I am working on a fiction set in eve and I would like your input on put downs for each of the races of eve. I have not seen any on the boards and was wondering if there were any already out there.
I understand that it may be kinda hard to put up derogatory terms on the forums because of the block on foul language. Any input with be greatly appreciated.

It's basically a process of looking at what people would see about a race from the outside:
For Amarr there's always the classic "Slaver!" although almost any religious term, used with enough vitriol, can become an insult (for instance, I wouldn't be surprised to find that "Priest" is used as an insult in Minmatar space).
Minmatar are often tagged as "animals," "beasts," or "sub-human," or "terrorist" when involved in anti-slavery activities.
Caldari is a bit more tricky - one could see someone in the Federation referring to them as "drones" or "corporate slaves," while someone in the Republic might call them "slaver-lovers" or something similar; and, since Heth's rise, "Provist" or "Hethite" has also become an insult. In the most recent chronicle we saw "God-lover" used to refer to a Minmatar who still holds to the Amarr faith even after being freed and brought to the Republic; it's unclear if this extends as an insult to all Amarr or just Minmatar believers.
Gallente are easy - lazy, hedonist ****s the lot of 'em!
Some of the bloodlines might have their own "nicknames" as well - Khanid becoming "Dark Amarr" which might be shortened to "Darkies" or something similar in some of the sections of the Empire (careful using this one in fiction - people might not get it without some tacit explanation). Similarly, there are the Nefantar, AKA Ammatar (although Ammatar has been taken up as a name of pride among most of them) and are often called "traitors" by other Minmatar. ----------------------------------------------
Say "Amarr ships suk, lol." I dare you.

I've heard quite a few of these, both in fiction and in everyday RP in game.
"Non-Pat" - A name given to "normal" people by capsuleers, someone who isn't a capsuleer, just a regular citizen of New Eden.
"Wet-head" - A derogatory name given to capsuleers by the normal citizens of New Eden.
"Blood Traitor" - Ammatar, or any Matari who is on good terms with the Empire. Typically this is reserved for the Ammatar though.
"Provist" - As pointed out by Esna, it's become more of an insult than a general term. Usually used with a suffix e.g. "Provist pig" or "Provist bastard"
"Hethite" - Pointed out by Esna again, I've seen this used in relation to those in support of Heth's regime, although it seems to be a general word for grouping people, maybe it could be used as an insult in the right context.
"Egger" - A classic term that by some is viewed as an insult when used in a certain context, but is now a general term for a capusleer pilot.
"Meathead" - An insult I've seen thrown at a few Brutor in live RP, basically hinging on their physical appearance and insinuating "big and dumb"
"Ground Pounder" - A typically derogatory term for planetside ground troops (may become useful when dust hits!)
Caldari Specific :
There's a few words picked up from prime fiction that are also used, as well as some created as part of a player made Caldari dictionary of words and phrases :
"Hnolku" - Literally meaning "Traitor"
"Tyuui" - Literally meaning "Scum"
"Jaalan" - Literally meaning "Dissident"
"Guri" - A name given to a person meaning "Naughty Person"
"Bakaaro" - Literally meaning "Bastard"
I'm going to agree with Esna here, and say that a lot of today's insults are thrown around in general Eve RP and storytelling. I think his ideas about names that give status, like "Priest", being an insult in polar opposite societies are a pretty good idea and seem fairly realistic. For instance in current day life we already use the title "Queen" as an insult in some instances when questioning someone's sexual orientation.
Bear in mind that there's a hell of a lot of racism and prejudice based on origin in Eve as well. In the grand scheme of things I've not seen skin colour come into the mix much at all, typically the racism is based around actual bloodlines than appearance.
There's lots of scope for insulting each other in character, so have a bit of a play around with it and get colourful. As long as you're not running around calling people a "son of a Klingon *****" or something similar, I'm sure it'll be taken fine, at least on an out of character level

