Nice interview with CCP Hammerhead. He didn't give away any shockers, but it is interesting to get the perspective behind the Game design decisions. The cosmic yellow bulldozers sounded interesting!

nice, EVE seems to be going in some good directions.
I like Hammerhead, he seems a nice guy.
Xiphos has a pretty good way about him being easy to understand, cool. I shall look forword to his blog going on again.
about low sec, one thing I do like about it, when you want some privacy and to just chill out, it is nice for that. Also there are actual reasons to get to know the locals & then to know you.
that was interesting about single players not being the thing to do in EVE anyways, but I still think if you made a 1 on 1 fight better you would make all other fight waaaay better, trust me.

I find it annoying how hard it is to fit the name "Hammerhead" on a NERF dart. ~ Prism X EvE Database Developer Relocating your character to a cozy, secure container since 2006. Relocating your cozy, secure container to the EVE cemetery since 2008. |

24 minutes, 38 seconds.
Host: "There were a lot of changes to ECM as it relates to the jammers, especially to the Falcon and the Blackbird. A lot of folks feel that they're still a bit out of whack. The Falcon is still very powerful. Is there a any chance that we can bring it down to a level more manageable to so that when a Falcon/Kitsune or even a Griffin shows up on the battlefield, it doesn't immediately 180 and change things to your opponent's side?"
CCP Hammerhead: "Is it that people think ECM is overpowered, or that people think ECCM isn't powerful enough?"
Host: "I'd say that ECCM isn't powerful enough" Regarding ECM:
In my not-so-humble opinion, it is NOT that ECCM isn't powerful enough, it's that every other form of E-war can be countered simply by outflying the E-war's game mechanics. Flying in a straight line and forcing your opponent to follow in a straight line will counter tracking disruptors. Flying closer to your target will counter damps and close-range scripted tracking disruptors, etc.
Now, what can someone do to counter ECM? Nothing except hope that they miss a jam cycle. Once you have 1 single racial jammer on you, there's very little you can do but hope to disengage and come back another time.
A bigger issue is that ECM is the anti-everything E-war. It counters every single module in the game! It drops all your target locks, which effectively disables not just your offensive capabilities, but everything. All you can do is try to disengage or wait to die.
Here's a partial list of the modules that are completely ineffective if you're being ECM'd:
Autocannons/Artillery cannons (all sizes) Railguns/Blasters (all sizes) Pulse/beam lasers (all sizes) Webs Target painters Warp Scramblers/Disruptors* Remote reps/Shield Xfers Tracking disruptors Energy Nos/Neuts etc.
It doesn't just counter damage dealing offensive modules, it counters everything including warp disruptors, so that after the ECM cycle ends, the only opponent that is still around is one that chooses to be.
* I've heard the original argument to nerf warp core stabilizers was something along the lines of "engaging in PVP should actually carry some risk to it" or something like that. ECM goes along the same lines of warp core stabilizers, completely removing the risk from PVP, because you suddenly have an ability to warp out nearly at will, as long as you have enough ECM to jam whoever is warp disrupting you. |

This is exactly, exactly the way I feel. So many things in Eve are very deliberate and predictable and can be countered if you understand a combat mechanism and it's weaknesses. Then out of nowhere we get ECM which is based on dicerolls and is a completely blanketing effective that makes a huge majority of modules and tactics suddenly become absolutely useless. People usually counter with an argument like "BUT ECM SHIPZ HAVE NO OTHER USE" or "ECM SHIPZ R WEAK U JUST HAVE TO BRING DA RIGHT COUNTERZ!!!" but that isn't the point. The point is that ECM is a weird and frustrating game mechanic that does not fit in with the rest of the types of E-War because it is way too abstract and generalized in what it can accomplish and negate.
Don't nerf ECM or ECM ships anymore. Instead, get rid of the mechanic altogether and make it something else. ECM is a plague upon any hopes of small gang combat continuing to exist in Eve as the population grows and ages. -----

I'd also like to add that while ECCM somewhat works ( in the sense that ECM doesnt work as often ) a single jam is still a devastating occurence in a fight.
In my mind ECCM needs to offer a flat chance of EW ( bar neuts/warp disrupting) not working : Introduce a new ship stat and call it Electronics hardening or something along that line. It should keep the sensor str improvements since thats also used for the probing mechanic.
Other possibly simpler ideas include making ECM have a 10 second effect followed by a 10 second cooldown.
