THERE IS NO REASON FOR SISI PATCHES TO SHUTDOWN EVE-TQ
JUST LOST 5 WASP2S BECAUSE OF THIS GARBAGE.
FIX THIS NOW. ------------------------ To make a megathron from scratch, you must first invent the eve universe. ------------------------ Life sucks and then you get podded. |

Your own fault really

A standard protocol for crappy PCs with crappy OSs from 1998, maybe.
Today, it is just useless, and I agree with the OP.
I don't see why it is necessary to close EVE-TQ when EVE-SiSi must be in an another folder, and so no interference is possible. _______ Local is fine, period.
CCP devs, you nerfed shield resists by 8.3% but armor by 7.1% (The old Explo/EM "10 points" Nerf). When will you correct this inconsistency ? |

As you seem very competent on this question, maybe you can give me an explanation ? _______ Local is fine, period.

running or starting any other program crashes eve more a vista thing i thinj Signature - CCP what this game needs is more variance in PVE aspects and a little bit less PVP focus, more content more varied level 1-4 missions more than just 10 per faction high sec low sec and 00 |

Yea, come on CCP, do the sensible thing...

The sad thing is, the installer probably kills every process called "exefile.exe". So developers of the world, never call your executables that way or CCP will kick your processes.
Not the same, but nearly as fail as the boot.ini thing... - Success=Achievements/Expectations

The ExeFile.exe has the version number inside him, and it is a different number between TQ and SiSi.
It should be possible to get the file location of any process, then check the file version of the EVE found, compare with the last known number, them close EVE if it is not the TQ version. _______ With the NGE, I''m sorry about the mistake we made. We screwed up and didn''t listen to the fans when we should have, and it''s not a mistake we''re going to make again.

This is a limitation on Windows Task Manager.
The install script closes any process called ExeFile.exe. As it can not access any data from within that process (courtesy of windows process security), nor see the filesystem location of the originating executable, you can't filter for either of these.
They could resort to appending the version to the process filename (exefile_90210.exe) but this would severely complicate the patching process.
Since the application must not be running when you patch it (due to file locks), and you can't determine which of the processes need to be closed, it closes all of them. It's not CCPs fault.

Yes you can, shut up.
The Windows Process Status API will return an enumerated list of processes via EnumProcesses. You can then use GetProcessImageFileName for the full executable path name. Both of those functions have been included since Windows 2000.

This is so simple to do, CCP just didn't bother.

It does if it is Eve Online, not an exefile.exe from anything else.
Whatever you have one or two or more Eve launched, they will be closed the moment the patch is launched. _______ With the NGE, I''m sorry about the mistake we made. We screwed up and didn''t listen to the fans when we should have, and it''s not a mistake we''re going to make again.
