Originally by: Deamos Just took a quick look at your program. It seems rather useful! My only recommendation to see would be to incorporate retrieving market info from the Eve Cache. Libevecache is a great for doing so.
Thanks again for the great tool. Keep up the good work.
Thanks! Yes, I know about Libevecache, and going to use it among with eve-central import. It is just a start of the project. I have a lot of good ideas, and need time to implemet it. You can found a list of planned features here.

I don't know real reason for this problem. I had such accident few month ago. Was fixed by the time :(
In your case: 1. Check whether you entered valid FULL api key. 2. Check with other software. For instance - EVE Trader. 3. Check your API key at this page. 4. Contact EVE Online support.

Originally by: Rabid cat Good job so far! It seems this is still at early stage but its already promising. The user interface actually is usable (many other eve market software fails in this aspect).
Also the planned feature list contains somewhat all features I have dreamed of. I would pay hundreds of billions of isk for this thing (or even hundreds of billions real money if it was allowed)!
Thanks for good words! Functionality and usability - are the basic principles in software for me. So I'm trying to follow them in my work.
Of planned functionality... If you wish to speed up specific feature development, please send feature request via email.

Yup. I don't have any specific feature reqest yet at this time. But what I would really like to see is the graph style tracking of profit per item/item group. Also it would be neat if it didn't only show the average buy/sell price. But also perhaps something like your personal doncian channel and your personal min and max buy/sell prices. It would allow to track price and margin fluctuations.
I've planned to implement graphical representation of statistics. Will try to implement features you wish.
Originally by: Rabid cat Also is it possible to fetch price history data from cache files?
This is also planned.
Originally by: Rabid cat Also there could be some warning indicator that alerts you if some specific order havent sold/bought anything for a while. So it would basically tell you its time to to update your order.
What about "trade speed" field for player orders?
Originally by: Rabid cat Some filter for items that you have been clearly bought for own use, like a new ship?
Do you want to ignore some transactions? Such feature already was planned.
Originally by: Rabid cat Maybe some alert if someone has crashed the market for specific item if its possible to implement?
I think planned feature "Dumping detector" will help you.
Originally by: Rabid cat Yup and its always a good idea to give encouraging words for a developer that has managed to create some good stuffs. It is always possible that if everyone is like 'meh' it would disencourage the dev and he/she would discontinue the project. I hope you will have patience/motivation to keep developing this project!
I will try to be patient, and anybody welcome to make "in game motivation" for me ;)
Originally by: Rabid cat BTW. For some reason the eve mentat stopped working on my computer (xp). I successfully ran it one time but now it won't display the program window anymore. It seems to load fine and it displays the tab in taskbar. Remove/reinstall didn't help.
At the first, try to right-click Mentat on the taskbar and use "Restore", "Maximize" or "Move" commands. Play with combinations. Or try to delete EVE Mentat configuration file placed in "EVE Mentat" folder in My Documents.
Can tou explain exact steps to reproduce this bug? It would be good help for me.

Just one thing I can't get to work: the Orders. I get the error (via API): "Object reference not set to an instance of an object".
An import/export feature using information from excell would be nice (with the same data as the API), as I would love to be able to enter my previous transactions that are not kept by the api anymore.
Sometimes this error happens for some orders but I've not caught a bug, because cannot reproduce it :( Please send me your orders exported via file. I'll examine it for buggy item types or locations.
Of export\import: I've already planned such features.

Already planned.
Originally by: Kanatta Jing It might be nice to have a base line of value of some sort, even an EVE average.
What do you mean under base line term? Is it price? If price, it is possible to display base price stored in eve database, but this price is bad in most cases.
Originally by: Kanatta Jing Also the ability to retain any information between activations could be handy as well.
Currently Mentat stores only transactions between updates. ----------------------------------------- EVE Mentat - true trade tool. |

Originally by: Jieirn Devau A little wish about prices, every program seems to have prices averaged for all of eve or just for one region. Just once it would be nice to have it sorted by the empires. Want to know the mineral average in Amarr space, no problem. Its easy enough to seperate the data coming from eve-central or metrics, I do it on my spreadsheet. My problem with my spreadsheet is I don't know how to program all the wonderful things I want (no, need) it to do.
Currently EVE Mentat can display minimal, median and maximal prices over regions. Use "Stack by" button in the market browser. Note: you should import data from different regions first. Eve-central data import was planned.
Originally by: Jieirn Devau
That little wish would go a long way. So would something that helps plan a corp's business activities, keep track of all members limited api data, figure out cost and sell prices for everyone in corp.
but maybe I wish for too much.
Corporate order support will be available soon. But EVE Mentat will not support group character management (or by corp), just by separated chars. ----------------------------------------- EVE Mentat - true trade tool. |

