As a main source of income I hunt NPC rats in the belts for their bounties and the modules they drop. It can be a good amount of ISK once you pile up the valuable modules and sell them, though I've often wondered if I would be better of doing the anomalies in the systems instead. The rats within anomalies seem to have a lower chance to drop modules and the bounties are some what lowered in them. Granted I've only done a couple of the easier anomalies but I believe this trend applies to all of them. All the same, I've heard of people being able to make good money from them. My question is, at what point are anomalies better than belt ratting. I'm sure there is a certain level of difficulty the anomaly needs to be before it is worth a whole lot. |

When I go to null to rat, I bring small ships (usually t1 cruiser). My strategy is to kill bs rats that spawn in the belts. If I see smaller rats, I don't kill them, I just jump to next belt.
The questions than to ask you is this: What is your strategy when ratting in null? Do you kill everything? Life is short and dinner time is chancy Eat desert first! |

I do kill everything, yes. I tend to make more money off of the modules/slavage then I do the bounties. Mostly because it is a -0.1 system. I've also heard that killing all the spawns raises the chance of getting a rare spawn. However inefficient it is to hope for rare spawns I do enjoy the "thrill" of finding one. |

Anomalies are a more fixed steady income and should normally be making you more money than belt ratting. They all have the chance for a faction spawn at the end (to my knowledge) and if you're running the right ones you can also get escalations from them (which if lucky leads to big ISK scores)
Belt ratting does seem to have a higher chance for faction spawns though and hauler spawns can be worth a lot of money if you're lucky.
Personally I like to belt rat more just because anomalies get so monotonous and like to break it up with belt ratting from time to time.
If you're really after ISK though you should be looking for the Complexes and running those. Most deadspace loot sells very well. "Don't count on others for help. In the end each of us is in this alone. The survivors are those who know how to look out for themselves." |

Run everything. Your luck with belt spawns is at the mercy of the RNG while anoms are a given. Back when I was in Angel space I had a crappy week one time and only caught a single Domination Throne in a belt the entire time. Needless to say anoms paid the bills that week. Sticking to just one activity in this game, when it has so much to offer, is a great way to burn yourself out.
On the flipside, remember that lots of npc kills in a system will attract roamers hoping to catch something shiny and unaware. Depending on how you feel about pvp, this can be a good or bad thing.

Hardcore mode: Kill rats and run anomalies while scanning for plexes (and presumably watching local/directional). |
