Even though there is factional warfare, I don't think my standings should go down if I improve standings with one of the empires. For example if my Caldari standings go up, my Gallente shouldn't go down automatically.
Now if I blow up Gallente ships/structures in missions, then I should lose standings. But If I avoid being an enemy of the Gallente, I should not lose standings just because my Caldari standings go up.
That goes for across the board for all the empires.
Standings should be based on what you do, rather than who likes you.
Thanks, DZ

So if someone helps an enemy of yours, you mustn't dislike that person? Doesn't work like that. If I help one side, the other side will not like it, even if it's not directly against them. If I help both sides, neither will trust or really like me.

Good point.
But, I think there is a difference at the "national/empire" level rather than the individual level. Of course if I directly harm the other empires I should lose standings. But I shouldn't lose standings for being a citizen of another state and/or another state likes me.
I don't have control over what my state does. Especially in EvE.

I disagree, because there is a cap to how low derived standings will take you. You can mission all year long for Caldari and never go below -5 with Gallente, unless you're also shooting Gallente ships as a part of those missions. The cap is different for different derived factions.
Off the top of my head I seem to recall that Caldari derived standings will cap you out at +7 Amarr, -5 Gallente and -2 Minmatar if you're not killing their faction navy ships as a part of running missions.

Thank you for the input.
I don't think a "cap" to how much the Gallente dislike me is realistic in light of the points I have made.
And if I go below -2.0 I start getting shot at by Gallente Navy forces if I go into a 1.0 Gallente system. -5.0 gets you shot anywhere in their territory, so it doesn't matter if you are -10 or -5. You still get shot at.

Actually, that's how Security status works -2.0 you get shot at in 1.0 and -5.0 it's everywhere.
Standings for the Factions work differently, below -5.0 they start shooting you though I not sure if it's tied with the sec status of the system. ______________________________
