Hello all,
I have been trying to find the most updated info on Drones but no luck. I see that drones have been through a lot of changes and all the FAQs or info threads I have found are outdated.
First, I heard that Heavy drones were nerfed. Are medium Tech IIs better than Tech I heavies? How do Tech II heavies stack up now?
Second, I was under the impression that with Drones V and Vexor/Domi with the Cruiser/BS skills trained up I could launch more than 5 drones. Someone said that only with Vexor I could launch more than 5 and everything above cruisers was nerfed.
Third, I see some skills being mentioned in FAQs that are not what I see in game.
I'm just trying to get the updated drone info so that I can fit my ships properly.

I'm going to assume the nerf to heavies was the introduction of bandwidth. This change put a limit to the power of drones out at any one time (which is separate to drones in bay), but he maximum drones on a noncapital ship is 5 (Except for the Guardian-Vexor, a collectors ship).

Heavy Drones are slow but they do a fair bit of damage. I recently moved from T1 Ogres to T2 Ogres and to me they appear totally worth it.
Dropping the right drone for the right job is about the best advice, smalls for frigs and dessys, mediums for cruisers and battlecruisers, heavys for battleships.
The only way of dropping more than 5 drones at a time is with the Drone Control Unit and that only fits on cap ships, unless there's some drone boat I'm missing.
As for skills you "need" or want, look at evemon. Most of them are pretty self explanetory, the only one that's a little odd is the electronic wafare drone interfacing as it boosts range to all drones. Apart from that, stick to gallente drones, they rock ;) --
Nothing is worthless, you may have gotten it for free but it still has an inherent value

I guess that answers most of my questions. Should I be using tech II meds over tech I heavies until I get tech II heavies?

heavy and medium drones where nerfed against small targets a while ago. bigger not always better now... depends on target
ony Guardian Vexor can have more than 5 drones, that was changed a LONG way back...
bandwith can make you able to fit 5 heavys but only launch 3-4
what is best depends on what you are using them for

IF you have solid support skills, I'd generally take 5 Hammerhead IIs over 5 Ogre Is. They'll kill the majority of ships more quickly. Ogres are slow enough already and Hammers theoretically hit smaller ships harder (and definitely lay waste to frigs much more quickly).
This is somewhat ship-dependent though. Drone-bonused ships are clearly better here than those without a drone bonus. Even then, only two of them (until the patch; Gila and Rattlesnake become drone boats then) can launch a full rack of heavies and if you're in either of those you'd better have several backup sets at your disposal and the ability to learn when to use them.
So for now: Hammerhead IIs > Ogre Is.
(Obligatory note: get Drone Interfacing to V as quickly as possible. You won't regret it.)

Tech 1 heavies still kill faster than tech 2 mediums, and I have near perfect drone skills on my gallente pilot. I used ogre 1's in missions before I got tech 2's for close range battleships (not many, but a domi can hold them)
Heavies also do fine against battlecruisers and cruisers too, again if close range, if you don't like a lot of micro.
