With the removal of the doomsday device are fleets seeing an increase in non DD proof ships being fielded in large battles?
Are smaller frigates and cruisers going to gain a larger place in these battles?
I for one hope so. Thoughts and experiances? Dark Star Industries

100 man fleets of machariels with 800dps and 90km optimal + falloff.
All the joy of fighting sniper hacs. All the buffer of fighting rrbs. All the tracking of close range battleship turrets.

And the price of a carrier.

I for one will be happy to see cruisers and frigates re-enter large fleet battles. This means that one can experience the 'endgame' of EVE without being required to be a BS pilot. It will be interesting to see new tactics evolving over the coming months. |

Edited by: Sakar Vahn on 03/12/2009 11:06:59 Yea but now it's a deathray.
But anyways, yea! I think ewar ships will have a blace as jamming the **** out of battleships, then you need inties to counter, or destroyers, and to counter that you need cruisers... ect. ect.
Response to below: Hell if I know? I don't think they need to, that's not really their role... Are you arguing that if frigs can't effect caps they're useless? The ewar frigs, inties, and bombers can effect battleship support (and some caps in some cases) so there will be counters (see frigates/destroyer) which will need counters (cruiser) ect. ect. till we're back to BS and Cap ships. (the titan DD use to be the counter to every non BS)

Can swarm of assault frigs take down capital ships? There are brave ones. And then there are those whom the brave ones will follow. |

More will probably do glass cannons for LR BS. May see an increase in HAC-gangs, but they rarely got caught by AD-doomsdays anyway so who cares. Friggangs are still ******ed. |

Nothing changes. The only kind of gang that was caught by a Titan DD are BS gangs. ___________________

I was hoping to see more of these threads. It would appear to me that the removal of DD would radically alter the way fleet combat will take place. While I do not have a great deal of 0.0 combat under my belt, it did seem like everyone would bunch up in huge sniper BS fleets and shoot from range. Rather boring. Sure most of my PVP experience revolved around blowing up one POS after another all evening, perhaps with the changes to SOV and the removal of DD, we may see fleets of HAC's taking a front seat role in pvp. Perhaps *crosses fingers* SB fleets will be used to cap drain that sniping PVP fleet so the HAC's can finish them off. It appears as though the death of the AOE DD would change most of the tactics and strategy employed by the FC's.
Cheers!

Ok just my thoughts:
First of all the High EHP battleship isn't completely dead but it's certainly mostly dead. TBH it was already on the way out. High EHP remote repping still might work for some midsized fleets. I expect in general those low slots will be given to damage and range enhancers in the future.
The usefulness of a Dread on the battlefield just took a huge hit. A POS force field means that you need a sniper to be able to hit the tower. You can get right up and kiss the new sov structures with a short range BS. Dreads only have x2 (with long range weaponry) to x3 (with short) the dps of a close range BS. In reality that margin is even worse for the Dread, more pilots out there with V's in battleship related skills than in capital ship skills. Not sure Dreads are any better than getting everyone in close range BSes and pounding the thing. This of course massively changes everyones tactical reality.
