Found someones wallet on the floor in the dark tonight.
Had lots of cards in it including a drivers license it and nearly ú200 in cash.
There was a couple of phone numbers aswell.
Tried both the numbers, one was answerphone and one hadn't heard of the guy on the drivers license. I couldn't get a number through directory enquiries.
I'm stuck with a dilemma really.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I see three options and none look too great.
1. Do I go around to the address to own up to having the wallet of a complete stranger and risk putting myself in the firing line of what could be some paranoid nutjob?
2. Do I hand it in to the police and take the chance they probably lighten the wallet considerably before passing it back to the rightful owner while saying that's how it was given to them.
3. Do I mail it in the post and hope the drivers license address is accurate and up to date?

Write a letter first, possibly with some dispensable form of contact (Spare email address) listed so you can work things out at a distance?

1 - If they're local go round, if you're paranoid take someone with you.
2 - Can't imagine the police would have sticky fingers, surely you'd get some kind of receipt for the lost property, and tbh I'm not sure they'd take it round to the owner anyway, just leave it in lost property for them to claim, and if it's not claimed after a certain time you can claim it, and you have the same dilemma again.
3 - If you're gonna mail it, you'd be better off mailing a quick note to the person asking if they can identify the wallet first to make sure they still live there, then you could arrange to drop it off.
Personally I'd contact the police and ask if anyone has reported a missing wallet (might be stolen and the thief dropped it while running away)

Went round to the address with a friend as advised.
Was a tenant living there and the wallet owner was her landlord but she wouldn't give me his phone number, after arguing with her, gave up and went to nearby police station to hand it in.
Police was very good, all above board, police officer got all the items properly inventoried in front of me that was in the wallet and I was given a big receipt to sign.
Police officer then tried a phone number of someone with the same name and different address, turned out to be his brother, who told him and he came around to the police station within 5-10 min as he lived just around the corner.
Anyway it was a nice guy and he gave me a ú40 reward and several bottles of red and mulled wine out his car. \o/
The police and the guy himself were amazed at my honesty which doesn't say a lot for where I live.

Nice of you to be so honest, I'd have done the same but I'm a nice-guy anyway.
If you're into kama then good kama will be on it's way, if you're not (like me) then you can have self satisfied smugness that you did something good and got rewarded for it.

Google the name?
Go to the police station but make sure you make a list of everything in it before hand...tho i couldn't see why police would take money from a wallet brought to them

take the money out and hand it into the police station saying you found it in the street.
I really fail to see why a bit of light thievery isn't on your list as well.

You should do what any normal human would do take the cash and dump the wallet somewhere just throw it in a bin the night before they collect them

Well done sir. Glad to see honest people still exist. And you got a tidy reward as well! Sounds like a very merry Christmas all around this year. Nice! Fix the Wardec System! Upgrade the Probing System! |

Once I lost my wallet with $400 worth of cash (different currency) and all my freaking IDs. Driver's licence, car registration, passport, personal ID, credit cards, club card and some other stuff (photos, dunno).
A guy came over a day later and handed me the stuff. Without the money Well, it probably wasn't him who took it. But I didn't care. All the hassle of having those IDs reissued was spared. So I was happy.

Excellent conclusion 5pin.
I once left my debit card in the ATM. It so happend a kid I did not get along with back in grade school had been behind me at the ATM. I mean this kid hated me back then, but he got the card and dropped it off at my parents house. It just goes to show that people can change for the better and do the right thing.
