I can't recall the last time I saw a mining op in null sec. I thought certain minerals came from Empire and the rarer versions came from null sec. Has reprocessing from lvl 4 missions replaced the null sec? Are reprocessed drones a large part of the issue? There's some mining arguments going on in the most recent dev blog and I thought I'd come get the information straight from the horse's mouth so to speak.

Yes and yes!
Akita T is the person that can answer this in way more detail than you would ever imagine though. Perhaps he will pop in and post the link to the threadnaught about it as I don't have it handy.

Thank you for the quick response. I'd like to see that link. That's a bit depressing tbh.

I remember reading somewhere at sometime something about NPC loot reprocessing making up like 40% of the mineral market.. but what do I know I just kill stuff. ...

Post #3 has a link to a possible solution and the link in the 1st post states that up to 40% of the minerals from from reprocessing loot (mission drops/drone alloy)

False, the post said that 40% of minerals comes from module reprocessing. One should note that people often build crap, move it and reprocess it again to move minerals, which makes several minerals show up twice from reprocessing.
Also, my corp mines a lot in 0.0 each day.

I'm curious about mineral compression using modules, like 425mm rails for balanced compression of all kinds of minerals or torpedoes for trit compression.... Is it used often?

I would expect it to be used a lot by people who think that not only minerals but also production lines are free

Would you rather transport 1 million m3 of minerals from highsec into lowsec with a Charon or 35k m3 of modules in a blockade runner?? The extra cost and time is well worth it.

OK, on a bit more serious note: by building 1 batch of Juggernaut torpedoes you compress 1690 units of trit (17 m¦) into 100 missiles (10 m¦) at the cost of 5 minutes of your production line. At current Jita sell prices you just made 20K worth of minerals into 34K worth of missiles.
I am sure that there are situations when it makes sense to transport the torpedoes from one place to another and reprocess them back into minerals. But I would think these are exception rather then rule.

The size of minerals and the space they take up in a cargo hold is a limiting factor in why raw minerals aren't moved around much. It is just not cost or time effective to make the number of jumps to move a massive quantity of raw minerals. If you can condense minerals efficiently into something else and reprocess the modual to get them back out with minimal loss it is well worth it to make one trip in and out than say 20.

Torpedoes are ammo. Ammo can be kept in the hold of a ship when the ship is placed in a carrier. Making torpedoes to ship minerals to 0.0 is therefore quite a resonable way of shifting tritanium.
It's not all about selling prices in Jita, especially when you need Trit in 0.0 to make ships to explode other ships.

mining ops in 0.0 are rare because its almost always quicker, more profitable and more efficient to just import low-ends from empire than to mine them in 0.0
its made even worse by the mineral fountain that is the drone regions, further depressing all mineral prices. until CCP provides some sort of super veldspar to 0.0, you'll honestly never see any major 0.0 group waste their time with mining for their own use.

Edited by: Venkul Mul on 11/11/2009 07:35:18 Note that the data in the table in the linked thread are from 1 year ago and that reprocessing include T1 and T2 ships (note the morphite under reprocessed loot).
Quote: This was the one month split for all items reprocessed measured mid-august to mid-september 2008.
So before the veldspater bluff and a lot of other changes.
I would very much like to see a up to date table.Link to the specific post: Mineral table

Now I understand a bit better; thanks for enlightening me (really) :)