Reinstalling doesn't help, I can see the screen in the preview plane by hovering my cursor over it, but it won't expand. Any ideas?
The simplest way is to delete configuration file %MyDocuments%\EVE Mentat\EVEMentat.config. But if you wish to keep you data you should edit this file and delete next content:

Originally by: Baljos Arnjak Personally, I think an export option would be very, very helpful. What I really want is a program that can give me only the minimum sell, maximum buy, and maybe an average regional volume that I can plug into my spreadsheet to do a full analysis of the region. BUT the nice thing is that the interface is so good that I might not even need it anymore. I only played around with it for a few minutes so far, but it's looking like this is going to become an indispensable tool for me

Originally by: Sara Zaristos It looks good, but to ensure the security of my system, I'd like to know some things. What license does it have? When installing it states it is protected under copyright law etc..., but there is no license agreement. Also, are sources available, or is there a thrustworthy third-party available (CCP?) that ensures that it does not tamper with my system or steal login details?
EVE Mentat is a kind of proprietary software. There is no license text (sorry, but I had no time to write it), but it will be written soon. In a few words: proprietary; with no sources opened; all rights belong to author; this software is free to use.
I guarantee security of this application. It doesn't use any malicious technologies. Nevertheless, you can use third-party online malware checkers to test it. For instance, http://www.virustotal.com/.

EVE API limits transaction history. But EVE Mentat will store all your transactions beginning from the first import.

EVE API caches data for 1 hour but you are free to use manual export/import to update data in a minute.

I guess I should have only exported MY orders since the programm realizes what is corporation and what my own.

- Self Cost is a valuable and tricky thing. My corporation produces all the stuff and sells it on the market, though we have no miners, which means we buy all the minerals. Again, this means that our self cost prices change all the time, and since we are a clever bunch of guys, we arrange for a nice excel sheet where our item prices are always kept up to date. Would it be possible to link Mentat to this excel sheet, maybe in the very same way that you would link several excel sheets together? That would be super awesome.
I will implement data export\import in CSV format. I think this will help you.

Also the option of automatically updating the cache at chosen fixed times.
Could you describe your use case in details? This will help me to determine feature usefulness. ----------------------------------------- EVE Mentat - true trade tool. |

Originally by: Jackomel Edited by: Jackomel on 11/07/2010 11:58:05 well, I use 2 clients and I frequently check various market items with both but since the program reads the cache from only one client at the time I'm forced to view all the trading related items on a single client every time.
And since I'm browsing lots of stuff, it would be nice if the program could import them automatically at fixed intervals.
There is no problems when using two instances of EVE client launched from the same location - both client's cache will be read.
Using EVE instances from different folders is no casual use case, so feature added to plan with low priority.
Autoload cannot be made at this moment. Use Ctrl+I shortcut for quick market import. ----------------------------------------- EVE Mentat - true trade tool. |

Сould you explain your idea in details? Should it be a graph or some kind of filter for table data for journal/transactions? Or just folders in favorites tab in market browser? (such feature already planned).
Originally by: Manivald Kostaja
Also when shall we expect to have automatic own prices?
Do you mean an automatic price correction in game client? (violates EULA, will not be implemented) Or do you mean an automatic self costs for items? (yes, planned)

Originally by: Manivald Kostaja I would prefer more tabs instead just of folders in favourites tab. Also it should be so that one item can be member of many tabs.
Tab names should be also configrable ofc.
So for example there would be one tab for items that are most profitable. And one tab for items I sell in my favourite location. and so on.
I think this would be better solution than folders in favourites tab.
I mean automatic self costs ofc. My post was a bit confusing but I blame alchohol... hehe
How do you plan implementing that self cost? Mean of all buy transactions for each item? or perhaps selectable like calculating it from last 25/50/100/10m units bought or from transactions during last 5/10/354354 days etc.
Also the difference in between current (short time) and all time (months/year/forever) self cost.
Well any idea how 'soon' can we expect to have that favourite tab thing and with what of features/stuff are you currently working?
edit: isk sent
I'm going to implement folders instead of tabs because it should be like in game. It will allow to do the same lists for quick market export in EVE and Mentat.
But your idea about "statistical favorites" is interesting. I'll think about.
Self costs will be very flexible: fixed, based on sell/buy orders within specified time interval, based on market data at specific location, etc. But I cannot give to you any implementation time estimations :(
And thanks for donation! ----------------------------------------- EVE Mentat - true trade tool. |

