I have decent skills in both, up to Raven Caldari and Soon Myrm in Gallente.
However, I want to pick one for my general use in pvp and otherwise, and can't decide. I like drones, like shields, think missiles are cool, but hybrid guns are also fine.

As there's no one answer or solution it all depends on what kind of pvp you do but on average Caldari will have more issues than Gallente.

Pick gallente! So i dont have to see you on these forums asking about if every caldari ship is good or not! Fly gallente because its easier! Not to mention you have great ships in almost every class.

I watched the Alliance Tournament 7 qualifiers recently. All of them.
I was surprised that despite people always complaining on the forums about Caldari ships, missiles, and shield tanks, the vast majority of the tournament ships were Caldari.

I'm sorry, did you just say something is easier than Caldari? Shield buffer tanks don't slow your ship down like armor, missiles don't need to worry about range or capacitor, capless passive tanks, ECM is the best ewar bar none, Raven is lolspam PvE easy mode, and the Drake is obscenely strong for a BC.
Yeah Gallente is totally easier to play.

Tourney PVP != TQ PVP
The alliance tournament is a pitched battle with against more or less equal odds which does NOT reflect the randomness of tranquility pvp. Especially considering you don't really have to worry about tackle with the tournament which drastically changes setups and viability.
As a primarily Caldari pilot there are some flaws to be aware of but both races have excellent ships for different roles. If you're going to be pvping with other people (which is far more fun) race is irrelevant as they all have great ships.
Frigs - Gallente/Minnie Destroyers - Minnie (by a huger margin) Cruiser - Minnie/Gallente (blackbird awesome)' Battlecruisers - All pretty much even I'd say. Especially with tier 2 Battleships - All races have nice ships for different uses/play styles
Assault Frigs - Minnie/Gallente Heavy Assault Ships - Each race have good ships with difference roles Recons - Likewise. Although I lean more towards the curse/falcon.
I'm tired and drunk so I'll stop there. But anyway follow whatever interests you the most. All races are sexy.

Yeah Gallente is totally easier to play.
As someone who flies all races reasonably well, I'd just like to point out a couple things:
1)Most shield tanked ships are more brick-ish than their armor counterparts before fittings come into play. So while armor plates may slow down a ship, the ones fitting them usually end up going about the same speed as their shield tanked counterparts (matari being the exception but we're not talking about them here)
2)If you think it's easy to run missions in a raven, you've obviously never flown an afk domi. Warp in, aggro whole room, launch drones. The domi is so easy to fly it does the rest for you.
3)Drones also don't worry about range and capacitor, for that matter they don't even need high slots.
4)Drake is pretty awesome for a battlecruiser, key words being for a battlecruiser Every race has a ship class it excels at, and when you consider how bad the caldari CSs are, and how bad their cap ships are, and how bad their HACs are, having a good BC doesn't really help them enough to warrant training them right now. At least in my oppinion.
5)Being the ONLY race that focuses solely on shields means in RR fleets you get screwed, not even counting that RR shield mods are a pain to fit compared to their armor counterparts.
6)Yes, flying gallente IS easier |

It's not surprising at all really, without the need to fit a point shield tanks become incredibly powerful. The problem with shield tanks isn't a lack in strength but rather the difficulty of fitting tackle (mwd/point/web) along with them.

Intresting you must be the only single race spec'ed PYTHON! We should fly together somtime in a cal only fleet or somthing. Go around **** pilots and then type in local about how garbage cal ships are \0/ I have recently given up on caldari gunships. When i choose to fly both minmatar and caldari. My original thinking was just to fly minmatar gunboats and caldari missile boats but got distracted by how good caldari gun ships are! God i hate blasters! so garbage! and thats jsut a personal opinion cause i have destroyed alot o ships with blaster. Its complicated = /

Don't let him trick you, he flies Amarr now too. The first time I ever saw Lars flying a ship that wasn't a Drake I almost shat my pants in disbelief. -----

Assuming you want to PVP, I'd recommend Gallente. Their blasterboats fit MWDs and tackle much easier than the Caldari hybrid platforms and drone boats are generally much more flexible than missile ships.
They both have their positive aspects but generally armor tanking and turret weapons are preferred in large groups with RR setups while tackle is needed in smaller groups. Sadly, Caldari don't excel in either so they mostly end up being used for the Scorpion and Blackbird, which are completely game-changing in the hands of the right pilot.
For PVE, the Rattlesnake and Golem are amazing while the CNR is also quite good. The Domi can match the Raven/CNR well but the Kronos is nowhere near Rattlesnake or Golem level at PVE.
Edit: I'm not sure about the new Rattlesnake but it looks as good as it's predecessor. ** Disclaimer: Author sometimes spell checks but is not responsible for sins of commission, omission, emission, transmission, or submission. Flowers, bricks, or any other form of feedback appreciated |
