Out of these magical people how many are running multiple clients? Can we get those numbers? 25,000?

I was 3 of them. A corpmate was at least 3 if not 4. It's probably closer to 30-35k. I know a lot of people that don't have alts or still just use one at a time, so it may not be as low as you think. ---------------- A million faces, each a million lies |

Edited by: Swiftgaze on 09/12/2009 21:23:19 Whats more remarkable is the proportion between the online record pre-apocrypha and right-post-apocrypha and pre-dominion and right-post-dominion.
Major update, hardly any more users than right after apocrypha.

Edited by: Destination SkillQueue on 09/12/2009 21:27:00 Don't know, but it doesn't matter as far as the record is concerned. It has always been measured in the same way and alts still eat up resources.
EDIT: I wasn't logged on during this record :(

No one knows. I doubt CCP's figures of around 16% of accounts are alt-accounts is even accurate. Because many of those use separate e-mails, fake names, and are completely paid with PlEX they wouldn't know. CCP doesn't actually verify who actually owns an account with a physical address. The best method they have is a CC number, but we wouldn't know how many accounts even use a CC.

I was logged into EVE with 1/20.000-th of an account, which I registered using a public twitter feed, so that means that you'll have to add 60.000 users to that PTU.
True story with plausible and verified math, trust me.

players hard-core enough to post on official forums will naturally be inclined to overestimate the commonness of running multiple accounts.

hmm, i think CCP should make a difference between clients and users.
And its not hard tbh. Same IP -> same user.
I think its less users that have a family playing eve than users that simply use alts at the same time..

QFT
the average joe logs in a single account and plays 1hour a week...
I wonder how many of them were trial accounts. Never wondered why all the records are some days after a new expansion???

Actually moste people only have 1 account, while this evens out with some people having 4-5 accounts the "alt"-"main" ratio often isn't that bad.
Once upon a time i knew all the players and who was who's alt in the corp. And with 25 people online a normal day you might se 5-6 "alt" accounts. Of course there might have been a few trade/missions running alts i didn't know about but i find it hard to belive that at any given moment more then a 1/3 of the accounts online would be someones "alts"

This tbh. It's like what? 10% of players posting on the forums? I mean I've seen that least half of the people posting in this thread before, so it's a really small forum community. You can't just extrapolate from that.
I'd like to see some 'offical' numbers about that one day... -

So residential gateways, uni networks, cohab routers, hell, entire countries hiding behind the same IP won't make any difference…

Right.
Ah you're a smartass. :) Okay. I'll play along.
What do you think how many households have more than 1 player online at a time? Thats the percent or two that I mentioned, including the uni networks.

Enough that it would make the measurement pointless. Not even the RIAA try to claim that IPs map to individuals any more… ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

The RIAA watches music downloads, whats the ratio of people who download music to people who play Eve, you smartass? ;)

Irrelevant is what the ratio is – the point is that they have a genuine monetary interest in making people believe that IP = person, and even they don't.

Your argument was entirely irrelevant and off, tbh. You were comparing apples to pears and to be honest I overestimated you on purpose when I even asked you for an explanation.

Show me those that matter in the statistic by more than 0.000000001% that use 1 IP for the entire country. :)
