Does anyone see a major omission in the recent devblog about upkeep and upgrades in Dominion? There seems to be nothing to be gained from having players trading in your systems, and nothing to upgrade it or encourage it. I was hoping that Dominion would 'open up' 0.0 a bit, allowing haulers to run new routes, and traders to, well, trade!
Maybe something is planned for the future, any ideas?

CCP has stated that they want to release new infrastructure upgrades in future expansions so this is always a possibility.

If Dominion really does result in a hundred players per 0.0 system all mining, ratting, refining, salvaging and building; and if they don't all end up in tight command economies, then this could be a golden age for 0.0 trading. Pretty big "ifs", though.
Personally I'd like to see planetary interaction introduce new (dynamic) NPC trade good supply and demand as players develop their planetary regions. Amarr Victor. |

I'm still fairly new but I haven't seen any "market" modules for POS nor outposts. That may be something they get but, without those abilities...
Given that Dominion doesn't have such as an extension to it, if they don't already exist, you're looking at a good deal of valid muttering about the expansion. Higher costs forcing smaller groups to leave, etc...
If the ability does exist to have a "market" module... That could and would radically change a lot of things about the expansion. You don't need a "totally secure" POS to keep SOV. You do need a lot of activity in your system to upgrade it and upgraded... your system becomes more valuable to any that come there.
If you could setup a POS/Outpost with a market, then folks could use it as a trade hub of sorts to buy and sell (buying and selling being 2 different optional "permissions" so you could limit who can place buy and sell orders). They wouldn't "have to" buy nor sell at your station so you'd need some "reality check" on your prices or they'd go to the systems with all they plan to use for "hunting" of whatever and leave with their loot to sell elsewhere...
It would encourage folks to use "near by" facilities in your SOV territory and the taxes on the sales could help offset the new price models as well as potential profits on your purchases/sales through your station. Simply load up a few spots in your systems and allow folks access to the facilities/markets there. They then do "the grunt work" needed to "max usage" to upgrade the system.
Without that ability, folks have no real encouragement to "open up nullsec" more to newer folks. With it... You increase risks to stations but also gain profits from allowing others access, encourage more "usage" by others (risks raised here too) and the like. A hell of a trade-off situation.

Most 0.0ers would probably prefer popping you and taking your cargo for free to purchasing it on the market. I don't think CCP is going to be able to change that any time soon.
If you do want to sell to an alliance, talk to them about getting mutual blues for your character or just join up.

Honestly, I'd rather see an industry based upgrade module over a trade based one. And don't pretend like mining is industry. It's a bastard mini-profession masquerading as a worthwhile job, at best.
I can't really even think of what you could upgrade for traders that isn't already covered by skills/standings/outpost controls. ----------------

Dominion is not "we extend high sec to the whole map".
In fact guess what, jump freighters are going to stay hugely expensive, 0.0 players are still going to pay 1 million per 1000 m3 (I read from 800k to about 1M around in my corp) hauled over there. And an horde of local dwellers will do their possible to bump and pop the non blue freighter and get the stuff for free.
