This is not the devblog I was looking for.
That said, I would also like an answer to the question about the need to fit an afterburner for these deadspace pockets. Not every small ship or race is equally blessed with the holy midslots.

Having moved out to 0.0 within the first few weeks of my eve career I don't have standings with any factions (pirate or empire), and don't know much about missions. How difficult would it be for me to unlock these?
These speedboat missions seem quite interesting and I'd like to try them, but I'm not about to move to empire and grind newbie missions for a week.

Edited by: Peryner on 17/11/2009 00:38:37 I'm sorry, but how do you find out what agents give these missions without reading this devblog.
If there is an easy way in game to fine epic mission arcs I don't know of, then awesome, good work ccp. I like how you can be directed by an agent towards these new epic missions.
If you can't figure it out at all unless you go OUT OF GAME, then god damn it cpp, stop hiring nerds that program games as if everyone has the knowledge they have when making the new missions.
seriously... these new missions add nothing to to game if there is no way in-game to tell them apart form any normal agents. And if it's impossible to figure out who to get your standings up.
It's just a big ugly mess you need to revamp 3 years ago. Your mission agent mission is horrible, and you've had it on your to do list, on this site, for the past 3-4 years as long as I've been playing.
and for some reason I get the feeling these missions will no be easy to find at all without doing out of game reading.
Here's an idea! because I would never criticize if I didn't have a solution of how I would do it.
remember that tutorial mission where the pirate you have to kill tries to make 0.0 pirate faction life sound like the beesknees? Make that a branching story path! So instead of saying random fluff, have him actually point you in the direction of the highsec agents that give the missions. Then let the players talk to the agents and have some cool rp fluff of them saying they know nothing about such mission, but maybe if they did some work for the corporation they could open the door.
then the new player feels like he is working up to something big.
Apon getting the missions done needed, he goes back to the pirate highsec agent and is given this epic mission! along with a quick tutorial about what BUBBLES ARE, and how 0.0 WORKS.
Now the new players has an understanding of 0.0, bubbles, and found an awesome mission to work up to that will give him great rewards! all without it being forced on them, and all without alt-tabing out of eve.
and it would be easy to put in, just have what you do know, but add in a pop-up tutorial about 0.0, speed fitting, and bubbles when he gets the new epic mission, and change the text in the starting agent mission to actually give the epic mission agents name.
like how you did with the 1st epic mission arcs aimed at new players.
unless of course you already have a cool way to do all this then ignore me.

Why didnt you put one starting agent near fountain for angel arc? There are allready some angel agents there. As well as there are 4 lvl 4 q20 serpentis agents in curse If you have allready decided to put agents from one faction in two different regions you could then put epic arc agents in all regions with that faction.

So Thukker Tribe, former members of the Angel/Serpentis block, have a harder time accepting the Domination arc than career Amarr Navy pilots due to the standings reset in Apocrypha to give some ingame news item some cred?

Quote: First, you will not be able to enter some of the deadspace pockets in the arc with your Battleship. (Though you can with your Interceptor.)
Does this ship restriction include t3 ships ? Or can I do the missions with a T3 cruiser as well ? Quote:
Angels arc, "Angel Sound"
For years the Angel Cartel has been the undisputed master of both advanced and ancient technology among the pirate factions. But with the appearance of wormholes and the discovery of Sleeper technology, that advantage is at risk of disappearing. Cartel agents are recruiting capsuleers for missions of sabotage and destruction aimed at preserving the technological edge of the Angels. You will travel through Angel and Serpentis space, along the way destroying Sansha exploration teams, fighting off Gurista raids, and showing the Empires the dangers of encroaching into pirate space.
This description of the angel missions sound like you will mostly be killing other pirates with just a little bit of shooting empire navys. Is this correct?
And can someone point me to the derived standing loss equations so I can figure out how much my State standing will suffer from a 30% boost to Angels?

Never did check if I ultimately unlocked the guristas agents afterwards. Being -10 with diplomacy at like 3. I would hope that it'd make lvl 1s available.
Quote: 5. What about standings? Will this arc repair my standings with the pirates? Yep. Each pirate arc will give you a 30% standings gain as part of the reward. Consider it a sort of ôredemptionö mechanic: Running this arc will put you rather favorably in the eyes of the pirates, and youÆll be able to redeem yourself anew with those salty dogs. Even if youÆve tanked your standings to the point of no return, well, this may be your road to redemption.
Never did check. 30% certainly isnt enough for most I think. I'm -10 with angels and guristas. if 30% is all. I'll be like -6 still. Which is still no return. -2.01 is no return.
I have a feeling we are going to have a few people go tank their empire standings and not recover enough to unlock guristas. They'll be busted on both sides.
These epic arcs aren't COSMOS, you can do them as many times as you want.

ok how about me? I'm over 4 years old i this game. How am I suppose to find this missions? OTHER than going out of game?
also... not for newbies? wait.. what? you do them in small ships. You can do one of these within your trial period easily.
also at the end of the mission does it lead you towards other pirate agents?

Sounds all good and peachy!
Except ...
... add an in-game way to find those alternative agents where you can start the epic arcs even if you have bad pirate faction standings!
Maybe drop a note when you killed certain pirate ships in a mission or in the belts, a note which will lead you to those agents. Yeah I know, a bit awkward but better than nothing! Please keep things in-game and as immersive as possible!

Right now, I don't have an answer to your first question about finding them..guess go out of game? mouth-to-mouth? asking?
And yes, these missions are not for new players. You don't see a complete new player cruising around in 0.0 with decent travel/combat fits on a T2 frigate? No, you don't. These missions are for people who are looking to work for the pirate factions and with a decent knowledge of how 0.0 works, especially in a Interceptor. It's not something a new player could pick up right away. You don't like it? Don't do them, easy as that. »»»»»»»»»»»» Willtanking - I am tanking by the force of my will to survive! |

I'm not saying I don't like them. I'm saying there should be a progession. In my post, I said that the newbie mission would lead you too the agent. You would then need the standings to even try. The new tutorial is suppose to teach new players it's ok to die. So honestly I don't see whats wrong with letting new players burn in 0.0
I don't know, it's jsut this reminds me of Cosmos missions, they just feel seperated form the game itself. It's not that I don't like the missions, or want them to be easier. I jsut think ccp need to stop thinking like programmers for the c64, and start thinking as storytellers.
It could be somethign else too, like an ingame mail when you gain the standings needed. You get contacted by a pirate who knows some corrupt agents in highsec, and tells you if your interested in switches sides, this is your one chance.
then at the end it should open a few 0.0 agents.
Or something like that.
missions are great, but CCP need to think of eve as a whole and tie everything together. It's that attention to detail that separates great game design from good game design.
I guess I just want to see this missions be something that is part of game. Not somethign you find out about because you hear it out of character somewhere. *cough*COSMOS*cough*