There are no security issues found since the first EVE Mentat version was released. Not recorded any complaints in this field.
Also you are free to use 3rd party security web sites to check this software (VirusTotal.com for instance). Also anybody can use advanced firewalls and anti-malware software to check application's outgoing internet traffic.
This program doesn't collect or share your private (EVE related or not) information. As a developer I'm not interested in Mentat's unsafety.
Also you can find few popular tools for EVE with no sources available. EFT, for instance.
EVE cache reader (and EVE Mentat in general) doesn't violates EULA as mentioned by Dragonaire.
Originally by: Dragonaire If it's just reading the cache and not modifying it CCP has said already that that is ok and there's no EULA problems. I would like to see this made open source as well. I'd also like all Eve 3rd party software developers to remember that Eve does run on OSes other than Windows like OSX and Linux and cutting yourself off from 10% of the player base or more IMHO is just a bad idea.
You are right about other OSes, but currently I have about 80 opened task and there is no time to support cross-platform application. I'm targeted to functionality. ----------------------------------------- EVE Mentat - true trade tool. |

Originally by: John'eh Funny thing is with panda, it actually gives me a warning unless I update to the most recent version.. so I have to wonder if it was a false posative, or a new false negative. Either way the fact that an AV goes "wait, what?" is sort of creepy.
Heh, every time you update EVE Mentat - its binary changes, so AV always should ask you something like "this program starting internet connection. Allow?". It is normal AV workflow, just read your AV messages carefully, and make proper decisions.
Originally by: John'eh This is your claim, but it has not been proven yet. I want to do an audit, because I did find some suspicious actions on the part of your application by third party security tools and I want to investigate further.
Can you point me this part and the name of issue to see what's wrong?
Originally by: John'eh And I don't use these tools for exactly that reason, especially since tools like EveHQ provide sources and do the exact same thing.
I hope you already inspect source codes of your OS for safety reasons.

Originally by: Amida Ta Well on the other hand I do see reasons why not to trust it. Your application is heavily obfuscated. Usually you only obfuscate applications if you want to hide something. That MAY be a valid thing if you are holding really important trade secrets or stuff like that. However your application obviously doesn't. Even commercial application vendors (like Microsoft or funnily any of the libraries you used) choose to NOT obfuscate their applications. So why would you? Especially as your application DOES make internet connections to servers other than the CCP servers!
It's obfuscated to add more pain to those people who use EVE Mentat as part of trade bots. It is impossible to decompile and integrate bot-related routines with obfuscation.
EVE Mentat does two types of internet requests: 1) EVE API requests 2) Latest version checks to evementat.com
In the second case it uses simple and non-encrypted http get request. You can sniff those packets easily and see that there are no unusual information transferred.
Also I've planned to turn version checks optional soon (via program options). ----------------------------------------- EVE Mentat - true trade tool. |

Originally by: Amida Ta Well it's not "impossible" it's just that the result from decompiling is a little bit harder to understand (but just to understand, NOT to use there it's as simple as if it wasn't obfuscated).
Of course it's your decision. But I don't think that you get much from this obfuscation. If your application really contained that intersting algorithms for trade bots then obfuscation will not help and if it just does what everybody else does for calculating this stuff then it's imho not worth it.
The ideal protection doesn't exist, it's fact.
Originally by: Amida Ta BTW: You could also choose to just not obfuscate the network-related stuff/classes/methods. That sureley wouldn't interfere with your "prevent tradebot" thing.

I wont dispute that. And Ta' is right, I have in the past used the wrong methods to ask for source. My bad, my apologies.
But here I am getting "oh sh*t" warnings created by a third party anti virus from an application that heavily obfuscates its code, connects to sites other than sites owned by CCP, will at times encrypt its traffic so it network traffic cant be sniffed, and has no source code available. What the heck am I supposed to think?
I very much doubt your competence in the internet security field, because you are not able to analyze so called "oh **** warnings" generated by your antivirus and in general provide us normal technical description of the problem. Just empty, generalized words and unreasonable demands.
If you are profi in a security, you should know how to check application's leaks and how to prevent connecting to sites other than you allow. And these tasks can be done without sources.
It's better to apply your skills to make a real and independent security check with a detailed technical report. ----------------------------------------- EVE Mentat - true trade tool. |

Not that its particularly hard to sort the market order list by price, then look with my own two eyes and see if any of the undercutting prices in my same station and/or system. I'm just not sure if this is a (minor) feature request/whining about colors, or if I'm just not looking in the right place for the options menu.
Hmm, Market tab has possibility to select multiple locations (use Ctrl+Click on stations, systems, regions) and advanced filter.
Market tab under character orders shows only market with concurent orders for selected character orders (for the range specified in the options). And I don't plan to implement filtering here.
By the way you can right click on character orders and press "view market details" to swith to market of this position. ----------------------------------------- EVE Mentat - true trade tool. |

Along the same lines, is there a variable/"wild card" character for the filter? (ie, filter by 2/*/2011 to see orders from February)

As I currently imagine such a feature, you would use the IGB to interface with EVE Mentat (simlar to how EVEMon does) and click a button that would scan through the market only for the buy/sell orders that the character has active. (Did I explain that well?)
Yes, quite well.

