Hi- and thanks for reading. I need help understanding the WTF of killing a POS. I war-dec the owner, we can fight, heÆs not online, so I go for his small minmatar pos. It shows up as ôanchoredö, not online. IÆm in a CNR set to pos bash (7 CN Sieges, rigs, 4 bcu, and 5,300 CN Bane torps dropped from a previous WT. I know I should have sold the ammo, but I figured it would speed things up a bit. My 2 gangmates are in T2 pulse/sentry ægeddons, doing about 1100 dps roughly, by their measure. IÆm doing 6,345 per volley, every 5.something seconds. The pos has NO shield graphic, and is only anchored, not online. IÆm thinking ôpiece of cakeö which, apparently IS a lie because the pos had a shield bar when locked. I launched all 5,300 banes, and still did not kill the shields, even with the 2 ægeddons helping. My math (rounded off generously): 5,300 ammo/ (23 is a clip of torps in a CN siege x 7 for CNR=161) =32 reloads Each reload does 23 volleys of 6,345 = 145,935 damage Total clips of 145,935 x 32 reloads = 4,669,920 damage over almost 2 hours, with the ægeddons doing the rest of the apparent 11,250,000 shields. We finished the POS when I got 3,000 Banes to reload. The armor and structure went quickly, relatively speaking. IÆm just ****ed because we had to kill the shields for an off-lined unshielded POS and that does not make sense. Can I expect this with every off-lined POS? Do all POS get shields when out of fuel? WHY? Other than research, people can just leave them unfueled and get the same effect as if they had fuel. In the POS attributes it says 99% hull resists to all damage types, but it does not list the hull points... We got the job done, but expert advice is needed. Medium and larger POS will be well-nigh un-killable. Thanks for your answers.

You could bring more people, you know. It's kind of what most people do when they want to kill a POS.
Minimum I'd want most of the time is 10 ships doing roughly 1000 dps each. On a small tower.
Medium takes more people. Large about 30-40.
Large with hardeners takes capital ship support and a lot of planning. At least, that¦s what you would prefer. You can maybe do it with 25 RR BS, but you don't want to.
Other than that, I agree that the HP of an offline tower should be drastically reduced. It¦s ridiculous atm.
TLDR; POS bashing is boring, takes a lot of people the bigger it gets, and actually manages to become even more effort the more people you bring.

Congradulations, you've worked out that the POS forcefield is not the POS's towers shields.
The Forcefield is the thing that makes the big bubble thing that makes other things safe The towers shields is what protects the tower --------------------------------------------

10 ships for a small will probably take you 40min + depending on DPS 10 ships for a med is going to be 3h+ 10 ships for a large is going to take 7-8+, with hardeners, it takes a couple of days.... Been there done that :(

You are confusing shield and forcefield.

Edited by: Tychus on 31/10/2009 19:00:13 Thanks for the answers... Every POS i ever shot previous had forcefield up, and i was in a big enough crew it didn't matter (0.0 dread blob ). But i think a fully shielded off-line POS is kind of gay. If you can't be bothered to log on for at least once every 30 days to check your POS for gas you don't deserve it.

Aren't they linked when online? I've thought of the bubble as being just the tower shield extended. So damage to bubble is same as damage to tower shield.

No the bubble is ONLY a Force Field which when activated stops things that are inside it from being damaged, the ONLY thing that is not is the Tower it's self which has like any normal ship/structure got it's own Shield/Armor/Hull.
If the Force Field was the same as the shield it would disappear once the shield had been taken down to 0% which it doesn't. that FF will stay active as long as the tower has fuel or is online, If the tower runs out of fuel the FF will disappear, the same happens when the POS is being attacked & it finally die's.....
Hope this helps a bit

Actually no. It stop things inside from being targeted. Many people thought the same thing than you and died as a result.
They get out of forcefield, get shot at, get back inside force field, and pop to the missile that eventually made their way to them, even if the attackers lost their lock.
You may also be vulnerable to smartbombs if you are too close to edge, never tried it. -- 081014 : emoragequit, char transfered to a friend, 090317 : back to original owner blog |

When you eject off a ship and it becomes neutral and "dead", does it lose all of its shields?

Sir, your unnecessary snark is uncalled for and poorly planned... And when you eject from your ship, do i still have to gather a dozen friends and shoot it for hours in a collosal boredom-fest before it dies? No? I didn't think so.
Please don't defend a player's ability to hold or defend moons/space in Eve without logging, playing, or even paying CCP. That needs to be changed.

Agree totally, shields are a POS. Armour-tanking is so much better.

Maybe it's poorly planned but still unlike you it takes into account that if game mechanics work in a way, other game mechanics of a similar kind (ie how shields are managed in case of absence of control) will also work in the same way.

yes Vaerah- Your "Why does my POS shoot down my spy alt in a war decc'ed corp?" post shows your utter mastery of all things game mechanic http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1208012 . I mean obviously you know everything. God forbid someone else playing this game have a question other than you. Are you measuring success in Eve as trolls per hour?
To those of you who helped- Many Thanks. Vaerah should learn from you.

We do medium's with 7 or 8 BS's all the time. Takes about 2 - 3 hrs or so figuring out time and how many ships are needed is l argly based on preperation and combat skills.

Oh, but you don't just ask. You don't know why stuff happens but judge it "gay" and similar and also go on and decide who deserves keeping a POS or not.
Also, on the other thread, I don't know what hit you in a particular way. Apart from some guy believing I really post on the character who owns the POS. - Auditing and consulting
