So from what I understand in lower lvl wormholes there is no escalation, yet I see people selling whs with capitals in them... is there some reason for going through the effort to build the capitals in smaller whs? like c2 or c3?
If not for escalation then why? Id imagine t he defensive value of the capitals dosent really outweigh the production effort...
anyway guess Im just asking why it would be worth it to see if I should consider producing a cap ship or 2 in my c2 with static c4
Thanks. |

Home defence advantage (no other caps can be brought into your wormhole), lazy site running, logistics.
Either way it makes you a target, in that if people know you have one, given enough numbers they'll try and bait your capital out into pvp or just bash your tower in order to get some action

people think that building caps in a c2 is going to protect them from getting stomped on. generally it doesnt. |

Big Stick Syndrome.
I have lived in a C3 with a thany in hole and it was useless and anded up poping to a BC gang, not worth it don't bother. The one situation it was handy for was reping the pos mods after they where in caped during a failed eviction.
The only cap worth building in the low level holes is a roqe but that's only if your hard core industry set up, but as other people have said its going to make you a target rather than act as a deterrent. |

I haven't participated in a ton of POS bashes. As many here attest, they are tedious and boring, especially in WH's where you can't bring in caps.
The only times I have however its either because...
1. Fail fit POS with lots of potential goodies inside 2. Bait out known caps.
In every case I've seen the caps didn't help defense. rather they DIAF.
So yea I don't get why people bother. They seem to just make you a target. |

Any caps in C4's and lower should be for defense only. And by defense, I mean an overwhelming force looking to remove you from your wormhole. Anyone using it for any other reason will probably end up losing it in some ******** fashion, and hopefully to us! Alliance Diplomat, Recruiter |

Recently saw three Thannys in a c1. DOA reinforced one of their pocos, and the next day they pulled two out to rep the poco. Few minutes later, two dead thannys.
Felt good man.
Also, capitals in lower class holes are stupid. |

It's not stupid at all. If used correctly, it is a great advantage to have. Dreads makes removing the enemy POS that much quicker. Alliance Diplomat, Recruiter |

caps in low class WH are good IF you keep them stored and NEVER use them for anything other than defence against attackers who don't know you have them. If you leave them floating as a 'deterrent', youre just asking for it. |

This.
Also, adjust stront timer to come out during attacker's off-time.
Rep POS shields to >50% using your Nidhoggur.
Add more stront.

Most caps are built in C1/2 because j-space dwellers (even there) are filthy rich and and have nothing better to do than build silly ships as "experiments" which they can afford to lose wtih nothing more than a "meh, phailed that one".
Cue whinge from DarthNefarius... The box said "Requires Windows-á2000 or better", so I installed Linux. |

One thing to keep in mind by having capitals, is that they are not just useful for protection and site running (lazy style). But when people generally enter a system, spotting a capital on the system scanner normally gives you more peace of mind, since people tend to skip that wormhole and just roam through to the next one looking for easy kills.
But I must say in C2 sites, capitals are built because people simply have to much money. |

Clearly, you didn't read the other responses because capitals on scan do the exact opposite of what you described. Rather than cause them to move on to "easy kills" it usually causes competent groups to be filled with murderous desire. |

Why yes, I would like to deter all but the competent gankers in my system. Where can I sign up??? |

The age old question of "Do capitals in C3 classes or lower discourage or encourage being attacked?" Personally, if your POS is setup badly, then most likely encourage. But considering your sitting in a correctly setup death-star, most people will try to get you to fly it outside the POS somewhere and hopefully blow it up. Cause EVERYONE wants a carrier kill-mail.
Personally, we use ours for Fighter assignment only. Makes killing sleepers a bit of a joke tbh. Was also very useful for killing custom offices. Its absolutely NOT allowed to leave the POS. Its strictly there for a "the **** has hit the fan" situation. Solo Carriers are extremely vunerable to just about everything, and though having them in the lower class wh's does give you the capital advantage, be prepaired for it to explode if you use it unwisely. People will try to get you to do something stupid with it. The key is patience. Even the most hardened ganker squad will get bored and leave if you give them nothing but people within a shield. Sure, they might call you cowards for not coming out to play, but lets face it, gankers only engage when then the odds are stupidly on their side. They certainly won't want to take on a POS and a carrier, far to much work! Unless they're after your hole, which is a whole different thread.
For the ultimate "THIS IS MY WH" then start building dreads! Would make setting up another POS in your space extremely difficult, but you'd face exactly the same issues as a carrier, and it would be pretty useless for anything other than bashing opposing POS'. Would look cool though, if not a bit overkill. |