Well besides the ones already mentioned, I figure something such as fedo (or variations, I.E. fedo-lover) would be quite insulting.
Actually, the only eve animal I would want to be compared to is the Achuran songbird. The rest of those we know, those being slaver hounds, hanging long limbed roe and furriers are barely any more pleasant to think of than the fedo. Asides from that, as has been stated, a lot of modern-day insults would work well. Maybe use a few medieval ones for the Amarr, maybe throw in a bit of heavy sarcasm for the Minmatar ("Of course, oh divine and perfect emperor "), and so on. |

In the Gallente militia, we called the Caldari 'squids' or 'calamari.'
They called us 'frogs' and 'cheese eating surrender monkeys' among other things.

Use your imagination -- I made a couple of generic ones when writing my fiction, Fedo breath, goo breather and pod people.
You can create something that just from reading the different backgrounds. Also remember that inner culture would have different insults as compared to different culture vs culture.

For Gallente, "Bowl-heads" might be usable, given the Gallente fashion for wearing glassware on the head.

Some job descriptors could also be used as insults... Roid Humper, Rock Eater, Rock Hound and Slave Barge pilot - Miner Tinker, Builder Boy, and Lab Rat - Industrialist/Manufacturer Hanger Queen and Market Monkey - Market Player Rocket Jockey - Caldari missile specialist
General Descriptors... Floater, pod puke, booster burned, flesh monger, genital wart on the anus of New Eden (one I have used to describe ninja salvagers), wage slave, corp *****, son of a slaver hound...
Just use your imagination.

Just a note -- 'Dark Amarr' does not refer to the Khanid bloodline, but to the Khanid Kingdom, which are two entirely separate things. Well, not entirely separate, but fairly separate.

slight necro, but...
I too am in need of in character racial slurs.
I remember a piece of the prime fiction where racial slurs were used but I cannot locate it for reference and I am hoping someone on here can help me locate it.
It was a news article from some time ago (I believe pre AE but I am not certain) about a meeting of the CEP where discussion broke down into an insult match between the patriot and liberal factions. If I remember correctly the proceeding was something like:
1. Liberals accuse Patriots of selling out interests of the state to the Amarr 2. Patriots basically call Ishukone traitorous for its investment in the Gallente and Minmatar markets. 3. Article concludes by stating that progress on whatever was supposed to be being discussed is stonewalled. (I can't remember what was supposed to be in debate).
If someone could help me find this article I would be greatful.

NPC = Not Pod Controlled, any ship not piloted by a capsuleer and therefore considered inferior.
Usage in terms like:
They were just NPC's.
Groundlubber = Deragotary term used for planetary citizens who rarely or never travel in space.

the way I had it explained to me when I asked about "squid" was because of the Caldari using primarily blobs.
but.
and a bit of joking around about that followed for ten minutes or so on militia chat :P

Edited by: Mithfindel on 11/12/2009 08:29:02 The EVEtymology of "squid": A calamari is a species of squid. Caldari -> (Mon) Calamari -> Squid
The planetary environments are also often referred to as "dirt", "dirtside" or "down in the dirt". Loaning from the Foundation series of books, they had returning spaceship crews describe the odor of earth (generic noun here: actually on planet Terminus) as "****". (Called "poo" by children.)

Squid is a derogatory term used by marines to describe sailors..... sailors in tern define a squid as a multi-limbed ocean animal that s***ts all over marine life.
I spent 6 years as a squid on a Tank Landing Ship...delivering jarhead's to remote beaches.
Which has very little to do with this topic....unless it does.
I do like the Caldari-Calamari-----squid evolution seems natural.

The Minmatar militia call the Amarr 'Mary' - A-Mary-an.
Possibly because those robes make them look like drag queens not quite brave enough to come out of the closet.

Would "normal people" really insult capsuleers though? Considering their "demi-god" status and all? ____________________________________ "One mans thrash is a Minmatar's ship component" |
