I changed my computer name from eskild-xp to eskild. and now I can open the game as many times I want to without deleting those folders.
Though I still get the bsod when I try to set the graphics lower :(

Win Vista 32bit Dutch
prefs.ini deleted worked once, after every reboot or restart of a eve client, no boot so I had to delete prefs.ini again.
Checked my prefs.ini again, and noticed I have « in my computer name. Changed it or R and now it works again.
I gave all these letters a test in my computername in the prefs.ini file:
n S d ÷ n «
Confirmed that those letters in the prefs.ini file, will stop eve from starting up!

My computer was called STASJON¦R-PC
"clusterName=STASJON¦R-PC@STASJON¦R-PC"
Changed the computer name to STASJONeR-PC and set it to clusterName=STASJONeR-PC@STASJONeR-PC
Only english alphabet letters in your computer name.

Edited by: Lineath on 11/12/2009 12:11:43 Got a solution:
Uninstall all, including, cache and setting options tick in the unistaller.
Then download the offline installer, install it.i used a diferent directory than default.
Run eve. Go to the new internet browser, click options, and specify new cache folder, try someting simple i put these:
C:\eve\browser
clear cache, save.
exit eve, test if you can re-enter, reeboot if you whish and test.
it worked for me no more problems.

Earlier someone said you shouldn't have to be a computer technician to play this game.
My question is, Should you?
Is this amount of neglect typical for how Eve Online deals with client issues?
After buying a subscription, I have been extremely frustrated and disappointed by how the company has dealt with this problem (The game disappearing after dominion appears etc).
Can some people please advise if this is a typical level of care they put to communication and fixing of problems?
Thank You,

Unfortunately yes. Their track record is not to hot with small scale glitches as they:
1. Figure it's your computer and not the game.
2. They trully can care less if 100 accounts are canceled.
If they cared they would stickie a dev topic and give updates on possible fixes for us to refer too instead of us all chatting with each other trying to figure out the problem. That or even worse force us to go through the atrocious petition system. Larsonist > i still enjoyed the pew pew though, all the pos sh!t ive been doing lately had me feeling like smeagle without his precious. |

Yea, all those are unicode or extended ASCII characters without basic ASCII equivalents. I ran some tests and pretty much determined that if they are anywhere in the prefs.ini file your client won't launch.
That seems to be the problem for most people in this tread (but not all). I'm really curious what the problem is in the code. When I first saw it I figured they had just made a poor choice of built in python string handling functions when parsing the file (most of those have version that only support ascii and versions that support unicode) but considering how long this is taking I doubt that to be the problem.
