Edited by: Liang Nuren on 23/10/2009 21:28:41 They're: - Normalizing EMP damage to other racial ammos (incl faction emp) by adding damage to EM. - Adding tracking to longer range projectile ammo - Adding 25% alpha/duration to medium artillery, 75% to large - Both Optimal and falloff on TC/TEs - Swapping armor/hull on Phoon and Pest (~5K ehp to the pest with a full trimark setup) - Phoon gets 5/5 high slot layout

Archon is an amarr carrier and Templars are amarr type fighters.
ACs are autocannons, primarily used by minmatar and ships that don't have any damage bonuses anyway because ACs use no cap. . |

tbh half assed.
the ship changes are good, and the addition of falloff to the TC's seems ok, but the rest is meh. ---

Kinda gave up on trying to keep up with that thread, mostly as the changes weren't nicely grouped into one post so I figured I'd learn about it once it goes live. What's the idea of giving longer range ammo better tracking? Unless they're talking Barrage and/or Tremor I don't see the issue?

That ties into one other thing not on the list: Projectile ammo is going to be a consistent size.
Basically, currently while Laser Crystals and Hybrid Ammo get reduction in cap as your move toward the middle, Projectile ammo gets smaller in size. Few people really care that they can load more Depleted Uranium into their guns, because no one does it anyway. (This is one thing we didn't really complain about though).
CCP is replacing the ammo size variation with a tracking bonus (not sure what the final ammo size is). 0% at either end of the spectrum, and 20% with DU. I still don't think anyone will use Depleted Uranium, but +10% tracking is nice on Fusion I guess.

So basically, Titanium Sabot (In my opinion the best projectile ammo for most formal events) is getting EVEN BETTER and Alpha damage for Arties is being boosted?
Ok, I think I just made a mess and my Loki is getting all excited.

What, Titanium Sabot is great in my opinion, of course it doesn't deal the most raw damage or have the best range but I find that for most situations it's good instead of being excellent in a few. Of course, your mileage may vary, different play-styles and so on and I respect whatever your choice of favourite ammunition is!

There's no reason to use anything other than the 4 close range ammo in autocannons (emp, pp, fusion, titanium sabot), with the other ammo being the long range varient. With the tracking boost, who knows, long range ammo might be used in autocannons now.

No I'm saying that carbonized lead is the only long ranged ammo used in artillery, and none at all are used in ACs. None of it's including barrage or tremor.

C/D? I thought EMP was to be switched to the +25% dmg ammo type, and Fusion was to be the +50% dmg ammunition? Or did they decide not to do that?
Quote: Adding tracking to longer range projectile ammo
I have no idea why they decided to do this. I could understand this if hybrid ammo got half cap benefit from lasers, and half tracking benefit from projectiles.
Quote: - Adding 25% alpha/duration to medium artillery, 75% to large
Actually, if I understood it correctly, it's going to be 33% and 77.77%. I could be wrong, though.

Well, they specified it pretty plainly. It's because they're replacing the "size" bonus to midrange ammo with a "tracking" bonus to help alleviate the DPS lost to reloads. Did you even read the threads?

Here is a recent discussion of it: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1190604
And in case you're blind when reading the first thread, here's links to the posts: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1184365&page=12#336 http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1172933&page=25#723
They never fully explained the tracking changes. Best bet is to log on to the test server and try it yourself.

Thanks guys, so as I figured they didn't actually explain or theorise on the tracking modifier thing, at least not condensed into a proper post. It seems the "lets update all new changes into the OP of the thread and then make a short post stating the OP has changed" idea hasn't reached Iceland yet.

still think that projectiles are "confused". Nice dmg output; at a 1000m, then you might as well use blasters that put out even more dmg, and minnie ships don't rly thrive at such short distances, where basically any other weaponry will do better while also being in sturdier ships.
Fall-off? yeah great 50% of your EFT dmg or something. Wouldn't the best solution be to decrease the fall-off dmg penalty so that minnie ships can play outside the range as supposed to? to say, a 25% penalty so that they can actually put out some dmg without having to be up-close and personal with, let's face it, fragile ships

Let me get this straight. You are against a change to enhance the typhoon's usefulness and capacity for variety, and, in a sense, lower the mid-range SP requirements to fly one by allowing pilots to concentrate on either guns or launchers before going for the other without leaving them feeling like they absolutely need to do both at the same time? ____________________

It's funny how the "Minmatar fight only in falloff" crowd claims that Minmatar suck.
If you want to fight at range only, then you should be flying Amarr. If you want point blank damage only, then you should be flying Gallente. The idea behind projectiles is that they can essentially do both, but not so well as ships which only specialize in one thing.
Oh, yes, and I know the Tempest sucks. Let's try to not base every balance discussion around a ship which is essentially crap as a short range BS in today's EVE.
