WellàIÆve tried playing Eve three times now over the past two years. So I got the itch again and decided to reopen my account. IÆve been having a wonderful time so far with the new tutorials and learning the salvaging trade.
So last night I decided to upgrade my salvaging potential by getting a brand spanking new Thrasher with all the trimmings. I guess this would be a good time to tell you that I decided to kick back and have a couple of beers. ^_^ Anyways, I get my ship all loaded up and headed out to a nice Angel complex. Did I mention I had been drinking a little bit?
Whelpàa long story short I jump in and started tanking the Angels while salvaging the carcasses left by so many battles beforehand. I figure IÆll warp out once my ship got to 1/3 armor (since I had a shield booster and armor repair). LOL, due to my drunkenness my itchy warp-button finger was too slow on the draw. The Angels hit structure while I was aligning towards my jump destination. Then BOOM! I lost my brand spankinÆ new Thrasher on its maiden voyage. Was I ****ed? No, not really. What got my tighty-whiteys in a bunch was my continuing drunken stupidity. I was like ôhey I better go get my frigate salvager, get in there to pick up the parts before someone ninjas themö. BOOM! My frigate was taken out as well.
Moral of the story is: DonÆt drink and fly, kids!

No, the moral is dont dual tank. Just shield tank your thrasher and use the low slot you have freed up to either enhance that tank or increase your damage output.

The above, and I would also recomend that you not salvage as you go in level 1's in a destroyer. Also you really do not need to worry too much about ninjas coming after your missions. Usually they are only able to scan down level 3's and 4's due to heavy drone usage. That is if you are in a deadspace. Either way, unless you are in a level 4 mission hub you will not have to worry about the ninjas till later. Use the slot with the salvager to fit extra turret or launcher.

It's always "just a couple" of beers. Just. A couple.
How come people who drink more than a couple of beers seem to never have this problem?

EDIT: Do not forget to platinum insure all T1 ships. Not sure if you recieved that since you did not mention insurance and said that you had to jump back in the frig.

Okay, thanks for the advice guys! I'm still learning and everything. This actually happened in one of the public Angel bases (I can't remember what the term is call, but anybody can access this Angel area). I thought the Thrasher could take a little more of a pounding, but they just kind of overwhelmed me.
I'm waiting till I finish all the tutorials, then I'm gonna start looking for a good corp to get into.

Think my real problem was how to get those beer bottles open in my gooey pod juice.

Kids, do not listen to this misguided man. You should play EVE as much as RL allows, and if you're not drinking you're doing it wrong.

ahh yes. I've said this many times. Don't drink and fly.
I once logged on after a night of doing something on EVE (don't even really remember what it was) while drinking, to find myself in some system I never heard of, sitting in a Badger that I hadn't owned the night before (with no mods fitted), and wondering where my Drake was.
Wasn't very fun. --------------------------------------------------

Sometimes after a night of drinking, I'll wake up the next morning and I'll be missing 100 million isk out of my bank account.

No worries. But the issue is that the destroyer class is paper thin and as you can see from the lack of mid and low slots its ability to tank is severly hampered. It is a class of ship that is used in really 4 situations that I know of.
1) Advanced level 1 missions for standing. Meaning use it to grind standings once you have good tanking skills or navigation skills to kite the NPC firgates.
2) Anti-frigate platform in pvp. It does not last long in many situations.
3) Dedicated salvager
4) "Sniping" in pvp

The dedicated salvager was what I was going for. Unfortunately I decided to drop into a hot zone full blinky Angels. I'm just glad I didn't have my ship fitted with expensive tractor beams and salvaging rigs. That would have really burned. Signature: Reserved Parking. |

Eve should have a breathalyzer test to insure all players are drunk, all the time. Kids should do their homework anyway, not spend their time flying internet spaceships.
Just imagine the fun!

Around a month or so ago I was drunk and wandering around and ended up in youl for some reason. A newer guy was asking in local for some isk so that he could buy some skillbooks or something so feeling generous I sent him 2m ISK as I was logging off... Or so I thought! The next day I was going to go outfit a new apoc and realized then my wallet was 200m short of what it had been the night before. After some investigation it appears that I gave that noob 200m instead of 2. I asked for some of it back but he said he liked it too much, and really I don't blame him, I would have done the same. <-------------------------------------------------> "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." -Albert Einstein |

People who have had just a couple are trying to convince you they are not alcoholics. People who have had more are trying to convince you they are, when in reality they don't drink much.

Several things happen DPE "Drunk playing eve"
You wake up the next day several million ISK less and can't remember how you spent it. Or you take your passive Drake into low sec and within 30 seconds get jumped by a horde of pirates.
You wake up and in the chair and your logged off for maintenance, spend the next hour trying to remember how you got 65 jumps from Corp office.
You take your Orca into low sec and play chicken with pirates, you thought it was fun after the 12th 16 ouncer.
after the 15th 16 ouncer you tell your wife to take control of the Orca in lowsec to ****.. She comments on the way back from the toilet\fridge\refill how great the explosion graphics are, and then as you trip on the dog in the door way hear the evemail insurance "Cha-ching" chime in.
It get better, but I would digress.

The dual tank was certainly the problem.
And underestimating the time to warp away.
But mistakes can be cured by gaining more experience, mind you: CAN. |
