Allright, I have a new friend to eve that I am doing my best to get up to speed quickly and diminish thier learnign curve.
They are wanting to go a different route than me and go for A minmitar combat pilot. Profession certs aside, what kind of 'skill pack' should I recomend to make them self sufficent as quickly as possible?
They are wanting to go Minmitar combat specialist (pvp with emphasis on recons/stealth bombers - So we allready know which skills he is gonna need for those).
But as for self sustainment, I figured he is best off aiming for side tooling for a mission runner/salvager to generate the income he will need to support his pvp stuff. I'm allready funding his implant and learning skill startup, so we will be setting down a base there.
My Ideas for revenue generation:
3 Basic Social Skills (Social/Negotiation/Connections, all to level 4), Salvaging to 3, Minmitar Battle Ship to 4, Projectile Turrents to 4, Destroyers level 1 (for salvaging), armor tanking Basic/standard.
Would rushing to this kind of level help him grind out the missions he needs (with my help in the level 1-3 category), so he can solo level 4's?
I don't know much about BS competencies as I took the time to get my Mrymidon to run Level iv's solo, so any advice would help. If there is a better way to quickly get him into self sufficency (isky wise) I would love to hear suggestions.

Minmatar is the hardest race to spec in from the start, but it does pay off when you later decide to crosstrain.
For a start, "Minmitar Battle Ship to 4, Projectile Turrents to 4" ... "armor tanking Basic/standard" is a bit off. Minmatar are the only race where armour/shield tanking preference changes with the hull, but the only one of the three Minnie battleships that really favours armour tank is the Typhoon, which after the latest patch looks far better as a cruise missile/torp boat. If you are going turret based, you'll want to get active shield tanking skills and either get a tempest (also needs missile skills, stupid split weapon systems lol) or a Maelstrom.
Because of the mixed weapon and tanking setups, minmatar battleships are even more skill intensive than other races battleships, I'd recommend sticking to battlecruisers until you have an above average skillset across the board.

So for my advice to my friend for running level IV's is to go Missile/Shield base and gun for BC's for revenue generation?

Given your friendĘs interest, I would suggest training to get into a Drake at first to make some isk. It is not a waste of time to train Caldari due to the fact that he will need Shield skills for many of the Minmatar ships. This will give a good income base. His or Her PVP can begin in the mighty Rifter. These hulls are a solid economical way to learn PVP. It should not take too long after training Caldari enough to earn the isk needed to buy a small fleet of Rifters.
Once your friend feels like they want to test the PVP waters, have them jump into a clean clone, and head off for trouble. Anyway.. ThatĘs what I would do if I had to start all over again. Other than that, you could shorten the learning curve by having your friend join a PVP corp. There is a huge difference between Trained Skill and Learned Skill. For this I would suggest having them start out in a FW corp, or begin their PVP training in EVE University.
Or the short version: Train Rifter, train Drake, make money, PVP, Die, learn, Buy more Rifters, have fun, repeat.

Quotin this and just adding, the ONLY cross training going on here is getting Caldari cruiser up to III. All the missile, shield and battlecruiser skills help Minmatar a lot.
Battlecruisers are a great value to pvp, and this way he can use drakes for missions AND pvp in addition to whatever Minmatar ships he trains. Ultimately further down the line plenty of people run missions in Maelstroms if he still relies on mission running for income at that time.

No need for crosstraining. A Hurricane works pretty well for 0.0 ratting and level 3 missions.

Tell him stealth bombers en recons are paper thin and will take a good while to train for. Plus their use is limited (SB). The use of Stealth bombers etc sounds romantic but in reality have very little practical use. Also, losing a SB or recon will set you back considerably isk wise. Better off in pvp ing in a t1 ship for a long while to get experience.
The Drake route is a good option. That will generate isk to finance the stealth hobby.
