you were running a defrag while playing? I hope not. You're not supposed to do anything while defragging.
That's happened to me before too, but not while defragging; it just, happened. ------------------------------

That usually happens when your video card starts to overheat.

Ewww... Yeah this is your video card's GPU boggling up information. It is a mystery to me what is actually going on and why it is doing that, but when mine did it, I ended up sending my 8800GTS in for a replacement.
Eve is the only game that has caused these sorts of problems that I have ever seen. However when it got bad in Eve, it started to happen in other games.
Make sure your cooling is functioning properly. Good luck and I hope you don't see any more of that.

Yup. If you start seeing small artifacts or lines appearing on your screen you did some permanent damage.

You might want to check out defraggers (like Diskeeper) that are DESIGNED to eun concurrently with system use - that old rule about not running anything else whule you defrag isn't universal anymore.

That's texture corruption - either your video card is overheating OR something is corrupting the memory "hole" that the video card uses to transfer data.
Far more likely it's the card overheating - in which case a new video catrd isn't too far in your future.
Set your interval in EvE options to 1, and if the problem persists, look into a new card. ESPECIALLY if you start seeing green lines in random places on your display during bootup - each line is a memory area that's been burnt out.

Actually had that happen to a card that had another card right next to it. It started to "cook" the card. I smelled this burning electronics smell, graphics did exactly what was depicted above then whole system locked up. Pulled out the card next to the video card and let it sit for an hour, afterwards it worked fine, my MAudio Delta card is kinda fried though (the card next to my video card)...burned my fingers taking it out LOL.

I had something similar happen in another game when trying to use an aging machine. going to guess that was more of a memory issue though, as opposed to an overheating issue.

And there I was expecting something silly like a screenshot with the downtime messagebox in full view...
hmm yes, EvE is hard on gfx cards. I think it fried 4 cards for me, the latest one was a ati 1950XT (both the one I bought and the one I got as a replacement under warranty after 3 months).
I just hope the card on my newest rig will not fry as it will be harder to replace (laptop).

Learn to use VSync? There's no point in running at 200+ FPS. Lock it at refresh rate and save the card some work.
