After many years of caldari spec I tried amarr (up to medium ships) and started minmatar (small ships).
In Dominin minmatar get a really nice boost. My question is: What would you do if you were on my place? Im caldari spec which means max missile and shield skills. Im training my gunnery support skills up to 5 and have quite good (all t2 ofc) armor related skills.
I tried harbinger and is seems very cool dont know how it goes with cane. I hope you can give me some good advices Play Hard. Go Pro. |

Minmatar are better after the improvements but they still only really excel at the smaller ships more than their BS line. Up through T1 cruiser, Minmatar slaughter Amarr. T2 cruiser and T1 BC, they're pretty balanced. The CS and BS lines, however, lean in Amarr's favor.
They also each play better within certain roles. Minmatar tend to excel more at solo and small group work while Amarr are real fleet *****s.
PS: That's an impressive set of support skills. ** Disclaimer: Author sometimes spell checks but is not responsible for sins of commission, omission, emission, transmission, or submission. Flowers, bricks, or any other form of feedback appreciated |

Edited by: DuffmanPeter on 10/12/2009 03:02:12 Having the same dilemma for pvp, minmatar bs 5 I cannot see a reason for except the typhoon, which does not seem worth it. This is because it will only use 1 weapon system well. The other system does benefit but still 5 vs 3.
As for the tempest and mael, I looked at a couple setups and the tempest looks meh while the mael has a good tank but really has no room for point and web without hindering the tank. If anyone can enlighten me to solid setups for minmatar bses besides the phoon im open but as for now I would say go for amarr bs5 as I am leaning. Imply or Implode?
There are many Duffman, don't tell the children... It's disillusioning!

Amarr have the best battleships in the game.
Even with the new improved artillery, minmatar battleship is a waste of skill training unless you plan to get a Machariel

Not exactly a waste of skill training:
[Maelstrom, PvP] Gyrostabilizer II Gyrostabilizer II Gyrostabilizer II Tracking Enhancer II Damage Control II

With my (not all that impressive BS) skills: -890 DPS (1000+ overheated) -Tanks 597 DPS (755 with overheated booster, 826 w/ o/h booster and invul) -runs for over 3 minutes w/o MWD -effective range out to approx 30km with good tracking
Not ideal for large fleets (not a great buffer), but a well flown Maelstrom can take out quite a few enemies in a small gang or one on one - hard to beat it's combo of gank and active tank.
And if you already have great shield skills as you said you did, your tank will be better than mine, and obviously fitting T2 large guns will help your DPS a fair bit (and give you the flexibility of using Barrage ammo).
Good missile and armor skills will lead you to flying the Typhoon however.

The way I see it,
Amarr still rule supreme when it comes to PvP battleships.
The Dominix has always been a strong option to these ships however, now with the Dominion changes the Typhoon is just as viable. This would be sniping aside, ofcourse. The problem with the Typhoon is that you need a heavy investment of SP in the missile department.
The Tempest and Maelstrom are a little bit better off now, enough so for me to stick with the Minmatar's line of battleships rather than Gallente or Caldari.
As I've come to understand it (I don't meddle in fleet warfare), whilst Minmatar are a little better off they're still at the bottom of the list. In practice however Caldari pilots will likely find themselves there, often lacking sufficient SP in gunnery and/or being the odd shieldtankers on the field.
So to sum it up I think,
1. Amarr
2. Minmatar (previously Gallente)
3. Gallente (still 2nd best for the fleet warfare inclined)
4. Caldari
