Well with both those threads asking for the rudest cities it occurred to me I'd rather know which were the friendliest on either continent. So what's the friendliest city in North America? What's the friendliest in Europe? -Jin Nib Trading on behalf of Opera Noir since: 2009.03.02 03:53:00

Leavenworth, WA. USA. its a small town off in the mountains that is built in the style of an old Bavarian town. its also a MAJOR source of apples, producing several hundred tons each year.
INCREDIBLY nice people, the whole town is set as a sort of tourist attraction, so the people living there know what they got into.
ive been there several times, and i cant think of a nicer place.
want a sig? thats great! post it in response to my posts!

It took me a while but Im figuring Savannah Georgia was the friendliest city I've encountered over here, been a while since I've been down there though. Norfolk Virginia was also pretty cool.
I havn't really traveled Europe that much, but in my small experience I didn't encounter any at all. Which is why I asked the question because it would be nice to know should I ever plan a real trip over there. -Jin Nib Trading on behalf of Opera Noir since: 2009.03.02 03:53:00

Leavenworth is a great Eastern washington town, tucked up close to the mountains. Great people there!
Im biased now cause I moved here, but Juneau is also full of very freindly folks! Gorgeous area.
Closest ive come to visiting a European city, would be Toronto xD

Its a tarp
I'd have to say Bend, OR. They're all nice except for the two cabbies from Brooklyn.

In Europe I would say that Sunderland - UK is a very friendly place, especially if you are a foreigner, they love foreign people. ------

Hehe, after you've gone to Sunderland i'd recommend a trip to Oldham and then Bradford. They love foreign people too i hear.

Berlin, Germany is both the nicest and rudest place around. It's a strange and wonderful place, where you can find anything and everything, except a good old fashioned American breakfast.

Throw a dart anywhere at a map of Newfoundland and you have the friendliest people anywhere.
Cornerbrook was especially awesome. St. John's wasn't half bad. Gander is the place made famous by harbouring a lot of planes that were re-routed the day of 9/11 (and allowed random people to stay in their homes, fed and watered them, etc). --

I'd say most of Italy is pretty friendly. Unlike France, they appreciate when you try to speak Italian, even if it's atrocious. They're extremely polite and welcoming, even to Americans like me. As a bonus, their regular police don't care what you do so long as you don't hit someone, or a local landmark/national monument (hint - don't drive fast in Florence; bonus hint - the real David is safely housed within a reinforced building, so...).
As for the US, I can't think of any that really stand out, but Solvang, CA probably comes closest.

Friendly city?
Just some random factors... time of day, the people you meet, the weather, are all relative factors that will play a role for how friendly you will be treated. There are no friendly cities, just people who happen to be in good moods at that point in time when they meet you.
But it doesnt have anything to do with the cities...show me a city where everybody is friendly and I would say its something in their water... :)

Edited by: goodby4u on 25/10/2009 19:31:42 How nice the average person is is usually inversely proportional to the population density so I would say one of the most least packed cities.
Though there are more variables then that.

I am biased, but Richmond, Virginia tends to be a pretty nice place. People will stop and let you turn into traffic, people wave to each other in places, etc etc. It caters to history and the arts heavily which always come with a high level of socialization, but I guess some people could get an air of superiority if you hit certain areas at certain times. The underground is probably on of the tightest nit and most diverse of the mid sized US cities in my experiance.

Wait, what, what?
Do not get me wrong. Kitty Hawk is one of my favorite places to go, especially if the waves are kicking, but you have got to be kidding me right? The last time I was down there the locals ruined the CLUTCH show at the PITT and I was asked if I was a Neo-Natsi becuase I shave my head /facepalm.
The people of the Outer Banks, although they rely on tourists for money, hate just about everyone that shows up down there during the summer. They are the pinnacle of the anti Southern Hospitality centers, in my opinion. The most polite people in the Outer Banks during the summer are the Europeans that come over to the States for work.
