekend.
IMO eve already is a fantastic looking mmo but an even nicer more individual presentation might get CCP more trials being turned over into full subscriptions. If someone could convince ccp that this is true I think we would see personalized HUD's very soon

It's already been done. I can't find the original images, but the Minmatar ****pit looked like a 747 ****pit (buttons and controls for drones, guns, missiles, MWD/AB, web, shield boost, armor boost, etc.) whereas the Caldari ****pit was a "Simon Says" game with 4 buttons, one each for "go", "stop", "launch missiles" and "shield boost."
