Yup..... probes work best when the sig [yellow dot] is at about halfway to the probes' current max-range setting. ie. halfway to the bubble limit. Looks like you have the probes as close as you possibly can to the sig - that's not gonna work. I'm saying that as the whole pic seems to be 'inside' the probe bubble. Might just be my bad interpretation of your graphics setting tho :) .

That's not true at all. Getting too close can be bad due to deviation...but as long as that's not an issue (which it's not going to be at .25 AU), closer = better.

what you are doing wrong is trying to probe a jaspet/kernite/omber site.

While all the previous lists are good here's another one...
Probe placement. You are inded as close as you can possible get, but your base triagle is not very well placed.
The probe1-site-probe2 angle should all be the same. Right now the probe are to much on the " left" of the site. Try to form a perfect triangle. Or just drop that and use the cloverleaf formation.

Do what CCP seem to be trying to stop people from doing with all this lowering of skills in exploration, specialize. Train to 4, get a rigged frigate, find everything, never have to worry about having signatures you just cant get for no good reason. Most people will read this thinking it's part of my post, when its actually my sig :P

place your scan probes in a flat square formation so the ranges overlap in the middle nicely and place your signal in the middle of the overlap.
If you cant narrow the signal down progressively, your skills/ship arent good enough

seems to me they changed the "learning curve" to make it easier to get into but harder to get to the top. i.e mid ragnge skills don't give you what they used to. i.e.e they moved the goalposts again and some people are swimming against the current to just keep up.
then again i may have just had sites that are harder to find latley.

Well I have no evidence of this but I find even the same types of site often vary in their difficulty. Only Grav sites are always tricky. The rest I get from anywhere between 2 AU to .25 AU no matter what I do. This leads me to believe there is a random sig radius (or scan strength) for each site when spawned.
And as many have pointed out, being able to scan earlier will just make it harder to do. You will still need decent mods, rigs and skills to scan effectively unless CCP stealth nerf the sites.
