Hello all,
Hope you can help me out here. I've been playing EVE for about a year now with my main being a carebear/miner and now I'm working on a PvP alt. The problem is I just can't decide if it's worth it to remap my new alt. His current attributes are (I have no implants):
Int. - 12 Per. - 23 Char - 9 Will - 14 Mem. - 12
I was told to make a year skill plan in EVEmon and use it's optimzer to tell me how best to remap, but after putting 203 days worth of skills in EVEmon (I can't think of anything else to add) it says I should remap to:
Int. - 23 Per. - 17 Char - 9 Will - 9 Mem. - 12
Which will save me 21days if I remap. My question is: is it really worth it? Am I gimping myself some how by loading all my points in INT? I worry because there is always something new that I find I want to learn, making it hard for me to stick to a strict plan.
I've had people tell me they don't remap and just keep their char balanced (minus Char. of course) and others tell me it's a "must" to remap. With it being one year before I can remap again, it seems like if I mess up, it's a big mess up haha!
So, do most of you all remap? If you do, is there really a "best" way to do it?
Any advice would be appreciated.

My settings:
Charisma: 11 Intelligence: 20 Perception: 20 Memory: 15 Willpower: 15
Obviously, we have different learning skills, but you got the picture. These stats are without any implants. I think it's a relatively good all-rounder.
I would definitely not set my skills in an unbalanced manner. Unless you have some very strict plan. Which I don't happen to have.

there is no "best" way. only depends on what you are planning to train. most optimal is remapping for 1-year long training plans. if you have no discipline/patience for this, you could remap PER=INT 12/12 and rest 5. most skills have INT or PER as primary, so with 5/4 in learning and +4 implants, you would be training at solid 2244 SP/hour.
i remapped all characters and regretted only once. that character started as MEM 14/INT 9. it trained learning, basic fitting and drones. then i remapped for INT 14/MEM 9 and trained for science. after that i decided to use it for FW pvp, so it's stuck on training fitting, logistic and e-war (which is not all that bad, just a bit stiff), since i'm not willing to train ships and weapons at subpar speed (except for what i can't evade).
in retrospective, unless you have clear 1-year training plan, balanced remap is better choice.

Also, do implants, the cost is worth it

Edited by: MinerJimmy on 07/12/2009 13:57:20 I'd train up the advanced learning skills cos your attributes atm are ugly and get some implants, even if its just +2s its worth it.

Thanks for all the info guys! I'm gonna work on getting me some +3 implants at least and probably remap.
Wish me luck!

Jagga Spikes has some good points to be made. One-year cooldowns for remaps are a bit scary for me. (But, nonetheless, a very wise implementation by CCP as it forces remapping to be a decision not to be taken lightly.)
Balanced attributes with as much time as possible spent on learnings seem to work best in case I suddenly change my mind and I impulsively feel I want a new career path "on the fly".

Okay heres my awesome and awful Remapping trick.
Remapping (Active) I5 P15 C5 W9 M5 Guns = T2 ones and 5's and 4's in the supports Ships = T2 ones of 2 different races Missles = T2 Torpedoes Remapping (Active) I9 P5 C5 W5 M15 Logic V Eidetic Memory V Drone Skills = All to 5 or 4 depending... Except t2 Amarr and Caldari they can stay at 2 Industry = All the really useful ones
Dear god it hurts.

Confirming that learning 50.000.000 SP worth of Science Skills with 33 Intelligence and 26.4 Memory at 2772 SP/Hour is epic win
My other Character has everything balanced around int/per/will/mem, works good so far

For years I have trained with charisma being my highest attribute, just because so happened and i realized it too late to bother. You're spoiled now with the remap. Don't overdo it if you don't plan a lot ahead, just make it balanced with per/int high and mem/willp following not very far behind (especially mem).

Edited by: Nico Terces on 15/12/2009 16:10:02 Edit: I fail at reading attributes.
If you're training a lot of basic skills, I would go with the remap suggestion. Intelligence is useful for most fitting skills. Perception is very wanted for spaceship command and basic gunnery skills. It also helps you with drone skills, and Intelligence/Perception wants you to do a lot of your navigation skills! After about a year you should have most of the navigation, mechanic, science, drones, and engineering skills you want for pvp.
After you got the basic skills it's time to go for perception / willpower and blitz out those gunnery/missile and spaceshipcommand skills. You can still train droneskills and navigation after the remap without hurting your trainingspeed too bad with your maxed perception which is the secondary attribute for these catagories.
Basically, do what you want to do in eve, and do what you believe is best. Though, do sleep a few nights before remapping and don't do it while you're drunk.

20 Int 20 Perc is probably a bit safer and will still save you some training days. You really don't want low Perc for a PVP character. It almost always ends up useful, whether as a primary or secondary attribute.
tbh, your stats are quite low. train learning or get implants, probably.

Depends on what you are aiming to skill, in the long term. Which direction. Industry/science or combat? On combat I would use roughly the same value on every attribute, on industry you favor memory and intelligence.
My char is purely combat, so I had flatened attribute distribution from the start. The imho only valid reason to respec as a combat char, is when you are already quite high on SP and plan to heavily focus on one group of skills, like spaceship command, missiles and gunnery. For them, you only need perception and willpower, but to take the most out of it, you have to limit yourself to these skillgroups for a year.

On my main, which is almost 4 years old, I did a remap a year ago and put most of the points into perception/willpower, and distributed the rest evenly. I now have 31 perc 26 willpow, and have spend this year training gunnery/missiles/spaceship command.
All I have to say, this without a doubt the best thing I did with my training. Ever.

Lol
I just did a remap to lower my training time on gunnery, missile and spaceship command. And as things always works out with me, I put all my points in intelligence and willpower, instead of perception and willpower as I was supposed to:(
Now I have one whole year to regret this..

I'm training all support skills atm, drones/electronics/engineering. 24-03-2010 I'll get my next remap, and start on gunnery/spaceship command again.
But I'm already at 85mil SP so I can do full focus on 2 attributes for a whole year without much problems. When you're just starting a char and you intend to use it, I would suggest agaisnt min/maxing that badly. Although INT/PERC combo is pretty flexible ( t2 ship skills and drone skills will be hurting though )

Hi, I don't know if this has been suggested before but I find it quite useful -
Before you remap, load EveMon with your term/annual skill plan.
Then sort under the attribute time gain/loss field on the sheet and sort for the skills that will gain time to be on the top.
You can then choose to train the skills that you want and that will train faster with your current attributes before remapping.
The remaining skills can then be trained with a remap to optimum attributes without leaving you some messy core skills that would otherwise gain time from the remap.
I hope this helps.
This saves some time before you remap and optimises for the remaining skills you focus on.
