I'm getting into PVP and have a Tristan to work with for now. Any ideas on how I should rig it? Right now I have some random parts gathered from NPC fights and such.

Hi, are you asking about rigging or fitting, because there's a bit of a difference ;)

Fitting... sorry.. Still pretty new to the game. I've done some PVE, missioning and mining and stuff and want to try out PVP which I'm hoping is more fun and demanding. Really tryin to figure out which weapons I should go with on my Tristan. Long range vs short range, missles vs turrets (I know I can have both but I'm not sure which is really more effective) I don't have bottomless pockets but I'd like to know what I should save up for and train up to to be effective with a group and hold my own if I get jumped. I have reported the link to your dodgy looking site - make me very nervous reading about Elvis curios, not to mention it's not EVE-related in the slightest.
On topic, the Tristan's OK but the split weapon thing just really doesn't work well at all. If I were you, I'd be better off with an Incursus.

yes get an incursus. Its faster, easier to fit, easier to train for, and is cheaper. The extra tank of a tristan wont mean much at all in pvp.
then get Eve fitting tool and play.

An incursus is better for most things, but a Tristan can be fun in some situations, I love to get nos and neut in the highs and use the extra low slot to gain comparable speed to the mentioned incursus. This is something that will shine in a gang where a curse or other neut ship also is performing, you'll have enough grid to keep the tackle because of the nos, and start neuting before your main attack force arrives. The damage is pickles anyway if you shoot at it.

As said previously, an incursus if often better than the Tristan .
Anyway, as I was bored, I tried the following fit to duel against a mate's Taranis . I had a lot of fun.
-- [Tristan, duel] Small Armor Repairer II Damage Control II Adaptive Nano Plating II
Catalyzed Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator
125mm Railgun II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S 125mm Railgun II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S OE-5200 Rocket Launcher, Caldari Navy Thorn Rocket OE-5200 Rocket Launcher, Caldari Navy Thorn Rocket
[empty rig slot] [empty rig slot] [empty rig slot]
Hornet II x1 -- Just make sure you keep range below the warp scrambler's max range.
As this fit is thight, if you must downgrade or remove something, don't mess with the railguns as they do the bulk of the DPS. -- Erik |

hahaha Rails don't equal DPS!!!! They shouldn't even be used in the same sentence. ESPECIALLY when it comes to PvP.
Here is how I'd fit a Tristan:
[Tristan, duel] Small Armor Repairer II Damage Control II Adaptive Nano Plating II (or Reactive plating II to plug exp hole)
Catalyzed Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I Cap Injector, 150 charge
Electron/Ion blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S Electron/Ion blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S OE-5200 Rocket Launcher, Caldari Navy Thermal Rocket OE-5200 Rocket Launcher, Caldari Navy Thermal Rocket
[Small Trimark Armor Rig] [Small Trimark Armor Rig] [Small Trimark Armor Rig or Nano armor pump]
Hobgoblin II (or Warrior II) x1 --
The tristan was made to be an in your face brawler. It's a tank. if you want to rail kite a ship use one of the other gallente frigs (T1 Ishkur).
I have no idea why you'd use a hornet drone. kin/therm are the middle of the road resists, but the hobgoblin has a better damage modifier. The Warrior drone is the most common PvP drone since it is the fastest drone and can keep up with intys. Not to mention they hit the biggest armor resist hole, explosive damage.
edit: If you want to kite another frig using a tristan, I'd fit rails and light missles with a MWD, disruptor and cap booster. you'd still fail miserably, but that's the setup I'd use as you can stay completely out of another non-missle frig optimal range.

caboaddict :
You have an impressive log of lost tristans.
Now, I suppose that you'll try to say us that rockets are better than railguns.
I'm sure that you have read the descriptions of the bonuses for the tristan and incursus and that you have been able to understand that the falloff bonus of the incursus is useless for railguns and that the tristan's tracking bonus is nice with railguns but rather useless with blasters.
I use an hornet drone because they are quite fast and are shield tanked like warriors, and because kinetic dmg is better if I fight a rifter. If that said rifter is not stuck thanks to the webifier and scrambler, the drone is useless whatever I may do. -- Erik |

The main thing about a tristan is its high dps.
Not too practical if you want to be flying one soon, but if you have good skills you can do this:
[Tristan, Hmmmristan] F85 Peripheral Damage System I 200mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I Adaptive Nano Plating II
X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I 1MN Afterburner II
Rocket Launcher II, Caldari Navy Thorn Rocket Rocket Launcher II, Caldari Navy Thorn Rocket Light Neutron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S Light Neutron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S
Ancillary Current Router I Hybrid Burst Aerator I Hybrid Ambit Extension I
Warrior II x1
145dps with a 4k tank. The ship bonus to blaster tracking is actually pretty nice here, too.
But for a newer player I'd really strongly suggest an incursus if you like gallente. It's much easier to train for and leads along pretty nicely to a thorax.
