it's ironic that americans are the first nation to critise other countries human rights records when they still execute criminals. Personaly the guy should be locked up for good, but exectution? who will that help? no one. The people he shot will not come back from the dead through this, and will it help the healing of the victims families, probably not. Blood screams out for blood, but imho this makes those who will place the injection guilty of murder. say no to the death penalty and let america try and advance to a modern society...

Good ole VA
My only problem with a society that uses capital punishment is when a government tries to hide it behind closed doors. The only reason to keep it closed to the public is if for some reason you feel ashamed about doing it. If capital punishment is to be considered a deterant, and that a society is in the right to take ones life for breaking a its laws, it needs to be done in open view of the public that it is being used as a deterant in.
Fake Edit: In before the lock

death isnt the goal of a 'correctional center'... correctional centers are prisons, just because they have the facilities (read, a chair and a doctor) to kill someone, doesnt mean that its a 'death center'..
Also, I really dont get it. He could easily be classed a 'terrorist' - He singlehandedly (ok, he had help) 'terrorized' the DC area. People were afraid to go outside because of him. When the twin towers collapsed, many people wanted those who orchestrated it dead.. is this any different? Why are we now saying that americans are so barbaric for killing terrorists? I doubt their execution rate is even 1/1000th of their release rate.
EDIT: May be a slight exageration since an estimated 98 executions, since the creation of the death chamber in 1991, have occued there.

In my opinion, if you murder random people you aren't really human. Therefore, human rights have nothing to do with this.

People wouldn't say this if only the terrorists were killed, some of the time it's the brother of a terrorist and his most honoured wedding guests having a date with a remote controlled drone fired missile.

You might want to look at the cost of executing him. America is a long way short of China (who charge the criminal for the bullet) in terms of cost-effective executions. It would actually be cheaper to keep him locked up, and crueller which is why I would prefer he live.

Charging the criminal for his own execution?
****ing brilliant. Someone call congress. If we make them pay for their own incarceration and/or work off the costs we could save billions.

I was taking the statement and applying it to a larger theatre, and implying killing terrorists is barbaric if it occurs as such as I had previously stated.

Used to be standard. British hangmen were paid by the criminals' estates for centuries.
That said, prison labor is generally a good way to keep prisoner costs down. Properly motivated you can keep prisoners locked up almost for free.

Ok before all of you go criticizing the USA again, why dont you look at your own countries pasts?
Example, France killed people via the guillotine up till 1977 and this was the ONLY legal form of capital punishment in the country. Lethal injection or beheading. hmmmmmm
Also, have any of you guys taken the time to look at your own prisons or what goes on in them? getting sent to prison in most any nation is pretty much a death sentance all on its own. Watch the show locked up abroad, you will see how bad prisons are, even in developed nations.
So yeah, quit bashing USA until you look at your own country, and their histories and prison systems and judicial systems before you go out bashing anyone else.

Edited by: ZeJesus on 10/11/2009 19:48:24 There's only one punishment I could imagine for this guy instead of death which is forced labor. Chain him to a boulder and let him rot there with a pickaxe. No quarters, he sleeps, works, ****s and eats there, and receives food only in the amount that is absolutely necessary for survival. That's what these ppl. deserve.
These people, in my book, renounced their constitutional rights in the moment they chose to step over others' rights.
The very least such people should be outlawd and banished. Why keep them in prisons? So they could kill other people as well?
These are savage beasts. They physically harm their own kind. They should be destroyed in mind and body.
