Scanning is so much fun! Why did I never try this!?
If you've never tried it out, do yourself a favor and go through the new exploration career agent. It's worth your time.

yeah seems fun at first coz its novel, but wait untill you do like 30 plexes over 3 months and get no good drops and maybe earn 150 mill total from them, then you realize how much a waste of time they are .. unless you get lucky and you rarely do.

Try exploring outside of high-sec. We probably cleared 150 mil total (including drops and salvage) from a single site last night.

I have been scanning since apoc and I admit it is fun.
Yet nowhere profitable or I'm extremely unlucky.
I scan 15-20 sigs a day usually until I got bored. %90 of those being Grav, Wormhole and Ladar sites. %10 are Mag, Radar and Plexes. Well I don't do Plex usually because lvl 4's are more profitable anyway and those high sec Radar and Mags are usually looted out. The sigs in the wh space are pain in the *** for me as I'm a drone user and sleepers tend to hug them not to mention getting radar and mag sites in wh space is rarer and more dangerous.
Also Gallente cov-ops looks like a deformed virus and I hate to look at it.
Yes scanning is fun but it has been only a time sink for me not a career. How ccp considers this as a "career" I don't really get.

Scanning is a "Post-mission running" career. The assumptions are that you have a bunch of Isk, a lot of stuff, and you are bored to madness with missions.
So you train the Covops alt, start to find stuff, realize that there's not of lot of Isk here, but continue to do it as a "time-sink" (as mentioned above).
As always, it is more lucrative in low-sec or null-sec, which requires a buddy or team system. There are no exploration-specific ships that give you good scanning bonuses and can actually run the sites. So being a solo explorer requires switching ships often and taking much more time, effort, and risk.
More a hobby than a career, I think.

Hello all,
To be honest i have been probing down eve about 8 months stright now and let me tell you guys, its been financing isk wise 4 accounts. Honestly i dont know what type of plexs u running, but i made billions selling **** in months. IMO salvage/ hacking and analyzing are yes time consuming, but after a few months it can yield billions. I used to run like 10 of this sites daily and when my wallet was in the dark, i made a jita trip in a covops and my wallet filled with billions. But i agree that i havent scored a billion isk item, just saved a couple of the crapy ones and put them on contracts and wait.

Exploration is an excellent team activity in null sec. Small groups can hit big sites quickly and make lots of isk while staying out of the asteroid belts and other frequent hunting grounds of roaming fleets.

Exploration has been my primary ISK earning activity for several years. You have to be willing to work low sec. The key is to be able to work all of the sites.
Mag and Radar hits will have the occasional moderately high payout. A plex that turns into an expedition will get you good bounty plus salvage, and faction mods. Even work the rogue drone sites for the mins and overseer effects. Ladar sites are fewer but some gas types payout very well. Grav sites have plenty of ISK. A good Gneiss or Crokite hidden belt and you will be swimming in Zydrine.
