Eve online is the only game in recent history (or ever) that has seen its number of active subscriptions increase (even if just a little) every year since its inception.
EVE IS NOW 9 YEARS OLD. Released in 2003 (Not counting Alpha models and closed BETA)
There may have been eras when there were more accounts logged in at one time or another. But as far as active paid subscriptions, EVE keeps growing.
Most people will tell you EVE is dying. Apparently it was still born and is still somehow dying...

I think there are only a few things that will eventually kill off EVE. A massive meteor, one that can destroy all life on this planet. A pandemic that wipes out the worlds population. Nuclear holocaust. A huge gamma ray burst. Alien Invasion. Zombies.
If these do not happen. I think it will be around for quite some time. |

That depends on CCP and what they continue to allow. There has been a decrease lately but hopefully things will get changed for the better if CCP decides to be more sensitive to all players, not just one particular set of players.
However, CCP has a tough job pleasing everyone and they anger different groups with each new patch and expansion. One group hates the griefing, one group likes it, and back and forth. Balance is the issue but one thing that really concerned me was when a Dev said they love imbalance and encourage it. Sadly, with that form of thought Eve is doomed to get so small in subs they may fail.
But tbh and fair, CCP needs to take a hit in the wallet. Then they will make the changes needed to keep the game alive. EVE has the potential to last a long time because of how awesome it is. But the idealogy of focusing on imbalance will doom Eve. One encouraging thing is that CCP are pretty aggressive once they start losing a lot of money and they will hopefully make the necessary changes.
Just my humble opinion. |

I get what you are saying, but this has been the problem since day 1 and hasnt stopped anything yet.
I see 100000000 threads whining and bitching about every expansion and every announcement CCP makes.

Humble is one way to look at it. The fact that you wrote nearly 3 paragraphs of serious thought to a very obvious and poorly constructed troll post, brings to mind serveral other words. |

This is one of the a couple MMO's that has actually grown since it's launch. Today, while other MMO's are in decline, EVE is growing. If you ever remember how this game was when it first launched, compared to what it is today - not only in game play, but in graphics as well - not many games can say they have managed to not only get better as they age - but EVE looks better as well.
This game has aged very nicely. If CCP added some WiS to the game...I bet the subscription rate would double in a year. That is the one thing this game is lacking and the only thing holding it back from being more mainstream - lack of interaction between play characters avatars. |

Seeing as your character has been around since February of this year and has been in several Corporations already, I'm thinking that perhaps you need to ask yourself how much longer you actually want to play Eve, not how long Eve is going to be around for. You're coming across a tad disingenuous asking how much longer people think Eve will be around for.
In answer to your question though, as long as forever takes, as far as I am concerned.

Bittervets LMFAO you should be called bitter Idiots because what are you going to do with all those plexes when CCP decides to shut the servers down? Do you think CCP is going to give you a cash refund for those plexes LOL your an idiot if you think so. Maybe you could roll around in them like scrouge Mcduck oh wait there pixels thats right. I cant wait to see the tears from all the players with thousands of dollars in plexes cry when the game goes offline and they cant sell all that in-game crap they own nothing will be better and the tears will be sweeter than pure cane sugar. |

ahhhhh lets insult a post that scares me lol....... yet another sub with thousands in plexes who is worried they might lose alot of real money in a video game.
Seriously I would hope CCP would give its players ample enough time to use up all that plex before it did shut the servers down but who are we kidding the bottom line is profit and who benefits the most by not informing its clients that they are shutting its doors....thats right CCP.
Players with large ammounts of plexes always makes me think they are RMT traders because why would anyone have that many if for any other reason to make money. If CCP wanted too they could shut the game down tomorow and still make a nice profit off unused plexes who cares about the blowback all they have to do is change company name and disappear in the MMO history books for pulling off the ultimate scam.
On the other hand an insider at CCP would leak to his friends who own a large ammount of plexes that CCP is shutting its doors and said friends could sell those plexes on the RMT market (dont have to worry about a ban if they are shutting the doors) and cash in on a useless product in the coming days.
I like to laugh at in-game items for sale by the develpers it reminds of other games like WOW before you know it CCP will be selling crystal ponies with 10% hybrrid firing rates. |

You do understand that "bittervets" who stay "subbed forever" are buying plexes with ISK, and then using them to sub their accounts immediately after purchase, right?
You are referring to people who buy plex with cash, and then sell them to said "bittervet" for ISK. |

My honest opinion? The game will most likely be around for a very, very long time. It's been graphically updated, mechanics are being updated as well. There's really no reason for it to go down.
Having said that, it could drop dead in a matter of months, depending on what the developers decide to do. Last summer a particularly disastrous set of changes resulted in a roughly 17% population drop, and it would have continued dropping if the developers didn't jump up and started behaving. As it was, some people were let go and the whole thing was a mess. In other words, I consider EVE to be very stable, but it is not immortal. A set of bad changes, especially coupled with a slow reaction time to the problem, might easily kill it.
My personal opinion? Don't worry about it and jump in and give it a shot. Who knows, you might like it. |
