The Pilgrim is the best cloaky gank ship (other then t3) but its very particular about what it can do. . . it does not perform well in multiple roles. But a good pilgrim pilot can easily switch over to a curse and that ship, while not cloaky, is a very fine combat recon. ----

You heard wrong, or someone fed you some BS. SBs with torps can do fine against frigs with good skills and mods (which in an SB you should have anyway). You just need to know how to engage them.
But, sure, there are better ships out there for killing frigs. Look at some sort of destroyer since they're made to kill frigs - fast lock, great tracking, and lots of alpha.

Pilgrim or Rapier are good. Arazu would work well too, for cloaky MWD shutoff goodness.

Thanks for the responses! So am I doomed to train up force recon ships to achieve this goal? right now I can fly all t2 frigs except for intys and all t1 ships to bs's.

Well, yeah. Covert ops frigates really aren't meant for combat (the bonuses are pretty pointless). Stealth bombers are paper-thin and won't be able to gank any decent combat-fit frigate or any ship that can fit a flight of Warrior II drones.
You make Recon Ships sound like a terrible skill to have; it really isn't. Cloaky gank IS what you asked for, and the Pilgrim/Rapier are probably the best two for the job (their long-range tackle will take people in frigates by surprise )
TLDR train up for Recon cruisers, you won't regret it.

A few things of note: Cloaking devices have a sensor recalibration time - a time you must wait before you can even attempt to lock something. Your cloaking skill can reduce this by up to 50%, and there's a rig to reduce it by another 10%.
Anyways, remember that you will have to wait a few seconds before you can lock, and a second or two after that before you finish locking them and you can engage.
Certain ships have a "hidden bonus" which removes the sensor recalibration time altogether. IIRC, the only ships with this hidden bonus are stealth bombers and black ops (can someone confirm or deny this, please?) ---------- There is always a choice. The choice might not be easy, nor simple, nor the options be what you desire - but, nevertheless, the choice is there to be made. |

The guy who died to my untanked rocket Kestrel would disagree with you there. Fool never even got me past half shield.

If it applies to Stealth Bombers and B-Ops, I think it would probably also apply to Recon cruisers as well. My Rapier doesn't seem to have a recalibration time (if it does, it's quite short)

My Falcon does have a recalibration delay: 6 seconds (Cloaking IV). For Covert Ops cloaks, it's 10 seconds minus 10% per level of Cloaking. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |
