Where are the quote marks around the word: "intelligent"?
I particularly enjoyed the one who said he hadn't even played.
Severe And Moses was content to dwell with the man:and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter. And she bare him a son, and he called his name Gershom:for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange land. |

I believe thats most peoples first few weeks of eve. I couldnt handle the mining or the repetitive missions so i started flying around in 0.0 in my first week. i think i got blown up by norad.. lol
anyways, point is, of course they are all going to say its boring. You dont get relaly going into this game until about a month or so. What these guys are saying doesnt really mean much, since they seem to hve only played it for 2-3 weeks at max.. lol.
I like this line..
"when i say no PVP I MEAN NONE!@!!!! "
-------------------------------------------- I've had the same Gurista Imputor on my tail for the past 16 systems..
2004.08.16 21:38:37 - Combat: Your 250mm Prototype I Gauss Gun perfectly strikes Blood Sage, wrecking for 324.9 damage.

Often I read that in the beginning it can be dull, boring and difficult.
Weird, I was hooked from the first minute.
EVE is not the mindnumbingly boring XP grind of killing rabbits for days on end and the tutorial when I did it long ago only taught the basics.
What I loved about EVE was that the rest was up to me to discover. No one telling what to do and how to approach the game. Open ended gameplay, that's what I like.
This does not appeal to everyone, like the statements describe above. But you wouldn't catch me playing games like EQ where you have to kill fluffy bunnies for hours on end to progress up the XP ladder, or to wait in line to have a shot at Ueber NPC's Lair to get my hands on a sword of godly powers +1.
Like someone above mentioned: EVE is better off without people like that who need to be spoonfed all and have an attentionspan of a fish.
(or was that a memory of a fish...?)

I really hope thats the edited down version... Someone must have put some good ones in... mmorpg.com comments are generally 90% trolling, every game I've been playing and read about has been something like that.
The only thing I can think in some of those comments - and understand them - it those "conditioned" to the more traditional MMOG (swords/bunnies all that jazz).
eve doesn't exactly fit to that perception. I came from AO (anarachy online - with a little eq for good measure) - I was expecting groups alot more. You know that whole tank, crowd control, main damage dealer type thing. You only really get this with PvP - (try telling me that warp scramblers and webifiers aren't snares and roots).
You don't get this in the early game (and I personally wish you did) what you get is a very crappy (imo) tutorial which bores you silly by hauling cargo - reports 1 system - then realise you don't know your way back - and then 2 systems and back.
I would like to see eve reward players alittle more who do group. (you solo boys can do what you like) In your newbie ship the only difference if you work as a team or solo - is you get less of a bounty when rat hunting. The game encourages solo play rather than group play. Your hardcore MMOG player expects to group from the start - eve is the only MMOG where its almost counter productive.

lol
Nothing as critics, eh?
Anyway. what shines through most of these descriptions, is that people have a lag of either playtime, or even a remote attempt at getting into the depth of the game.
On the other hand, I must admit some of these statements have something true to it. One is the graphics discussion. I'm not an expert, but making a spacesim look very good, is easier than walking. talking and breathing humans(characters) and if you don't know how to get into the game, through social interaction, it can get quite tedious as with everything else you do in life basically :P.
EVE is also a game that has no steadfast purpose, and as such require you to find your own goals or meaning with playing. Why I think it has an appeal to an older or more mature player base. Think the last count showed somthing like half the players is 18-29, a small percentage below, and a larger percentage spread 30 up to 99 or so. This does'nt appeal to the people wanting fast action right away, and I don't think this is where EVE will get many of its future subscribers.
Was actuallly quite surprised when I found many of my corpmates have children, steady jobs and are all grown up Nerds! hehe

Probably mostly younger players that expect the game to keep them busy, while in the MMORPG that is EVE it's actually the players that create the content.

You're going to find critics like this on any game that you play.
I was hooked in the first 5 minutes of playing. The whole thought of being one out of thousands running around in this huge galaxy just boggles the mind. Another thing that I like is that you can do fast paced stuff, then slow it down a bit and mine or do courier missions.
There is something in this game for everyone.

Edited by: June li on 05/11/2004 23:21:55 You have to remember that most people who play online rpg's are people who think diablo2 is great. The thing with diablo2 is, even though it has very little content and is practically entirely hack and slash, you can get very far in just a day with little to no work involved - a lot of online rpg's are like this. These people are just impatient. They don't take the time you need getting started to actually judge the game, they judge it on how they played for 2 weeks and didn't get ****, they're still flying freakin merlins in 0.8 space doing level 1 missions and mining veldspar.
Well, 2 weeks isn't ****. That's what they need to realise. These games run for years, if you could get somewhere in 2 weeks, the game would be balls.

I dunno. When I first started EVE I was okay with it, but didn't quite see the joy in the much-lauded combat system the game had. Of course this was from the viewpoint of an Ibis with a civilian gatling rail chasing training drones.
Of course, then I saw my first Paradise Cruise Missile explosion. My pupils dilated to the size of silver dollars and I've been hooked since.
I can see how some people couldn't get into it, but yes, it does seem to be mostly the sort that run on sugar and actually like CGI martial arts movies. ----------- Fighting for the ideals of freespace, posthuman ethics, and rock & roll. |

Exactly, I hope this never changes. While I don't expect everyone to like EVE, the majority of people I have met in this game have been slightly more intelligent than your average Joe. Judging by the way in which these guys have conveyed their criticisms suggests they should be playing Time Crisis.

I think Eve is a great game. It brings me back to Privateer days although considerably more sophisticated. I hope Eve continues to evolve for many years to come. While I'm not an expert on MMORPG, I can't think of a more forward looking, scalable game than Eve. I give CCP its due credit.

These two are in my opinion the most funny ones. I have yet to find a single real 'L33T child' or 'CS kiddo'. Ah well. I think the game is better off without these kind of people. I'm kind of happy with EVEs playerbase, it's the most mature one I've found yet.
Interestingly enough, EVE is the first MMOG, that hooked me up enough to make me pay for it. I tried UO, AO, Neocron, Everquest, Asherons Call, DAoC and some more I can't think off right now, and I think most of them are fun, but not fun enough to pay loads of money for them. That's coming from me, being sixteen years old. Doh.

heh, the reviews on that site are almost always like thoes, on just about ever mmo.
I recall when I got in beta and was just dumped in space. No toturial, nothing. "Um, what the hell do I do?". Simple - you start experimenting. EVE is built for those that are willing to take a chance, the ones curious (insane?) enough to try something [new] out.
I hate MMO's that are super dumbed down (can you say Earth & Beyond, or Horizons to name a few?). EVE is so incredibaly complex it is mind bogeling. And with all the new stuff comming in SHiva/Exodus It will be even better.

The major problem about comments like those on mmorpg.com are that its a well known fact, that if 100 people like something, only a few of them will tell others or comment on the game saying how good it is. But if those 100 people HATE the game then the massive majority will post negative comments about the game cause they are annoyed that they dont have the time or patience to get into a game such as EVE.
Thats why i never judge a game on the comments made on websites.

Think outside the box, or at least the tutorial area in the noob system , does this ***** even know what a stargate even is LOL
I was hooked the instant EVE laoded up and i saw the graphics and my little reaper noob ship in all its wonderful glory, it was the bees knees. I even owned a probe and rifter before i realised i could get rid of my crappy Basic Miner. I always wondered why it took 25 minutes to fill up my probe. The wonder of the Miner I, it was the bees knees. Wow an indy, it was the bees knees. LOL

I think CCP need to do more to entice the hardcore Everquesty and Diablo II style players to play and enjoy this game.
Putting some wizards in it would be a good start. These people actually dress up as rangers and monks when they are playing you know. Surely that has to be good for the Eve community, and these guys should be our target market.

What I have found is this:
Intelligent people play EVE, Non-Intelligent people play the hack/slash games.
That's really all there is to it.
It is boring in some parts. Im just moving into my 3rd month, where skills take 1day+ to train. It's boring, but there is plenty you can do while your waiting.
But im not going to explain it if they did not take the time to play it.

The problem with EVE is that content makes it more boring and contentless for nubs. Its just more time till they get to the good stuff. Its just ore time till they can do what everyone else is doing and maybe become competitive.
To really work for nubs EVE should a constant supply of new people. Nomatter howmuch CCP would want that, its just not gonna happen so basically the only nubs that get to be non nubs in EVE are people with patience and alot of spare time. Is that good or bad? No idea!
Originally by: cashman It's time for Eris to get a clue. CCP should make a statement about this.
It's the exact same things as what Zombie did, you may not attack in "safe-areas" (empire/within sentry range) without loosing your ship.

Well guys..I am sorry...
but I do agree on some of the points...
when you are a newbie to this game..it would look like its all about mining...I use my 2 first days mining..just to get my frigate...a merlin...yea..we dont all play 24 hours a day..
after getting my merlin I tried some combat..just to find out that it was a hell of a battle..just to tell a few rats...not very funny....
next I found out, that some players just like to kill you..because they can..I was going to get a blueprint for my ammo...and got killed...on my approach to a gate..
VERY later on..I found out about the security system... 1.0 or 0.4 and all that
those thinks was not in the manual..I got killed in 0.4
so...it can look boring for newbies...
but..I stayed...
but I can see what the people mean...it can look very boring...
and I also tried pvp..but unless you train for like 10 years...forget it...

Edited by: Zibun Ionic on 09/11/2004 09:09:04 Huh, boring? If it's boring, then don't play.. That's my advice.
But I personally find EvE teh best game ever. Space could be utterly boring space, but who cares when ya can fly around in yer ship and look at all that vastness?
I actually hope that space in EvE would be more free, like you could set ship warping in some defined coordinates.. Like the all space in systems would be in use.. Not only planetsides and other objects.
Just bit more chances to boredom yerself would be great
One more thing... If everything would be aquired quickly(like biggerships and ³ber modules) would it be still very boring? And furthermore it would be wrong against those players who've spent time to get them. Games are not meant to be too easy. I think EvE have it's difficulty right on its place.