Is there any way that these checks can be automated?
I'm not sure if is really useful... Just press F5 and EVE Mentat update expired data.

Well, now that the API provides more than 1000 transactions at a time, it's not as important. But considering I'm not at my desktop 24/7, and I go through several thousand transactions a day (sometimes more than 1000 an hour) the API limit was causing the results to lag behind my actual wallet totals.
I still think auto-update would be useful, even if it's less necessary than before.
Actually, EVE Mentat can download up to few weeks of data using subsequent API calls (under single update operation). The same is for the journal. Let me know if this feature doesn't work. ----------------------------------------- EVE Mentat - true trade tool |

Those who miss order history feature can test new pre-release build with workaround - EVE Mentat 1.1.20.654. It's temporary and not ideal solution but it's better than nothing.
Also multiple client support added to market cache reader in this release.
Note, this release is not tested yet, so use it at your own risk. Also please let me know via e-mail about any issues with this test build. |

Thank you for report!
I suspect cache import tool erases previously extracted market files, so you able to import market only from the last client.

Originally by: sinamrali Edited by: sinamrali on 20/07/2011 15:57:02 Hi quick question: Is it possible to export journal transactions to Excel, or even copy/paste them out?
No, it's upcoming feature.
Originally by: sinamrali Edited by: sinamrali on 20/07/2011 15:57:02 Additionally, how far can EVE Mentat retrieve journal transactions from? I'm trying to import them from the EVE website but it's only giving me one day's worth and it's from 3 days ago!
Few weeks of journal and transactions. But it's also limited by number of records. So if you are active trader and have a lot of transactions per day, then it's not possible to load more records for you.
Originally by: Commander Disarray Ok, in the market thread, I was told to somehow find all of my items' sell price, deduct their buy price, tax, and brokers fee to obtain net profit.
I was looking at Mentat, and I noticed that for a given period of time I had 51.5 billion in sells, 50 billion in buys, for a gross profit of 1.5 billion. I used filter in the Transactions tab to get these figures.
Then I went over to the Journal tab and filtered out for Brokers fees (about 335 million) and also Taxes (another 350 million or so). Added those two up and deducted from gross to get a net of around 800 million.
Does that sound like a reasonable method to calculate net profit for trade activities? I just can't seem to figure out how to calculate each items buy/sell/tax/fees though...
It's rather workaround for profit calculation. I'm going to implement general and per item profit calculation soon. ----------------------------------------- EVE Mentat - true trade tool |

Originally by: Alaothiel I am really enjoying the program so far. The only things that are missing are the following:
1) Check value of items in hanger (either through buy transactions or current market value)
2) Profit per item a) profit each time a unit of that item is bought then sold b) profit from that item per day/week/month
Planned.
Originally by: Alaothiel
Also, the total ISK in escrow (with margin trading) doesn't match the amount calculated by eve. I think your program just takes 23.5% (assuming margin trading V) of the total in buy orders. However, once orders get partially filled, your actual amount of ISK in escrow can go down to something like 10+%. I think this has to do with how the player with margin trading V is charged as orders are gradually filled.
EVE Mentat calculates influence of margin trading skill correctly, but applies the same level of skill to all buy orders. So there can be the difference when you training marging trading skill and different parts of orders were set up with different skill level. ----------------------------------------- EVE Mentat - true trade tool |

Takes the value of your orders, wallet', contracts AND a guestimated value on the rest of your assets like ships, implants, modules etc.
The hardest part would be to make a decent guestimate for stuff like faction modules, researched BPO/BPC's and stuff like that I guess.
Nice idea in general, but requires implementation of asset manager in EVE Mentat. Added into database. ----------------------------------------- EVE Mentat - true trade tool |

Now I have a problem. Hypothetical scenario. I have a buy order in Ziona, range station, to buy Small Armor Repairer I. The tool shows me as the highest bidder, however, someone in Amarr had a higher bid with 5 system range. If i set the preference to region, all my orders turn red, but if i set it to system or station, it does not let me know that my order is infact outbid.
What can i do?
For now EVE Mentat cannot calculate distances between solar systems and therefore unable to calculate correct status for buy orders.
I hope it will be implemented in the next version of tool. ----------------------------------------- EVE Mentat - true trade tool |

I've just tested cache importer and have found that cache importer doesn't work when you specify path to EVE Online client. But it works fine when you specify direct path to cache folder. So use this as a workaround.
Also seems like there are some issues with the order history (yes, CCP has returned awaited "Fulfilled" status!) caused by my latest status algo. But this is not critical and will be fixed soon. ----------------------------------------- EVE Mentat - true trade tool |
