Faction battleships, such as the CNR, or expensive Marauder models like the Golem... are they mainly just used for Mission Running, or do people actually risk these (in my opinion) very expensive ships in low/null sec space, and not get vaporised?
I recently got myself a CNR, and while it's a very nice mission runner, I sure as hell wouldn't feel comfortable taking it anywhere that might result in someone other than NPCs taking pot-shots at it... so other than finishing a mission a *bit* faster, and the gloat factor (but then, every man and his dog seems to have a CNR at the moment) where's the advantage in a faction ship? Or is that the advantage?

Not everyone is equally poor or risk averse. They are there for people willing to take higher risks and willing to pay more for increased performance. They are not for everyone, but a nice option to have nonetheless.

TBH, if your faction ship doesn't have a point, you're doing it wrong.

I fly a 280 mil phantasm in pvp myself, I know people who fly faction officer fitted T3 ships, and I have flown with gangs consiting of 20-40 faction/pirate BS. All low sec.
So to answer your question: Yes they are used, and daily by some people.

some faction ships are better suited to certain tasks then their respected tech 1 counterparts, and that is the reason people fly them. yes pirate (battle)ships are used in low/nullsec pvp, I know I once had to run from a fleet consisting of 60 assorted faction ships cheers, Faros

Plenty of low sec pirates use very expensive toys. I have been known to run around with my collection of amarr navy ships. So far I've lost a navy slicer but I've got more and that one is relatively cheap anyways. The machariel, nightmare and kronos are pretty popular among low sec pirates as they are superb BS's. Obviously they are mostly used in low risk fights but they are used. -----------------------------------------------------

There is a point. Where we live many gangs wont fight unless they have a 3-1 advantage. Unless you bring some juicy targets. IEEX and Brick have had some excellent "all faction" ops with good participation. And then we all die in flames of course, but hey, thats part of the fun. Wish i had time and isk for more of those.
Also 4-5 nightmares are great for instapopping sniper hacs at stations [orange]Your signature is too large. Please see the http://www.eve-online.com/pnp/forumrules.asp[yellow]Forum |

Some people also just like to have a fancy toy to show off. Just don't let some 0.0 tards cyno a battleship fleet on top of you while you're sitting outside the station ****ing around:
