Hey,
I have been getting deeper and deeper into the industrial side of this game, and wow, i have to say its starting to get pretty intense. I have actual employees and am having to track spending and sales and cost and profit!! Just like a RL business!!
Insanity. I need to figure out how to start making RL $$ the same as how i am making in-game $$
*laughs*
Any other MBA-podders out there??
lets chat, Cerfari

Yeah, in game corp =/= RL business.
There're a lot of the very very basics you can pick up from eve but RL is a lot more complicated and time consuming

I'm sure some in-game businesses are run better than real-life ones. I wouldn't put it on my resume, but if you enjoy it ingame, it's definitely worth looking into irl.

its legitamate experience... and it shows that you 'like' Business Administration because you are doing it in your free-time (AkA. not getting paid)
might even wana add in a few graphs of your in-game quarterly sales/profits

Yes. Put it on your resume. And wear your eve shirt to the interview. It helps you succeed in game, so it must work in business too. ----------------

In game, not really a lot. You could play with organization reports, team and individual performance evaluations and try writing up an IPO.
But Eve lacks a lot of real-world business factors, things like the need for genuine marketing, product differentiation, actual R&D, health and safety standards, employer regulations the need for annual taxation reporting etc. etc. etc. Meaning what you can do with Eve in terms of complex business reporting is very limited.
It's a nice environment for a certain amount of academic experimentation, but you get as much business experience in Eve as you do in games like old-school Sim-City.
That said, if you're enjoying the business side of Eve, take a look around for some short small business and management courses and give them a go.
Or if you have a business idea think carefully about the realistic minimum amount of cash you would need to get it started (think carefully though, a lot of people overestimate the amount they'd need and get put off) and give it a go. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
*edit* Just wanted to add some encouraging words as well.

A few things of note: Nice sig...clearly matches your avatar portrait.
And..if your MBA skoolen' didn't explain how and what to put on a resume, well...then...ehhh hope you had fun while you were there.
Having to explain to an employer what EvE is, what an MMORPG is, and how that matters in an interview is..unlikely to gain you employment in their services. Yes, you could argue "Well I wouldn't work for anyone that I'd have to explain that too, if they don't get it, then they aren't worth my time". I would love to use that argument EVERY DAY. Too bad I'm not independently wealthy.
As for EvE on a resume my advice would be "Use with care".
As for EvE business management and IRL business management being similar. Yes, think of it as practice. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a IRL business but it does have something and IRL business can't have. "when you shoot rats" money falls into your wallet. thus making a poor business decision survivable. As opposed to (IRL)"when you shoot rats" the popo shows up and takes your guns away, thus making a poor business decision.

While the market and manufacturing structure is pretty good for a game, it lacks noticable items, such as stock shrinkage, production quality - your widget may be better in real life than my widget because you have better quality production values - however in game once an item is made it's exactly the same as everyone elses.
Also widgets don't break when they're dropped on to the hangar floor either.
At most Eve online can be used to gauge your level of psychological understanding of other people, call it empathy if you like, or call it the power of suggestibility you have at getting other people to see things your way and then end up spending their free time doing what you want them to do and enjoy doing it.
Eve online on a CV - I've argued for it however it must be brief, it must be general i.e
I manage an online group of people in my spare time which helps my confidence in team building and other leadership qualities. I feel it is important to recognize the differences in individuals and understand the different techniques available to build a working relationship to it's maximum potential.
You don't even have to name the game, in fact the chances of meeting a fellow player is so damn remote that it's not even worth the risk.

I've heard of some of the high ranking wow guide leaders putting that down on resumes and such.
In a way it makes sense as far as managing numbers of people and coordinating and such but at the same time computer games don't yet have the acceptance despite games like capitalism plus being used to teach stock market trading or those Microsoft flight simulators teaching you most of what you need to be able to fly a plane.
So for me IÆll not put them on my resume as anything but a note in my hobbies blurb at the very very end. --
Nothing is worthless, you may have gotten it for free but it still has an inherent value

I track my costs and expenses for some time now, and things like changing price of Tritanium had me think hard about management accounting classes in university. I take great enjoyment in following my revenues and profit margin both in time and per item produced.
I would however never think about putting this in my resume - never ever, but that is just me :)

When you get into serious production and invention, especially POS-enabled production operations, you start dealing with some pretty interesting accounting methods to actually calculate your break-point and cost per item over the month. Actually assigning your POS operating costs to your finished goods is a challenging bit of insanity...
To say nothing about managing actual people :)

The trick if you haven't an alternative is to mention it in passing and try to give real world examples INSTEAD of ingame examples. They don't care about the game mechanics. Of course you could lie and use ingame examples of leadership as if they were from previous work experience.
